Rural Farming: My Buildings Can Be Upgraded
Chapter 221 - 217: The Flex King Reappears
Chapter 221: Chapter 217: The Flex King Reappears
Coming back from outside, Lin Feng saw his sister, who had been running wild all day, being wrangled by their mom.
"You have school tomorrow. Go and get your things ready."
"Ugh, school is exhausting. I don’t even want to go anymore."
"Sounds like you’re looking for a spanking!"
Lin Feng looked at her and said, "You guys have it easy. They’ve reduced your workload in all sorts of ways, and you don’t even have cram school anymore."
"Back in my day, not only did our evening self-study sessions last until nine-thirty, but we only got half a day off per week. Even for New Year’s Day, we only got half a day."
On top of cram school and evening study sessions, I’d get home and have to study until one or two in the morning, then wake up just after five.
You could say my senior year of high school was even more brutal than a 996 work schedule. By the time I got to college, I was a total slacker.
Lin Xi shot her brother a glare and dashed into her room. She had a lot of things to pack.
Sister Shiyun had given her lots of tasty snacks, and Sister Hu Xia had prepared several beautiful outfits for her.
And a bunch of people she’d just met had also given her lots of gifts.
Watching his sister leave, Lin Feng said to his mother, "Mom, don’t be so hard on her. Our family isn’t short on money now; she doesn’t need to struggle so much."
Liu Chunyan gave her son a light smack. "What do you mean she doesn’t need to struggle? She still has to get her education."
"Mom, have any of our relatives contacted you recently about coming to work at Lin Xian Village?"
"Of course. But none of them have come back home yet, so there’s no point in talking about it. We can discuss it when they return from the cities for the New Year."
Liu Chunyan didn’t know what to say to the relatives who called her.
She’d tell them to just come back, but they were unwilling to give up their current jobs. They were truly being penny wise and pound foolish.
The pay at Lin Xian Village was so high. She’d told them that as long as they worked hard, they’d earn a good salary every month, but they just wouldn’t believe it.
After seeing his mother and sister off, Hu Xia and Gu Yuxi came to find him.
Gu Yuxi asked, "Boss, how should we price the cloth woven with the Four-Threaded Jiaoluo technique?"
"The equipment is installed already?"
Lin Feng remembered that clothing made with this technique had special effects.
Hu Xia said, "Wasn’t that recorded in last month’s report?"
Lin Feng instinctively picked up his teacup and took a sip. "That report... I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet."
"It’s not that you haven’t had time to read it. I think you just don’t want to."
"You have it so easy as a boss, not even caring how much money the company makes."
"My bad, my bad. I’ll definitely read the next report you submit right away."
"Anyway, let’s get back to the pricing for clothes made from the Four-Threaded Jiaoluo cloth."
Hu Xia knew that her boss didn’t care at all how much money Lin Xian Village earned each month.
’Then again, even if they embezzled all the money from these Lin Xian Village ventures, Lin Feng, as the boss, wouldn’t be worried in the slightest.’
’With assets like these, there would always be people lining up to throw money at Lin Feng.’
Gu Yuxi said, "Boss, what if we determine the price of the clothes based on the different textile materials?"
He glanced at the description on his data panel. ’The materials used to make the cloth determine the clothing’s special effects.’
"Okay, how about this: first, weave some cloth from different materials and have it made into clothing. Bring the finished products to me, and we’ll set the prices after I’ve taken a look."
Without seeing the physical items and knowing their specific special effects, Lin Feng couldn’t very well set a price.
"I can do that. I’ll go back and have them use different fabrics to make a few samples."
Lin Feng knew that once clothing was made from fabric produced with this technique, the Clothing Workshop would really start to shine.
Although the Clothing Workshop’s apparel sold well, it was more expensive than clothes outside the village, so not many tourists were buying it.
It hadn’t yet reached the point where tourists would snatch up the clothes the moment they were put on display each day.
As Hu Xia was leaving, she said, "Don’t forget about the competition at the Arrow Tower tomorrow."
"I haven’t forgotten, I haven’t forgotten."
After leaving Lin Feng, Hu Xia returned to her office to handle matters concerning the entertainment companies.
This was especially true for Starlight Entertainment Company, which wanted to expand its collaboration with Lin Xian Village.
’We can collaborate on the Barracks training, but filming a variety show in Lin Xian Village is out of the question.’
Hu Xia read on. The company also wanted to periodically send some of their entertainers to perform in Lin Xian Village.
’No matter how I look at it, this just seems like they’re trying to curry favor with Lin Xian Village. The benefits are completely lopsided.’
She then glanced at the group chat for tomorrow’s Arrow Tower competition. Those people from the Jiangcheng Archery Club were really pushing their luck.
They actually expected Lin Xian Village to provide identical prizes for the winners of their Jiangcheng Club event.
They were the ones borrowing Lin Xian Village’s venue to host a competition. It was generous enough that the village wasn’t charging them a fee, and now they wanted Lin Xian Village to provide the prizes as well.
Hu Xia looked at their list of participants and spotted the problem at a glance. Many of them weren’t even from Jiangcheng.
’In other words,’ she thought, ’these people are trying to use this competition to gain permanent access to Lin Xian Village.’
She didn’t believe for a second there weren’t some backroom deals involved. Especially after she contacted that Zheng Kang fellow; his response had been far too simplistic.
’What was that nonsense about not being capable enough and giving up his position as club president?’
’It was such a tiny club. If it weren’t for its collaboration with Lin Xian Village, it wouldn’t have any buzz at all.’
Hu Xia decided not to bother with them anymore. After this collaboration was over, Lin Xian Village would definitely be hosting all of next year’s competitions itself.
Meanwhile, inside the Jiangcheng Archery Club, a few men were gathered together, discussing the next day’s competition.
"Manager Huang, did Lin Xian Village agree to give us identical prizes?"
Huang Shili replied in a servile tone, "Young masters, I proposed the matter to Lin Xian Village, but I haven’t heard back from them."
"Sigh, this Lin Xian Village... they’re just leaving money on the table!"
"Is it that they aren’t making money? They don’t need the money! Haven’t you heard? They made over fifty million in profit this month. That’s a single month’s profit!"
The young master who spoke was truly envious. Making money in Lin Xian Village seemed much easier than running a company.
And that was with them not even trying to make money. Otherwise, the patient slots alone could have netted them over a billion.
"What a shame. If this place were in our hands, forget fifty million—we could be raking in five billion in profit."
The thought of all the amazing things in Lin Xian Village was enough to make their eyes red with envy.
Unfortunately, no one dared to mess with the place right now, so all they could do was test the boundaries, just as they were doing.
The young masters knew full well that if Lin Xian Village refused to offer them identical prizes for tomorrow’s competition, then their club would become useless.
If the prizes were granted, however, the club would instantly take off and bring them a massive network of valuable connections.
...
The next morning in the dining hall, Lin Feng checked up on Lin Lei, stepping forward to squeeze the muscle on his nephew’s arm.
"Xiaolei, are you still practicing that Forging Technique?"
Lin Lei said excitedly, "Yeah, Uncle! I feel like I’m getting stronger and stronger."
He rolled up his sleeve, showing his uncle his well-defined arm and flexing his muscles.
"Just take it slow and don’t injure yourself."
’Lin Feng had a feeling that his nephew might actually be able to master that Forging Technique.’
"Uncle, I can eat a ton every day, and I drink that Medicinal Cuisine every day too."
As if to prove his point, he picked up a large steamed bun and devoured it in a few bites.
"You rascal," Lin Feng said, patting his shoulder as he walked away. "Slow down. No one’s going to steal it from you."
Because of the Arrow Tower competition, the entrance fee for the Arrow Tower tourist area had been waived for the day.
The competitors who had arrived early were already on the Arrow Tower, practicing on the distant targets.
After learning the rules of the competition, all the contestants were particularly surprised by the three-hundred-meter and four-hundred-meter targets.
If they could hit the bullseye on those last two targets during the competition, a high ranking was practically guaranteed.
Especially for the four-hundred-meter target—if you could land more than three arrows in the lowest scoring ring, first place was a lock.
The professional archers analyzed the situation and concluded it was best to focus on the one-hundred-meter and one-hundred-fifty-meter targets. Even they couldn’t guarantee that every arrow would hit the targets beyond that.
Of course, if the score gap grew too large, they would have to take a gamble on the farther targets.
Based on the current practice shots, hitting the four-hundred-meter target was purely a matter of luck. Even they weren’t confident.
The only competitor to hit the four-hundred-meter target so far had done so by a complete fluke.
With only ten arrows per person in the competition, the chances of getting that lucky were too slim. Even the three-hundred-meter target was a challenge.
Compared to the top contenders from December, the skill level of November’s contestants was nothing special.
Even after learning about Lin Xian Village’s rewards and training frantically for a while, the skill gap was still too large.
As for the competitors from the Jiangcheng Club, they were following standard competition procedures, shooting at targets no farther than one hundred meters away.
"Those people don’t look like they’re here for the qualifier. Why are they competing too?"
"Those are people from the Jiangcheng Archery Club. Their competition is separate from ours. Just ignore them."
After Huang Shili arrived, he went to negotiate with Hu Xia, hoping that the prizes for the Jiangcheng Archery Club’s competition could be the same as Lin Xian Village’s.
He had even offered to pay for the prizes, but Hu Xia refused.
The young masters who had come to compete were in a foul mood after hearing the news.
They had hoped to exploit a loophole, but the other party hadn’t left them any opening at all.
As a result, the Jiangcheng Archery Club’s competition, which went first, looked bizarre. The contestants showed no competitive spirit whatsoever.
"Friends in the audience, competing now are the members of the Jiangcheng Archery Club. They are cooperative partners with Lin Xian Village."
"They’ve held competitions here in Lin Xian Village before, and we thank them for bringing us another exciting match."
"Alright, folks, don’t get antsy. As soon as their match is over, the Lin Xian Village Archery Competition will begin."
Lin Feng stood on the high platform, watching them shoot. A few of them looked like they had only just recently picked up a bow.
"And these guys wanted the same prizes as our Lin Xian Village competition? We’re not cooperating with them next year."
"Fine by me," Hu Xia replied. "We haven’t signed a contract anyway, and their skill level is truly pathetic."
Hu Xia had also found out that the Jiangcheng Archery Club hadn’t even planned this competition; they had hastily thrown it together after hearing that Lin Xian Village was hosting one.
There was no need to investigate their motive. It was obviously all about Lin Xian Village.
Upon learning that Lin Xian Village had not agreed to give them identical competition prizes, the people from the Jiangcheng Archery Club hastily concluded their match.
"And now, let’s welcome the owner of Lin Xian Village, Mr. Lin Feng, to the stage to give us a demonstration of his Bow Skill!"
"Many of you in the audience may not know this, but our boss’s Bow Skill is incredible. He can hit the bullseye on a four-hundred-meter target, and you can even find videos of him shooting online."
"..."
Lin Feng picked up a standard bow from the equipment area and walked toward the Arrow Tower.
The professional archers who had come for the competition watched Lin Feng’s casual demeanor and exchanged glances.
"Is he really just going to use that kind of bow?"
"He didn’t even seem to test it. He’s not going to choke, is he?"
"What a showoff!"
"..."
Lin Feng paid no mind to what the people below thought. He casually drew an arrow, lined up his shot, and let it fly.
With his built-in Throwing aiming hack, he was a hundred-percent accurate unless the wind suddenly shifted.
He loosed one arrow at each target, from one hundred meters all the way to four hundred.
The tourists watching with binoculars and the competing archers all stared in astonishment at Lin Feng on the Arrow Tower.
"How is he so fast and so accurate?"
"Who knows? He’s incredible!"
It was only when Lin Feng walked down from the Arrow Tower that the crowd erupted in cheers.
As for the competitors, they were still trying to process the angle and force of Lin Feng’s shots.
