Chapter 220 - 216: A Problem with the Patient

Chapter 220: Chapter 216: A Problem with the Patient

Lin Xian Village’s New Year’s Day gala last night didn’t make any waves online.

However, the tourists’ fruitless attempts at cultivation in Lin Xian Village did spark a discussion among netizens, especially about how difficult the Forging Technique was to practice.

Another matter also caught the attention of netizens: the salaries in Lin Xian Village.

Someone revealed that the total salaries paid out in Lin Xian Village for December would exceed ten million. As soon as this news broke, it instantly captured the widespread attention of netizens.

Other things didn’t matter much, but the salaries were just too enticing.

This was especially true since Lin Xian Village wasn’t some high-end tech company, and many of the jobs didn’t require much technical skill.

In other words, they too had a chance to work in Lin Xian Village, which was the real reason for all the attention.

Of course, this also meant competition for these positions was fierce, since almost anyone could do the work.

To stand out from the crowd, besides being exceptionally qualified, one had to have some sort of special ability.

A little after nine in the morning, the twelve people who had submitted their claims for the treatment slots arrived in Lin Xian Village to handle the paperwork.

A staff member announced loudly, "A final reminder: the transfer of these slots must be voluntary. If we discover any slot was not transferred willingly, the treatment slot will be canceled.

"If it wasn’t voluntary, and you were forced or threatened into transferring it, you can speak up now. We at Lin Xian Village will help you resolve the issue."

The staff member waited a moment. Seeing that no one stepped forward, they said, "Everyone, please head to the conference room next door to sign the contracts."

Hu Xia stood beside Lin Feng, watching the twelve people who had obtained the slots.

"Lin Feng, do you think any of them were forced to trade their slots?"

Lin Feng turned his head and said, "Definitely. Just not forced by outsiders, but by their own families."

’Among those twelve people, two of them had clearly unnatural expressions.’

’However, they didn’t raise any objections, which means the people forcing them are people they can’t refuse.’

Lin Feng didn’t plan to intervene in this situation.

’He’d provided the benefit, anyway. Even if they were pressured by family, it still counted as a voluntary act.’

’It wasn’t as if someone was strong-arming them into handing over the slots.’

According to Lin Xian Village’s investigation, those who sold their slots all received a large sum of money.

Although it wasn’t as much as the bounty offered by that one foreigner, as long as they didn’t spend it recklessly, they could still live a comfortable life.

"Boss, this is Mr. Walker. He’s already signed the contract and wants to bring his daughter to Lin Xian Village for treatment now."

"Hello, thank you very much!"

His broken Chinese made it obvious he had just started learning.

"You’re welcome. You can just speak English.

"As for transferring the patient here for treatment, there’s no problem at all."

After learning that Lin Feng had agreed, Walker was overjoyed and immediately made a call to arrange for his daughter to come to Lin Xian Village.

It seemed this guy had done his research on Lin Xian Village. After bringing his daughter, he didn’t leave.

Instead, he spent a large sum of money to rent a house in the village for a long-term stay.

Just when it seemed everything would proceed smoothly, a problem arose with one of the patients who had received a slot.

"Whose transferred slot is this? Inform them this person cannot be treated in Lin Xian Village."

Lin Feng checked off the problematic person. The man’s negative value exceeded 20, meaning he was already on the list.

’If he wasn’t on the list, Lin Feng wouldn’t have bothered, but anyone on that list was a definite no-go.’

"What’s going on? Why are you kicking us out? Don’t we have a treatment slot?"

"That’s right! My son has a treatment slot! Why are you making us leave? This isn’t fair!"

Hu Xia said, "Ma’am, your son does not meet our treatment conditions."

"Which condition doesn’t he meet? Point it out to us. We’ll change it."

"It can’t be changed. Your son didn’t pass the Earth God’s judgment, so he doesn’t meet Lin Xian Village’s treatment standards.

"You should be well aware of how these slots were obtained. There is no room for negotiation on this matter."

"What do you mean it can’t be changed? Aren’t the conditions set by you people in Lin Xian Village? We can pay! Isn’t it just money you want?"

The woman looked scornful as she slapped a bank card on the table.

"Here. There’s ten million in this. As long as you cure my son, I can give you another fifty million."

Hu Xia looked at her. ’Did no one tell this person about Lin Xian Village before she came here?’

’Money is completely useless in Lin Xian Village. The boss doesn’t lack money, nor is he someone who’s crazy about earning it.’

’Otherwise, it would have been impossible for Lin Xian Village to pay such high salaries.’

"Take the patient and leave. Your money is useless in Lin Xian Village.

"Did you really think you could buy a treatment slot here with money? If the people who originally obtained the slots hadn’t transferred them to you, you wouldn’t have even had a chance.

"Next time, remember to read the contract carefully. You didn’t even read the first clause."

The woman wanted to fly into a rage when she heard Hu Xia’s words, but her son could only be cured here, so she had no choice but to hold it in.

"Can’t you just bend the rules a little? I can give you money."

"Sister, what’s going on?"

Zhou Jun and Sun Lili walked in, surprised that a problem could arise from a transferred treatment slot.

"This person acquired a transferred slot but didn’t even look at the terms.

"Her son didn’t come to pay respects to the Earth God in advance, and now he doesn’t meet the first condition, so he can’t pass."

Hu Zhiming looked at the woman, speechless. ’Even the foreigner knew to bring his daughter to pay respects in advance.’

’Only after confirming they met the first condition did he dare to come and sign the contract.’

"Ma’am, your son doesn’t meet the conditions. Making a scene here is useless.

"If you anger the boss, you’ll likely end up on Lin Xian Village’s blacklist, and then you’ll have no chance at all.

"From what I can see, your son’s problem isn’t that severe. Take him back for now, have him do more good deeds, and maybe there will be another chance for him to be treated here."

"Ah! Is there still a chance?"

"Of course. As for the Earth God’s mechanism, go back and ask someone who understands it, and you’ll see."

The woman took out her phone and immediately made a call. It was obvious the person on the other end was furious.

They weren’t angry about how Lin Xian Village handled it, but about the fact that their sick son had a problem and couldn’t pass the Earth God’s selection.

Because he had been certain his son was fine, he hadn’t bothered with paying respects to the Earth God beforehand. But now, it turned out his son was the problem.

"I’m sorry, so sorry. I’ll take my son and leave right now.

"By the way, this treatment slot can be saved, right?"

"Your slot has now been activated. It will be reserved for one year. If it is not used within that year, the slot will be voided."

Hu Xia didn’t mention that if the patient’s problem was severe, the slot would be voided immediately.

Moreover, because the contract was signed, the people who sold them the slot wouldn’t be refunding their money.

When news spread that a patient who had bought a slot was kicked out by Lin Xian Village, many people waiting for information were astonished.

"What happened? Are the transferred treatment slots unusable?"

"Boss, it’s not that they’re unusable. I heard the person violated the rules set by Lin Xian Village.

"The person who bought the slot didn’t go to pay respects to the Earth God in advance, and it turned out the patient themself was the problem."

"What? How could an idiot like that manage to buy a slot?"

Many who heard the news couldn’t understand why someone would buy a slot without even satisfying the first condition.

People like them would always have the patient who was going to use the slot visit Lin Xian Village and pay respects to the Earth God first before buying.

Only after confirming that no bad luck befell them after the worship would they purchase the slot.

Additionally, if the patient’s problem wasn’t severe, they would find ways to have them perform good deeds to eliminate the misfortune attached to them.

Of course, anyone who suffered a serious injury after worshiping was usually given up on immediately.

This was because the rules of the Earth God had long since been thoroughly figured out.

Only those who had broken the law and committed crimes would suffer serious injuries.

For such criminals, even performing good deeds couldn’t eliminate their problems.

Only by turning themselves in and undergoing a just trial by law could they resolve the issues afflicting them.

Over at Lin Xian Village’s Medicine House, a row of temporary medical pods had been added, their equipment comprehensive.

Some patients’ families, after learning about the medical pods, even took the initiative to donate a considerable amount of medical equipment.

Walker, in particular, upon hearing about the situation, immediately procured medical equipment from abroad and had it air-freighted over.

Having come to Lin Xian Village in person, the foreigner was filled with curiosity about the place.

He even went inside to pay his respects personally in order to explore the wonders of the Earth God.

The result, needless to say, was immediate bad luck. He came out, took a fall, and sprained his ankle.

Among the bodyguards who came with him, one of them broke an arm right after leaving the Land God Temple.

After learning about the Earth God’s function, Walker used his connections to look into this bodyguard’s background.

He discovered the man was a former soldier who had participated in a war of aggression and immediately understood what was going on.

After experiencing the supernatural power of the Earth God, Walker believed even more firmly in the legends about all the good things in Lin Xian Village.

Unfortunately, he discovered that even with all his money, he couldn’t buy any of those things.

Word of Walker’s experience quickly spread among the foreign powers paying attention to Lin Xian Village. Before, they had been skeptical.

Now that a real case had emerged, their interest in Lin Xian Village immediately rose by several levels.

In particular, their efforts to gather intelligence on Lin Xian Village intensified several-fold.

The information blockade previously maintained by domestic forces was quickly broken, and some classified information was transmitted out.

Lin Feng, who was spending time with his sister, had no idea that his rejection of one patient had triggered a chain reaction.

"Brother, I’m so smart now, which university do you think I should choose?" Lin Xi asked, looking at Yu Mo in the distance.

"It’s up to you. The family isn’t short on money now, so just go to whichever university you like."

Lin Feng didn’t really mind. Even if his sister didn’t want to work hard anymore, he could afford to support her.

"Brother! I was asking you for advice, and that’s the same as saying nothing at all! Hmph!"

Lin Xi lightly punched Lin Feng’s shoulder twice before running off toward Mo Yu.

"I’ll go ask Sister Hu Xia and Sister Shiyun in a bit. You’re a useless big brother."

Lin Feng smiled. Seeing his Mom chatting with Wu Jiaxing’s mom, he started walking toward the edge of the village.

Two more buildings were due to be completed in a couple of days.

This time it was the Water Mill and the Oil Workshop. Once they were finished, only the Silk Institute and the four special buildings would be left.

Actually, the Silk Institute was nearly done, too. All that remained was planting the mulberry trees and purchasing the silkworms.

All the basic structures were complete, and the various facilities had been built.

Lin Feng hadn’t upgraded this building yet, mainly because he wanted to wait until the trees were planted to upgrade it all at once.

Besides, with the four special buildings still unfinished, upgrading the Silk Institute wouldn’t be very useful.

’Once the Water Mill and Oil Workshop are built, I can put them to use.’

Lin Feng knew very well that products made by the special buildings were better than anything bought outside.

This was especially true for edible products.

Unfortunately, besides the wheat he was growing, it seemed his hundred acres of land had no use for these two buildings.

After this harvest, he could definitely plant some crops for oil pressing and tofu making.

He walked to the village square and looked at the completed fishery. Now, he was just waiting for the fish fry Professor Zhou was arranging to be delivered.

’I wonder what will happen with mutated fish?’

’The plant mutations were already magical; animal mutations were bound to be just as extraordinary.’

Unfortunately, this kind of animal mutation had never been triggered over at the Livestock Shed, nor had it triggered any quests.
