Rotting Land: Survive
Chapter 1128 - 1116: Old Xu Rescue Plan (14)
Chapter 1128: Chapter 1116: Old Xu Rescue Plan (14)
It’s the first time that Tang Xiaoquan wishes the "Pacers" could be faster. Watching those lethargic zombies swaying lazily and moving at a snail’s pace, he wants nothing more than to go down and whip them into a frenzy.
It’s no wonder Tang Xiaoquan is acting out of character. After all, the speed at which the "Pacers" move directly decides the success or failure of the operation. If they can’t be largely attracted to the Kanghui Mansion, then all the arrangements made by the Survivor Squad will be for nothing.
The "Climbers" who entered the building successfully found the sound device’s placement spot.
As for Tang Xiaoquan, the obstacles arranged in advance in the room by Hu Xiaodong didn’t cause the zombies the expected trouble.
Tang Xiaoquan clearly saw the climbing "Climber" knock the sound device down.
Fortunately, Li Guo had factored in anti-collision aspects during the equipment’s creation, sparing it from becoming defunct after a single fall.
Adjusting the camera, Tang Xiaoquan locked onto other "Climbers."
Because he knew deep down that the room’s Climbers eventually destroying the sound devices was a given.
Even if it happened slightly earlier than expected, if the other sound devices could hold up a bit more, things could be sustained.
Fortunately, through the lens, apart from that lucky "Climber," the other fools mostly searched the wrong places.
Once they entered the wrong room, the "Climbers" became like lost fools, wrecking everything inside, but these brainless creatures couldn’t find even a hint of the sound device in the room.
Moreover, with all the doors of the houses tightly shut, the "Climbers" unable to find a way out became rats in a trap. Some of the slightly smarter creatures knew to seek the door’s location, but due to the door’s sturdiness, how could it be scratched or shattered by a mere lone zombie?
For the moment, the warfare reached a stalemate, and Tang Xiaoquan’s previously anxious heart gradually settled down.
No sign of "Jumpers," no sign of "Runners," all signs showed that the early zombies either got trapped inside the safety corridors or wandered aimlessly inside the rooms.
This is precisely the situation the survivors hoped to see.
After nearly ten more minutes of such conditions, Tang Xiaoquan finally saw a shadow flash past the sole visible passage vent in the building.
One, two, three...
The shadows flashed rapidly, evolving from initial sparks to a raging blaze.
Judging from the density of shadows, Tang Xiaoquan assessed that the seventh-floor safety corridor door had been breached by the creatures.
Before long, the doors of the rooms in the video began to tremble intensely, and Tang Xiaoquan knew the zombies were violently dismantling.
Ignoring the irrelevant rooms, focusing solely on the ones where sound devices were installed, the "Climbers" inside the rooms and the "Intruders" outside were in opposition.
Both sides began drumming on the doors, and soon, the chaotic noise included a "percussion" effect.
"Hey, Xiao Hu, did you hear that sound of the creatures banging on the doors?" Even separated by several streets, Wei Dazhuang, waiting in the car for orders, could clearly hear the commotion caused by the zombies.
Hu Xiaodong silently nodded. The distant racket indicated the zombies had successfully broken through, prompting him to quickly pick up the hand-held radio to confirm with the brothers upstairs: "Hello, hello, what’s the situation now? How is the corpse-drawing operation progressing?"
"Everything is going according to plan!"
This was mere lip service. To avoid unsettling the operators, Tang Xiaoquan chose this safe answer.
However, Hu Xiaodong wasn’t the type to be easily fooled. Unhappy with the reply from the microphone, he continued to probe: "What about the zombies? How many have intruded into the building?"
"Uh..." Trying to continue deceiving him, but given Hu Xiaodong’s persistent questioning, Tang Xiaoquan realized that if he continued to fool him, it might backfire, causing the brothers downstairs to become suspicious.
After all, Hu Xiaodong’s experience and status were evident. Attempting to deceive him wasn’t simple, especially in life-and-death situations like this.
"Currently, the seventh-floor safety corridor door is broken; the zombies have successfully invaded."
Truthfully reporting the building’s situation to Hu Xiaodong, Hu Xiaodong calculated:
The seventh floor is breached, but the sixth and eighth floors remain intact. Not bad! This at least buys us more time.
"What about the sound device status? What’s your detection result on your end? How many are damaged?"
Tang Xiaoquan glanced at the central control equipment on the table, noticing that the display light alongside the eighth dial had gone out.
These indicator lights were specially designed by the Li Family brothers for monitoring purposes.
A lit light represented the device working normally, while a dimmed light indicated the equipment malfunctioned.
So...
"Currently, one sound device is damaged, the rest are still okay."
With one damaged, eleven devices are still operational, which is within a controllable range. Hu Xiaodong nodded in satisfaction again.
"What’s the situation on the road? How’s the transfer of the zombies encircling Old Xu?"
This is the key focus of the mission. No matter how many zombies are in the mansion; if the ones surrounding Old Xu haven’t shown significant changes, then everything would be useless.
Tang Xiaoquan adjusted the camera, moving it point by point between Kanghui Mansion and the location where Old Xu was trapped.
After completing the observations, he confirmed and replied: "The zombies are all in motion; our sound source is successfully drawing them. Currently, most of the zombies that were surrounding Old Xu are moving towards Kanghui Mansion. Once the Pacers reach the designated position, you can proceed with the operation."
"Good! Good! I understand! Keep monitoring, and contact me immediately with any new developments. Out!"
"OK, Brother Hu! Once the timing is right, I’ll notify you for action. Out!"
Putting down the hand-held radio, Tang Xiaoquan exhaled lightly, then tensed his nerves again, picked up the binoculars, and scanned the combat zone.
Hu Xiaodong had inquired about the mansion and the situation on Old Xu’s end but overlooked one key point.
That was the situation with the other streets’ zombies.
Indeed, the key concern for this operation is the dynamics of Kanghui Mansion and the zombies surrounding Old Xu.
Yet, the activity signs of zombies in the nearby streets equally influence whether the rescue plan can be smoothly executed.
Through the binoculars, observations showed that at least three blocks away, the zombies were showing abnormal activity, which somewhat aligns with our earlier predictions.
Witnessing this scene, Tang Xiaoquan sincerely admired Li Zhong and Li Guo’s skill; relying solely on verbal instructions and Hua Biao’s hand-drawn schematic, they controlled the sound device’s range precisely.
The saying that technological knowledge is power is entirely accurate, and if this mission is successfully completed, Li Zhong and Li Guo deserve the highest honors.
Additionally, on reflection, this also seems to be fate’s mysterious design.
Thinking back, Old Xu was resolute in saving the Li Family brothers, little did he know that months later, his own life would be in their hands.
