Chapter 1127: Chapter 1115: Old Xu Rescue Plan (13)
The zombies moved, and the first to break through the tight siege were the "Jumpers," these creatures have innate physical advantages. Despite the dense crowd of zombies, they manage to leap out using their exceptional jumping ability and then track the sound source.
This isn’t the situation the survivors wanted to see, as the number of "Jumpers" remains a minority within the zombie army.
The rescue team truly needs to attract and deal with the numerous "Pacers."
These creatures, large in number, move slowly, and they can easily fall if they aren’t careful.
So if the "Jumpers" reach the target location first and destroy the sound-source equipment, it would be very detrimental to the entire operation.
Precisely because of this, at the beginning of the action, Tang Xiaoquan identified the "Jumpers" as one of the variables in this operation.
As the "Jumpers" broke through the siege, a group of "Runners" moving along the outskirts quickly followed.
These speed-oriented creatures, once detached from the group, immediately ran full speed toward the sound source.
Watching the rapidly charging "Runners," Tang Xiaoquan was very glad he had stopped Hua Biao’s reckless rescue idea.
Otherwise, even if everyone from the base joined in, they might still struggle to stop a wave of attacks from these ****.
Before long, the leading "Jumpers" rushed into Kanghui Mansion.
"Hey, Xiaotang, what’s the situation on the street now?" asked Hu Xiaodong via the microphone from inside the van at the bottom of the building, unaware of the road conditions.
Duan Chengwu grabbed the hand-held radio and immediately replied: "The zombies have started moving, the sound source is effectively attracting them."
"Good, that’s great. You guys should contact Old Xu and ask about the situation inside the building."
"Understood!"
For the rescue to succeed, simply luring the zombies off the road is clearly not enough. The ones inside the building must leave too for Old Xu and Lei Tong to have a chance of escaping.
Following orders, Duan Chengwu quickly composed a message. Although texting was time-consuming, due to the radio noise and Old Xu’s besieged situation, for safety’s sake, both sides agreed to use silent communication.
Soon, Duan Chengwu received Old Xu’s reply.
"How is it? What did Old Xu say?" Wang Qiang asked solemnly, in a low voice.
"Old Xu said judging by the sounds from outside, the zombies should have started moving."
"Great! That’s good!" Wang Qiang smiled with joy upon hearing Duan Chengwu’s reply.
However, compared to Wang Qiang’s happiness, Tang Xiaoquan remained much calmer.
He kept monitoring the movements at Kanghui Mansion with his binoculars.
Tang Xiaoquan knew the operation had just started and it’s far from the time to be relieved or joyful.
"When you go out later, don’t be nervous. Stay close to Lei Ge. Haven’t you always been worried about your father? I’m telling you now, your father is outside waiting for you." Old Xu hadn’t informed the young man about his father’s survival because he didn’t want to give him too much hope, fearing he might act rashly.
But now, with the break out imminent, the news of his father’s survival is undoubtedly the biggest confidence booster for the young man.
Indeed, upon hearing Old Xu’s statement, the young man showed a brief moment of daze, then gestured with his arms, mumbling "um uh." Unable to understand his meaning, Xu Renjie signaled Lei Tong to bring paper and pen, handing it to the young man: "If you have questions or things to say, write them here."
The young man immediately grabbed the paper and pen offered by Old Xu and quickly scribbled out a line of characters: "You say my father is outside. What evidence do you have?"
Humph! Quite alert for someone young.
"I can’t give you evidence right now. If you want answers, follow my instructions, and I promise you’ll see him once we’re out."
It was an unguaranteed promise, for even Old Xu himself couldn’t be sure if the young man would meet his father after getting out.
After all, so much time had passed, Old Xu had no idea what had occurred outside the home.
Though the brothers outside consistently relayed information to him, always assuring safety and tranquility.
Old Xu knew well, considering the brothers’ personalities, even if danger occurred, they might intentionally withhold the truth to comfort him.
Moreover, Huo Yuankai was an outsider, and so it would be understandable for his fate to be kept hidden by his brothers.
Besides, even if Huo Yuankai is currently safe, the upcoming rescue operation might not ensure his survival.
Nevertheless, the immediate task was to reassure the young man, making him cooperate with the evacuation smoothly.
As for the matter of Huo Yuankai’s life or death afterward, it can be discussed later.
The young man couldn’t discern whether Old Xu’s words were true or false, but at that moment, he had no other choice.
"Being alive is the guarantee that you have a chance to see your father. I think you know what you need to do." Old Xu reinforced his point, patting the young man’s shoulder before saying no more.
Contrary to expectations, the first to reach the sound-source location weren’t the leading "Jumpers" or the full-speed "Runners," but those leisurely moving "Climbers" from the third echelon.
At first, this might seem illogical, but upon careful analysis, it all makes sense.
Why? This relates to the layout of the Survivor Squad. Indeed, in terms of speed, the "Climbers" can’t match the "Jumpers" or "Runners."
In fact, the first to arrive at Kanghui Mansion were indeed the "Jumpers" of the primary group.
However, entering the building didn’t mean they could reach the sound-source. The Survivor Squad had specifically set some obstacles to delay the zombies.
Yet, those initial creatures that rushed into the building either got confused by disorienting sounds.
Or they were blocked by doors tied up on the safety passage.
With this delay, the "Climbers" naturally followed up.
Once at the building, the "Climbers" showcased their climbing advantage.
These creatures used the stairs and walls along with their own abilities, easily bypassing the obstacles set by the survivors inside the building. Although noise slightly affected their judgment, it didn’t stop them from searching inside.
In just over three minutes, a "Climber" successfully found and entered the sound-source location set by the survivors.
Through binocular observation, Tang Xiaoquan clearly saw the creature’s frantic rummaging in the room.
This was really troublesome! Although he knew zombie entry into the sound-source location was inevitable, the early intrusion was far beyond Tang Xiaoquan’s expectations.
If the situation continues like this, Tang Xiaoquan worries whether the set sound source can hold until the first echelon of "Pacers" arrives.
