Rotting Land: Survive
Chapter 1104 - 1092
Chapter 1104: Chapter 1092
"All right! Let’s retreat!" After tidying up the last speaker, Hua Biao called for the brothers to withdraw.
Duan Chengwu and Shen Lian, upon receiving the command, immediately withdrew from the alert position and followed Hua Biao toward the street.
The journey was smooth; the careful cleaning along the way ensured the trio encountered no obstacles during their retreat.
Once they reached the street smoothly, they didn’t pause and continued forward.
By this time, the sky overhead had already darkened, and they needed to quickly find a suitable location to camp for the night.
Anyone who has experienced snowy nights in the wild knows that sleeping on the streets in the winter months is unpleasant.
Especially in a perilous apocalypse?
After walking 3 kilometers, thoroughly leaving the troublesome area around the school, the trio finally found a place to settle down.
Setting up tents, starting a fire to cook, Hua Biao and the other two moved efficiently, quickly completing their tasks.
Before long, a fragrant army hot pot was ready.
Each person served themselves a bowl and gathered around to chat.
"So Hua Zi, how much did we gather this time?" Duan Chengwu asked after sipping his soup.
"Not bad, in total we’ve got about a dozen, big and small combined."
After a whole afternoon of effort, the trio killed no less than 30 zombies, but their gains after such a long busy period were...
Regardless, they at least completed their mission.
According to Li Zhong’s instructions before departure, the rescue needed around 8 vehicle broadcast speakers.
Now, with the trio gathering 12 speakers, they have successfully completed the organization’s arrangement.
After finishing dinner, Shen Lian and Hua Biao both went to sleep, while Duan Chengwu sat by, taking on the first night watch.
In the winter, darkness falls quickly after dusk, and by just 6 o’clock, it’s completely dark outside.
Yet the snow’s contrast keeps things from being too dark; Duan Chengwu boredly grips his teacup and starts the arduous night watch.
The snow keeps falling, fluttering about.
Around 10 o’clock, Duan Chengwu woke Hua Biao to start the first shift.
"How goes it? No issues, right?"
"None! Everything’s fine!"
"Good, then go get some sleep." Hua Biao replied with a yawn while letting Duan Chengwu move into the spot he just vacated.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he sat down, he heard unusual sounds outside the tent.
"Did you hear that?" Duan Chengwu straightened up suddenly, also hearing the commotion outside.
Exchanging glances, Hua Biao grabbed the cleaver and roused the slumbering Shen Lian.
Shen Lian raised an eyebrow, and seeing the grave expression on Hua Biao’s face, realized something must be wrong outside the tent.
"Zombies?"
Shaking his head, Hua Biao handed weapons to Duan Chengwu and Shen Lian.
Given the tent’s cramped space, their movements were not very convenient.
And to avoid "alerting the enemy," the trio dared not act rashly.
The priority was to assess the situation outside; even if there were zombies, they needed to ascertain how many creatures were active.
This matter cannot be taken lightly; Hua Biao exchanged a look with Shen Lian and Duan Chengwu.
The two then grabbed their knives, ready for combat, while he reached for the tent’s ventilation slot.
Grasping the zipper, he gently pulled it open.
Fortunately, the tent was new and of decent quality, and the zipper made no loud noises during operation.
Once the zipper was fully undone, Hua Biao grasped a corner of the ventilation curtain and slowly lifted it upwards.
Outside the curtain was a viewing port made of transparent rainproof plastic, akin to a window in a house.
Due to the material and snowy interference, Hua Biao wasn’t worried about outside beings seeing inside.
However, facts are unpredictable; although zombies’ vision is indeed degraded, at very close range, the results could be different.
As the curtain lifted, Hua Biao, Shen Lian, and Duan Chengwu all instinctively held their breaths, even regulating their heartbeats as slow as possible.
It seemed only this way would avoid being detected by outside "abnormalities."
The cleaver grips produced "crackling" sounds, a scene indicating an impending battle.
But when Hua Biao pulled the curtain halfway up, his eyes on the window suddenly changed, and he subconsciously released the curtain, letting it fall and cover the window again.
"What’s the situation? What did you see?" Because Hua Biao’s actions were too quick, neither Duan Chengwu nor Shen Lian in the rear saw outside.
But before Shen Lian could finish speaking, the entire tent shook violently, and the just-covered window bulged, pushing a "human face-like" thing inward.
"What on earth is going on!?" Shen Lian asked again in a deep voice, unable to ignore the situation.
Hua Biao didn’t respond, instead lifting the curtain, revealing a disgusting face enveloped by plastic, its mouth opening and closing, flaunting at the trio.
Zombies! No doubt about it.
Eyeing the creature’s sharp teeth eager to tear through the curtain, Hua Biao didn’t hesitate, drawing a short blade from his waist and thrusting it right at the creature’s big face.
Back and forth, responding to the target, Hua Biao didn’t need to exert much strength to easily pierce the zombie’s skull.
As the blade penetrated the cranium, a spray of blood sword erupted, painting the once-transparent rainproof plastic red.
Pulling out the blade, the zombie attempting a sneak attack fell weakly, leaving the nearly collapsed tent peaceful again.
The icy wind whistled through the damaged fabric, and the trio instinctively shivered from the gust.
"Go! Get out there now!"
The sudden slaying of the zombie blew the horn of battle.
Now that the battle curtain had opened, staying put for observation was meaningless.
After all, this tent was merely a bundle of cloth for camping, lacking sturdy structures for support, nothing to provide necessary protection.
Rather than stay inside and get caught by the beasts, it’s better to go out and carve a bloody path.
Under Hua Biao’s command, Duan Chengwu and Shen Lian immediately took action, the trio tearing open the tent door and rushing out together.
The bitter cold pierced through; even though it was cold indoors, it was nothing compared to the outside temperature.
Aligned side by side, the trio advanced forward but did not maintain a significant distance from each other.
This was a perfect formation for the current situation: advancing to sweep, and coordinating if encountering dangers.
However, after all the agitation, the trio found no other threats.
With no other option, they had to bury the cleared zombies beside the tent into the snow.
It was a false alarm, but it served as a wake-up call for the trio.
For the rest of the night, none could sleep peacefully.
Thus, the three endured until dawn, and as soon as the day broke, they set off immediately without even having breakfast.
According to the agreement, they needed to reach the base by noon, so to avoid worrying their families, the trio decided to embark early.
