Chapter 292 - 291: Bai Menghan’s Boldness
Chapter 292: Chapter 291: Bai Menghan’s Boldness
He turned around to see Bai Menghan, who had already changed, walking toward him with a lazy stretch.
Watching Bai Menghan, as languid as a little kitten, Fang Chenyi felt a stir of desire. However, remembering he had business to attend to soon, he pushed the thought aside.
He smiled and beckoned to Bai Menghan. When she came closer, Fang Chenyi wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into his embrace.
"My little lazy cat, why didn’t you sleep in a little longer?"
She gave his wandering arm a helpless pinch, then said, a bit peeved,
"Do you know what time it is? If I’d slept any longer, we’d be late to pick them up."
He reached over to the coffee table, picked up a pair of watches—one for a man, one for a woman, identical except for their size—and held them out in front of Bai Menghan. He said with a smile,
"Don’t worry, we’re taking the helicopter. We’ll be there in no time. Here, this is for you. What do you think? Do you like it?"
Letting herself be held in Fang Chenyi’s embrace, she took one of the two watches from his hand and began to examine it, a hint of delight appearing in her eyes.
It wasn’t because of the watch’s value, but because they were a matching couple’s set.
This filled Bai Menghan’s heart with a sweet warmth.
She gently held the watch against her fair wrist for a moment. Then, her face full of delight, she showed it to Fang Chenyi and asked,
"How does it look?"
Fang Chenyi took the watch from her hand and fastened it on her wrist himself. He then put on a serious, contemplative expression. After a long moment, he shook his head and spoke.
"Sigh... what a waste. A waste of such a beautiful watch."
Hearing this, Bai Menghan pinched the soft flesh on his side and pouted,
"Are you saying I’m not pretty?"
Fang Chenyi just shook his head again, maintaining his deadpan expression as he said,
"That’s not it. I mean, it’s a shame for such a beautiful watch. Why did it have to be worn on my Xiao Hanhan’s wrist? It’s just asking for trouble. Its beauty is completely overshadowed by my Xiao Hanhan’s elegance."
Fang Chenyi’s words made Bai Menghan blush. She let out a soft huff, then pretended to be fierce.
"Hmph. Well, it’s too late to decide you don’t like how I look~"
Fang Chenyi planted a big, loud kiss on Bai Menghan’s cheek and quickly said with a grin,
"Who said that? My Xiao Hanhan is so beautiful, I could look at you for a lifetime and never get tired of it!"
"You sweet-talker. Here, let me put your watch on for you."
Bai Menghan’s heart filled with sweetness at his words. She took his watch and helped fasten it onto his wrist. Then, she brought her arm close to his, placing the two watches side-by-side. Her eyes crinkled into smiling crescents.
However, when her gaze fell upon the other eighteen watches still on the coffee table, Bai Menghan was left speechless.
"Chenyi, why on earth did you buy so many watches?"
At her question, Fang Chenyi chuckled.
"Well, a man needs to have a few watches prepared. You know, a different watch for every occasion."
Bai Menghan shot him a look, then put on a mock-fierce expression and said,
"Oh? So by that logic, does that mean you should have a few extra wives on hand, too? A different wife for every occasion?"
Fang Chenyi was utterly defeated by the girl’s comeback. Looking at her adorably fierce expression, he pretended to mull it over before speaking.
"Hmm, no need to prepare that many. The main reason is that my wife is just too perfect. She can grace a formal hall and command a kitchen. Basically, she’s perfect for any and every occasion."
Pfft—
Watching Fang Chenyi spout such utter nonsense with a straight face, Bai Menghan couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
She gave his arm a light pat, then pointed to the new watch on her wrist and said,
"Alright, alright, stop teasing. It’s almost noon, shouldn’t we get going?"
Just as she spoke, the sound of a helicopter starting up came from outside.
Clearly, Liu Yishou was warming up the helicopter.
He patted Bai Menghan’s hand, and the two of them left the villa, arm in arm.
As they approached the helicopter, they saw Liu Yishou already in the cockpit. When he saw Fang Chenyi and Bai Menghan emerge, Liu Yishou gave Fang Chenyi a thumbs-up, signaling they were ready for takeoff.
Fang Chenyi nodded and led Bai Menghan by the hand toward the helicopter’s cabin door.
It was worth mentioning that a standard Apache helicopter could only carry three people. But to adapt it for domestic flights and his own practical needs, Fang Chenyi had all its weapons systems removed. He even had Ouyang Jun help modify the rear, converting the space for a built-in missile launcher into a small cabin that could seat four. Now, including the pilot and gunner up front, the entire aircraft could accommodate six people.
These modifications didn’t affect the aircraft’s flight performance at all. For instance, if Fang Chenyi wanted to, he could simply remove the rear passenger cabin and reinstall the missile launcher, and the helicopter would once again become a gunship armed to the teeth.
Once inside the cabin, the roar of the engines became much quieter after the door was closed.
After helping Bai Menghan fasten her seatbelt, he picked up the headset beside his seat, put it on, and spoke to Liu Yishou up front.
"We’re ready for takeoff."
Receiving Fang Chenyi’s command, Liu Yishou immediately engaged the rotors. With a WHIRRING of the blades, the Apache began to rise slowly. It then lurched forward, heading toward the airport.
Inside, even with the cabin door closed, the tremendous roar of the rotors was still clearly audible.
Fang Chenyi sighed and helped Bai Menghan put on her headset. ’I’ll have to get the soundproofing in this cabin improved later,’ he thought to himself.
Bai Menghan, on the other hand, was incredibly excited. Perhaps because it was her first time in a helicopter, she was glued to the window.
This was especially true because of the modifications Ouyang Jun had made; to create more space, he had extended the cabin outwards as much as the fuselage would allow.
Of course, this was only possible thanks to Ouyang Jun being a researcher at a weapons and equipment institute; an ordinary workshop wouldn’t dare to modify a military gunship like this.
Because of this modification, a good portion of the new cabin actually protruded from the fuselage. Looking through the glass, passengers felt as if they were sitting right outside the aircraft.
Watching Bai Menghan’s excited expression, Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but marvel. ’This girl really is fearless. Before I learned how to fly, looking down from this high up would’ve probably made my legs turn to jelly.’
"So, what do you think? I could teach you how to fly this thing later," Fang Chenyi joked to Bai Menghan through the headset.
To his surprise, Bai Menghan nodded excitedly.
"Yes! When I have some free time, I want to get my pilot’s license."
