“You bastard… Hahaha! Brilliant, brilliant! You really didn’t disappoint me!”

Even after using his killer move, Bai Ning Bing had still lost. Ice Blade Storm was powerful, but it could do nothing against Lin Feng once he took to the sky. No matter how fiercely the storm raged across the ground, it could not reach an eagle soaring above it.

Soon, the primeval essence within Bai Ning Bing’s aperture was completely exhausted. Ice Blade Storm possessed tremendous power, but its consumption was equally frightening. Even the recovery speed of the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique could not keep up with such expenditure.

Bai Ning Bing collapsed onto the grass, his body weak and exhausted, yet a rare smile remained on his face. Not only had he witnessed Bone Path methods that were almost nonexistent on Qing Mao Mountain, he had even encountered the extremely rare ability to fly.

He had lost this battle, but he had lost happily.

Lin Feng descended nearby, folded his bone wings, and walked over before sitting beside Bai Ning Bing. “A bet is a bet. Since you lost, it’s time for me to make my request.”

“Request?” Bai Ning Bing immediately became wary. “What do you want? Didn’t you say I only needed to pay for primeval stones?”

Lin Feng found the grass somewhat uncomfortable, so he pressed it down before casually lying back. “Relax. I’m not going to ask for anything excessive. I just want some of your blood. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

“Blood?” Bai Ning Bing looked at him strangely. “Sure, but what do you need my blood for?”

Before Bai Ning Bing could think any further, Lin Feng calmly answered, “Gu refinement, of course. Didn’t you come to my shop because you wanted Frost Demon Gu refined? Using some of the client’s blood during refinement can improve the compatibility between the Gu and its owner. That’s basic refinement knowledge. Don’t tell me you don’t know that.”

Lin Feng naturally could not admit that he wanted to study Bai Ning Bing’s blood and determine whether the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique possessed any special properties compared to an ordinary Gu Master.

“Of course I know. The academy elder taught us that.” Bai Ning Bing immediately accepted the explanation. “I just thought you wanted it for something else.”

Lin Feng’s expression remained perfectly natural.

Bai Ning Bing stared at him for a moment before becoming confused instead. “That’s all? What kind of request is that? You would’ve needed my blood to refine the Gu anyway.”

“Then how about one more thing?” Lin Feng thought for a moment before remembering certain records concerning the Five Xiangs. “If possible, give me copies of some historical records and old legends preserved by the Bai Clan. I’m particularly interested in anything concerning your clan’s origins.”

Bai Ning Bing raised an eyebrow but did not immediately refuse.

“Speaking of your clan’s history…” Lin Feng looked toward the sky. “If the Five Xiangs hadn’t fallen apart because of a single bet, the Bai Clan might have become one of the Southern Border’s super forces by now. What a pity.”

The thought reminded Lin Feng of the fate of the Five Xiangs.

Bai Clan’s ancestor was Bai Xiang, one of the Five Xiangs of Southern Border. All five were extraordinary Rank Eight Gu Immortals who cultivated different paths. Bai Xiang cultivated Ice and Snow Path, Qi Xiang cultivated Qi Path, Chi Xiang cultivated Food Path, Ni Xiang cultivated Earth Path, while Xue Xiang cultivated Blood Path.

The five Rank Eight Gu Immortals had once joined forces to explore white heaven. During one of their expeditions, they unexpectedly discovered an inheritance left behind by a Venerable.

It was half of a true inheritance left behind by Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable, known as Heaven Form.

There was only one problem. The inheritance could only have one master.

None of the Five Xiangs were willing to surrender such an opportunity to the others. They fought repeatedly, yet all five were powerful Rank Eight experts and none could secure a decisive victory.

In the end, they settled the matter through a bet.

The wager stipulated that each of the Five Xiangs would spread their bloodlines and allow their descendants to develop independently. When the agreed period ended, whichever bloodline had developed the best would inherit the Rank Nine killer move, Heaven Form.

Countless years had passed since then, and the wager was gradually approaching its conclusion.

Among the five bloodlines, Xue Xiang’s descendants cultivated the Blood Path. Because the Blood Path was rejected by the righteous path of the Southern Border, they suffered repeated suppression and pursuit until their bloodline was eventually wiped out.

Chi Xiang’s descendants fared little better. Those living within the immortal aperture became complacent and lacked the drive needed to produce Gu Immortals, while those scattered throughout the outside world lacked sufficient Food Path cultivation resources. With both sides facing their own difficulties, Chi Xiang’s bloodline gradually declined.

Ni Xiang’s descendants had produced several Gu Immortals. Although their numbers were small, nearly every one of them was exceptional. The most extraordinary among them was Ni Ren, whose research into human-body Gu refinement eventually allowed him to refine Immortal Gu directly into the bloodlines of his descendants. Through this method, mortal descendants of the Ni Clan could temporarily wield the power of Immortal Gu, an achievement so remarkable that even Great Love Immortal Venerable had once admired it.

Unfortunately, such Immortal Gu inevitably attracted greed. The Qi Clan eventually broke the rules of the Five Xiangs’ wager and acted against the Ni Clan. By now, the various Ni Clan villages had fallen under the Qi Clan’s control, leaving Ni Xiang’s descendants with almost no possibility of reversing their situation.

Of all five bloodlines, Qi Xiang’s descendants had developed the best. They possessed more than ten villages throughout the Southern Border and had produced numerous talented Gu Masters over the generations. Several Gu Immortals had emerged from their bloodline over the past few thousand years, giving the Qi Clan a foundation that could already rival certain super forces of the Southern Border.

As for Bai Xiang’s descendants, only the branch occupying Bai Clan Village on Qing Mao Mountain remained.

Because the Five Xiangs had competed against and restrained one another for generations, Bai Clan’s historical records should contain information about the descendants of the other four Xiangs as well. This was the true reason Lin Feng wanted access to their records.

He was particularly interested in the inheritances left behind by Chi Xiang and Xue Xiang. One cultivated Food Path, while the other cultivated Blood Path. If their descendants had truly disappeared or declined, then the ruins of their former settlements might still contain portions of their inheritances.

“Fine.” Bai Ning Bing agreed without hesitation, causing Lin Feng to look at him with some surprise. “You’re not going to ask why I want them?”
