Chapter 1290: Chapter 1262: Competing for Naming Rights
"You little brat, get out of the way!" Mr. Yu pushed Yu Minglang aside and immediately saw his sleeping granddaughter, causing his mouth to involuntarily curve into a smile, and his whole demeanor relaxed, feeling utterly overjoyed.
Mrs. Yu also leaned over to look, sharing a similar expression—it’s a girl!
"Mom, did you notice? Why isn’t my daughter’s head round? Oh my, should we get a doctor to check? Did I not deliver her properly?" Yu Minglang looked at her for a long time and suddenly realized his daughter’s head was slightly pointed, and felt a little anxious.
"It’s fine, babies born naturally are like this, it’ll be normal in a few days." Mrs. Yu reassured him that it’s normal for babies born naturally to have a slightly distorted head due to pressure, but it’ll correct itself soon.
Qian’s mom came in carrying a thermal container, her face brimming with delight.
"Mom, are you okay?" Qian saw the bruises on her mother’s face and thought of how she fought off the villains to protect her. She tried to sit up but was pressed down by Yu Minglang, reminding her she needed to rest!
"I’m fine, my granddaughter brings blessings, everything feels better when I see her. Come, Qian’er, have a bowl of vegetable soup to restore your strength."
Everyone said Qian’s newborn daughter was a little lucky star; it seemed that all worries vanished after her arrival, filling Qian’s heart with joy.
Qian’s mom served her a bowl of vegetable soup. Qian wasn’t really hungry, but drank it to quickly replenish nutrition and produce milk for the baby.
Her eldest brother, sister-in-law, and second brother’s family came by, eager to catch a glimpse of the baby before letting Qian and her daughter rest.
With everyone gathered, Mr. Yu cleared his throat, "I want to say a few words."
Everyone looked at him.
"I’ve been thinking outside, as the first girl in our family, I believe the naming rights should unquestionably belong to me, her grandfather."
Yu Minglang wanted to speak, as he, the father, also wished to name his child!
Qian discreetly tugged his sleeve, indicating they should first listen to the old man.
Mr. Yu, full of pride and boasting, announced to everyone.
"My granddaughter was born in the mountains, and I feel she should be named Yu Aishan! It’s meaningful and expresses love for our country and its landscapes. What do you think?"
"Cough—!" Qian choked, Qian’s mom tilted the soup bowl, spilling a little.
Mrs. Yu and others widened their eyes, and the eldest and second brothers, for once, shared synchronized expressions of shock, then looked sympathetically at the poor little niece—a lovely baby, how could she be given such a strange, rural name right at birth?
Xiaoqiang flared up.
What the hell is this!
His daughter was given a name that sounds like it’s from the founding period of the last century?!
Mr. Yu, seeing everyone’s stunned expressions, proudly explained the origin of the name.
"I thought about it carefully outside; girls need to show the spirit of being heroines, just like the Yu family’s girls can go to the battlefield with a rifle, defending our country and people, bringing glory—"
Qian panicked and nudged Xiaoqiang, indicating he should hurry up!
If not stopped, the daughter could end up being named Yu Shanpao, heaven forbid!
Before Yu Minglang could object, Mrs. Yu couldn’t take it anymore and twisted Mr. Yu’s ear, ignoring the presence of Qian’s mom and the kids.
"Hey, old woman, what are you doing! If you have different ideas, propose them and let everyone vote on it. Why resort to violence!"
Mr. Yu felt quite wronged.
"Vote my foot! What’s with such a name? Give me a break with the mountain! If you dare give my granddaughter such a weird name, you’d better move to the mountains and live there, with your fondness for them, don’t give my granddaughter odd names! A girl named after a mountain, really?"
Qian’s mom also gently spoke up, "Um... in-law, I also feel we should discuss the name further."
Even a housewife without much education found that mountain-related name unpleasant!
Everyone nodded in agreement, yes, spare the child!
"Is it really that unsuitable?" Mr. Yu asked.
"Get lost to somewhere cooler!" Mrs. Yu pushed him aside, thinking with such naming skills he better not mess around with the name, better get out!
Thus, Mr. Yu, unable to fulfill his role, was pushed aside, feeling aggrieved, pointing fingers, as he genuinely tried hard to think of names.
"Old man, you need to hurry up with naming her, to register the household." The eldest brother suggested.
"How about Yu Yiguang, it pairs with the second’s child." Mrs. Yu suggested as she looked at the older child Daxin holding a little one; the two were just months apart, so having matching names would be nice.
Qian wasn’t fond of that name, "I feel Yu Yiwei is better."
She still wanted her daughter to be called Xiaowei.
"Or Yu Yishan!" Mr. Yu quickly chimed in, not forgetting the child came from the mountains, trying to negotiate for one character.
They all pretended not to hear.
Panpan, following Daxin, constantly eyed the baby—this was his little sister, so adorable, different from his family’s younger brother.
The adults circled around discussing the baby’s name, and he leaned in to see his little sister; her tiny hands waving in a surrender pose above her head. Panpan wanted to secretly poke her little hands but hesitated, just staring wide-eyed.
Amidst adult debates over the name, Qian insisted on calling her Yiwei. Mrs. Yu and Qian’s mom preferred Xiaoguang, while Mr. Yu still favored Xiaoshan, but of course, no one paid attention, pretending Mr. Yu was invisible.
"Everyone quiet!" Yu Minglang saw the situation, it was time to speak up, after all, he’s the father!
They looked at him, and Yu Minglang gazed lovingly at Qian, "Honey, may I have the naming rights for our child?"
"Let’s hear what you have to say first."
Qian softened, remembering how in his past life he never had the chance to name their child, she wanted to hear his opinion.
Finally, his chance came! Yu Minglang was eager, he had an idea that’s been in his heart for so long!
"I delivered the baby myself, I’m her biological father, I’ve worked so hard, you all admit it, right?"
Yu Minglang wanted everyone to agree on granting him the naming rights.
Though the crowd was somewhat reluctant, seeing this adorable baby delivered by him, they recognized his merit.
"Giving you a chance, tell us your proposed name." Mrs. Yu granted permission.
Yu Minglang proudly lifted his head like a cocky rooster.
"I’m Yu Minglang, as for my daughter’s name... how about Yu Xiaolang? Take one part from each of me and my dear Qian, highlighting parental love and, more importantly, my life continues!"
Everyone was stunned, even Qian’s mouth twitched.
