Chapter 784: Chapter-784

"Let me ask you again. Is there something you’re hiding from me? Something related to the original owner’s wish, perhaps?"

The system’s lips trembled.

For a brief moment, it looked as though he wanted to say something. But then he pressed his lips together and shook his head.

"No, Host. There’s nothing like that."

Heena stared at him.

Then, to his surprise, she smiled.

"All right."

The system blinked.

"All right?"

"Yes. If you say there’s nothing, then there’s nothing."

For a moment, the little fellow looked relieved.

But that relief didn’t last long.

Heena picked up her ingredients and continued preparing the powder as though the conversation had never happened.

"However," she added casually, "from now on, I’ll be paying a little more attention to you."

The system’s face paled.

"Host..."

"What? You don’t like it?"

"N-no!"

"Good."

Heena smiled pleasantly.

"Then we’re in agreement."

The system wanted to cry.

I’m doomed.

Heena, meanwhile, returned to her work with a satisfied expression.

She wasn’t going to waste the entire evening interrogating a system that clearly had no intention of speaking honestly. There were better ways to uncover secrets, and she had learned long ago that sometimes, the best approach was to let the other party believe they had gotten away with something.

Sooner or later, they would make another mistake.

And when that happened, she would be ready.

For now, she had powder to prepare, money to earn, and a house that desperately needed improvement.

As for marriage?

Heena glanced at the trembling system out of the corner of her eye.

Let’s see what you’re so desperate to hide first, little fellow.

Only then would she decide what to do next.

One hour later....

After finishing her work, Heena finally decided that it was time to take a bath.

She had been feeling dusty and uncomfortable for quite some time now. Thanks to the wound on her body, she hadn’t been able to take a proper bath in days. After arriving in this world, she had only wiped herself down with a wet cloth while staying at the physician’s house. Although it had helped her feel a little cleaner, it was nowhere near enough.

Now that she was back home and had finished her work, she wanted nothing more than to wash away all the dust and sweat clinging to her skin.

With that thought, Heena picked up a clean change of clothes and walked out into the courtyard.

Then she stopped.

A moment later, she slowly raised her hand and rubbed her forehead.

"Damn it! How could I forget something so important?"

She had made a rather significant mistake.

This was the olden times, after all. Most ordinary households didn’t have a separate bathroom, and the concept of having a private bathing room inside one’s house wasn’t common among the people living here.

As for toilets, things were even worse. People would simply take a jug or bucket of water and find a suitable spot outside to relieve themselves. Privacy depended largely on the location they chose and how much the surrounding area was used by others.

Bathing wasn’t much different.

Women would often gather near a well, draw water, and pour it over themselves without thinking too much about it. As long as they were among other women, they didn’t consider it particularly embarrassing.

But Heena?

She needed a proper room!

She couldn’t possibly stand beside a public well and pour buckets of water over herself in front of a crowd. Just imagining it made her uncomfortable.

The problem was that her house didn’t have a well of its own. If she wanted water, she had to bring it from the public well, and if she wanted to bathe, she would have to carry enough water back home.

It was irritating, to say the least.

The large bucket of water that had been filled that morning was already empty. Ren had paid some children to help carry the water into the house, but after using it for cooking, cleaning, and other necessities, there was nothing left.

Which meant that Heena had to go and fetch more herself.

She stared at the empty bucket for a moment.

I really need to make a list of everything this house is missing.

A proper bathroom, a private toilet, a well, comfortable furniture...

The list was growing longer by the day.

Nevertheless, she couldn’t just sit around waiting for everything to magically appear. If she wanted to take a bath, she had to get the water first.

With a resigned sigh, Heena picked up the bucket and walked out.

Several people were sitting outside their houses, chatting and enjoying the evening. When they noticed her carrying the empty bucket, one of the women called out to her.

"Oh, girl! Where are you going?"

Heena raised the bucket slightly, giving it a small shake to indicate what she was after.

"Ah, water!" the woman exclaimed, immediately understanding. "Go on, go on! The water is lovely and cool at this time. It’s perfect for taking a bath!"

The others nodded in agreement.

"That’s right! The water feels wonderful after a long day!"

Heena smiled politely.

"Yes."

If only taking a bath were that simple.

She continued toward the well, her bucket swinging lightly at her side.

However, when she arrived, she discovered that the place was much busier than she had expected.

There was practically a line of people waiting to draw water. Some had brought large containers to fill for their households, while others carried smaller buckets for immediate use.

And then there were the women bathing nearby.

More than five or six women were standing around the well, some with their upper garments set aside as they poured water over themselves. They chatted casually with one another, completely unbothered by the presence of other women.

Heena stopped for a moment.

She had known that people bathed in public in this era, but seeing it with her own eyes was still a little shocking.

They really don’t care at all, do they?

She quickly looked away and joined the queue.

There was no point in standing there staring. She needed water, and the sooner she got it, the sooner she could return home and take a proper bath.

Unfortunately, the queue moved painfully slowly.

One person would fill a container, another would struggle with a heavy bucket, and someone else would take their time washing something near the well. By the time Heena finally reached the front, nearly twenty minutes had passed.

At last, it was her turn.

She placed her bucket down, grasped the rope, and lowered the attached bucket into the well.

Then she began pulling.

Almost immediately, pain shot through her wound.

Her grip faltered for a fraction of a second, and the rope nearly slipped from her hands.

Heena tightened her fingers around it at once.

For a brief moment, her expression changed. A sharp flicker of pain flashed through her eyes, bright and sudden, like a spark of fireworks in the darkness.

She blinked, forcing the sensation away.

Damn it. Not now.

Taking a steady breath, she continued pulling the rope, careful not to put too much strain on her injured body.

Finally, the bucket emerged from the well.
