Chapter 1162: Ch 1162: Awakening of the Hero

Other than her offensive magic with the lightning element, Tatsumi was also a genius when it came to making barriers. She had a special talent which allowed her to control the barriers extremely precisely.

Because of this, not only her barriers were stronger, they actually even needed less mana than normal. And as she was able to perfectly deploy the barrier exactly where it needed to be, she was basically a walking fortress capable of protecting a lot of people at the same time.

Obviously as she was just a rank 3 magus, the strength of her barriers had a limit. Any rank 4 powerhouse was capable of easily breaking it.

But all the rank 4 bandits were busy with their opponents. So there was no one who was capable of constantly break her barriers. And this was the main reason why the number of deaths among the weaker adventurers were still under control.

Just like this, as the battle had lasted for a few minutes and all the adventurers had killed at least one bandit each, everyone started to fill a little confident.

Especially with how Shuzu was slaughtering the bandits like nothing, some even though that they might be able to end this battle all on their own without any help from the city army.

But then suddenly, one of the adventurers ended up not following Tatsumi’s order to move back. He was way too eager to show off that he did not need to follow her orders and was killed by a decently powerful bandit carrying a machete.

As his head was separated from the body and it rolled on the ground, looking at this scene, some of the other stupid adventurers starter to protest about this in the middle of the battle and started to accuse Tatsumi that she was acting to be on the side of the adventurers but was actually working with the bandits.

Obviously anyone with a working brain would understand that there was no base behind their accusations. But in this tense battlefield, this shouting did manage to distract a few people, which in turn increased the pressure that Tatsumi was feeling.

So as she used barriers with all her might to continue protecting them, one man who had been hiding himself in the battle and was acting like a rank 2 weakling made his move.

It turned out that he was a rank 4 powerhouse and was acting like a rank 2 in order to find an opportunity to kill one of the strongest among the opponents and turn the tide of the battle.

And he decided that Tatsumi was a big enough threat for him to reveal himself and get rid of her. So when Tatsumi was pushing herself to the limit in order to protect the inexperienced adventurers, he made his move and appeared beside Tatsumi in a blink of an eye.

He was extremely fast and Tatsumi was barely able to keep up with his speed. So she was definitely caught off guard by this attack.

The knife that this man was holding, it looked like a special item. And this knife was able to easily pass through the barrier that Tatsumi always kept around herself.

But just as the knife was about to make contact with her body, another defensive spell got activated. Lightning started to run all over her body and it tried to burn the attackers to death.

But as a rank four powerhouse, this man was definitely not weak. So before the lightning could deal any significant damage to him, his used his dash step again and moved away.

After a few seconds, as the lightning disappeared, he again appeared beside Tatsumi and thrusted his knife toward her throat. He was extremely fast and accurate with his thrusting.

Tatsumi tried to use another spell but this man was just way too fast. And now that all her protection measures were gone, the knife managed to go insides her throat and came out from the other side. It was definitely a lethal blow.

Before the man could enjoy this success of his, a shining punch suddenly appeared before his face. At the very last moment, he did manage to dodge it but he lost one of his ears in the process.

But he was unable to relax at all. As at that moment, some kind of bug bit his legs. He has some techniques to stop poisons from affecting him but this bug bite was exceptionally painful for some reason.

Even though he managed to endure the pain without saying anything, because of the pain, he did lose his balance a little.

And that was enough for Shuzu. A sword suddenly appeared before his face and went between his forehead very easily. The man was unable to dodge it at all.

This move was called Blink Thrust and it was one of the Shuzu’s trump cards. So far, without a massive gap in rank, no one had managed to survive this attack.

But Shuzu did not care about her killing a higher ranking individual so easily and immediately went to check on Tatsumi.

Even when Tatsumi was bleeding from her throat and was on the verge of dying, she was still maintaining her barriers for the adventurers.

Without them holding back the goons, the strong powerhouses would definitely get overwhelmed with sheer numbers. That was why Tatsumi could not allow more adventurers to die. Because that would put her boyfriend and friends in great danger.

That was the reason why even when she was about to die, she was protecting some stupid strangers she had no relation to. And as Shin understood this, something broke inside him.

Why was Tatsumi trying so hard ? Why did she need to protect useless people while she was bleeding out and dying ? Why ? Why ? WHY ?

Shin knew the answer to this question. It was because he was too weak. Because Shin was unable to take care of these shitty bandits on his own, his sweet smd caring lover had to risk her life for his sake.

Shin had been feeling complacent and proud because of his growth speed. He was one of the youngest person to reach the rank of 3 after all and was even able to fight a rank 4 powerhouse with his current strength.

But now he knew, all of that was nothing. If he could not even protect the person he cared about the most, then what was meaning of his growth ? It was completely worthless.

With this realisation, a powerful desire to grow stronger appeared in his heart. This desire was so powerful that his fate of a hero and also talents reacted to it. So following his desires, two new star souls came to be.
