Chapter 682: Chapter 682: Seriously Suspecting This Man Is Faking His Illness

And so, Mrs. Yates remained unconscious for the entire following week.

Meanwhile, Mr. Yates had been swamped with work since that day.

Between the compensation payment from the auction and Mrs. Yates’s deliberate assault charge, he was at his wit’s end.

The Yates family’s business was in the food industry.

Then, one day, a massive scandal erupted: the company was exposed for having large quantities of drugs in one of its food products. Furthermore, other products were found to contain various contaminants.

That very day, Mr. Yates was taken into custody. Across the country, every food brand associated with the Yates Group faced condemnation and investigation from the government and the public, and they were all essentially forced to shut down...

Drugs and sanitation issues in food... Sickness enters through the mouth, after all. These were matters of life and death.

The Yates family was now infamous, making headlines not just domestically but internationally as well.

Leona Grant’s contribution to this was certainly indispensable, but without Annabelle Linton’s intervention, everything wouldn’t have been exposed so quickly.

’So that’s why the Yates family suddenly became so wealthy in my past life. It was drugs all along.’

’I originally just wanted to get revenge on Vivian Yates.’

’I never thought I’d accidentally uncover all this. I’ve really done humanity a great service by getting rid of this menace.’

Annabelle Linton watched the reports on every channel, a smile playing on her lips.

’Vivian Yates, I’m just waiting for you to show your face.’

’This time, the moment you appear... I will stop at nothing to destroy you and finally get my revenge!’

"Honey, honey, I need some water!" Leona Grant’s voice called out from the room.

"..."

Annabelle Linton pressed a hand to her forehead and walked over with a dark expression.

’Damn it, I seriously suspect this man is faking it. It’s been over a week, and he’s still not better! And he’s constantly calling for me over every little thing. I’m going to lose my mind!’

’But what Annabelle found most unbearable was that he actually made her help him bathe every day. If she refused, he’d just start shouting.’

’Oh, heavens, someone please rid me of this devil!’

—

Several more days passed before Mrs. Yates finally woke up.

The first thing she remembered upon waking was what had happened at the auction.

Her last memory was of the scene where Leona Grant’s special assistant handed her a legal notice, citing a charge of deliberate assault.

At the thought, Mrs. Yates’s face suddenly went pale with fright.

’The agreement said I either had to go to court or pay 10 billion. I can’t do either of those things, can I?’

’And what about my husband?’

’Where did he go?’

As Mrs. Yates was sitting up uneasily, a large group of police officers suddenly burst in.

Before she could say a word, the officer in the lead waved a hand at the people behind him, his expression stoic. "Take her away!"

Three or four officers then moved forward to seize her.

Mrs. Yates panicked completely, screaming without a shred of her usual composure, "What are you doing? What do you think you’re doing? I’m the matriarch of the Yates family! How dare you treat me with such disrespect?!"

The officer, who had been expressionless, couldn’t help but let out a laugh. "Mrs. Yates? Heh. Well then, you can go right on being Mrs. Yates. As it happens, your husband is in jail right now, so you two can have a nice reunion!"

With that, several officers roughly dragged her out of the bed.

When Mrs. Yates heard this, her mind went completely blank.

’What did he mean, my husband is in jail right now?’

’How could my husband be in jail too? Could it be...’

Mrs. Yates had clearly realized something, and her face instantly turned deathly pale.

She began to scream desperately, "Help! Help me! I’m being assaulted!"

But no one paid her any mind.

Not giving up, she screamed, "You don’t have any evidence of what really happened! You have no right to take me away! I want to see my lawyer! I want to see my lawyer!"
