Chapter 676: Chapter 676: You’re Talking Complete Nonsense

"Annabelle Linton is my wife. The woman I swore to spend my life pampering. First you insulted her, and then you laid a hand on her. Did you think I was dead?"

Mrs. Yates looked at him, exasperated. "Leona, can’t you see she’s just putting on an act? Don’t let a vixen like her pull the wool over your eyes. What good is a pretty face? Be careful, or she’ll suck you dry before you know it!"

"Your choice of words is so absurd, it makes me question your intelligence!"

Leona Grant stared at her, his expression so cold it could freeze the world. "So, you’re saying that Annabelle Linton knew it was a family heirloom you had to have, deliberately drove up the price, then pretended to yield to you, all to make you look bad?"

"Exactly!" Mrs. Yates’s single-word reply was full of righteous conviction.

’It wasn’t easy, but he finally understands!’

"That’s just how cunning she is! Everyone thinks she’s so kind, but no one would guess she’s such a manipulative bitch!"

"You’re just spouting utter nonsense!"

Leona Grant sneered, looking at her as if she were a complete idiot. "I was the one who raised the bid to three hundred million. You only started spouting nonsense about it being a ’family heirloom’ after you couldn’t afford it, threw a tantrum, and came over here. How could Annabelle Linton have possibly known any of that? You’ve ruined a perfectly good charity gala. If I were in your shoes, I’d be so humiliated I would’ve died of shame. But you’re still out here, making a fool of yourself?!"

The peanut gallery piped up, not forgetting to kiss up a little. "That’s right, that’s right! Young Master Grant was the one who bid three hundred million. Mrs. Grant had only bid up to fifty-five million. Then the Yateses bid fifty-seven million. After that, Young Master Grant bid seventy million, they bid seventy-five million, and finally, Young Master Grant went straight to three hundred million! Mrs. Grant didn’t say a single word that whole time!"

"Yeah, that’s how I remember it too. The way she was talking, so self-righteously, almost had me confused! But Young Master Grant is really in a league of his own, dropping three hundred million just like that!"

"Ahhh... I’m so jealous of Mrs. Grant..."

In truth, it wasn’t that the onlookers were particularly chatty, but that an encounter with Leona Grant was just too rare to pass up.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They all knew that successfully getting into his good graces could lead to a single collaboration worth years, or even decades, of their hard work.

You couldn’t seek out an opportunity like this; you just had to be lucky enough to stumble upon it.

Hearing everyone’s comments, Mrs. Yates felt a pang of embarrassment.

’Right, I’d forgotten about that part.’

But what she didn’t realize was, that wasn’t the only thing she had forgotten.

The host walked down from the stage, his hands clasped professionally at his waist. He spoke in a formal tone, "Mrs. Yates, I apologize for the interruption. According to national policy, the blue-and-white koi porcelain vase you have just destroyed was successfully auctioned for three hundred million. Therefore, you are fully liable for the item.

We have already deducted the security deposit from you and your party. There is still an outstanding balance of two hundred and twenty million. We advise that you find a way to settle this payment in full before the auction concludes."

He paused, then added with a professional smile, "Furthermore, this charity gala is sponsored and supported by leaders at the national level. If you and your party intend to bid without paying, make wild claims, or shirk your responsibility, I trust you understand that you will gain nothing from it. Very well. The auction must now continue. Please return to your seat and do not wander about."

The country now had an "Auction Law" that clearly stipulated auction procedures, and all participants were required to sign a binding bidding agreement before the event.
