Chapter 675: Chapter 675: Who Doesn’t Know You’re Acting?

Annabelle looked at her, her face full of disappointment and sadness. "I don’t know what I ever did to make you hate me so much. You’ve never been able to stand the sight of me, not since we were young.

Leona and I were betrothed as children, and I used to be very close with Vivian. I knew Vivian had feelings for Leona, but I love him deeply too, and I couldn’t possibly give him up. Besides, Leona doesn’t love her. If they were together, it would have only brought Vivian pain.

I don’t have a mother, so when Vivian and I were still close, I looked up to you. But you always singled me out. Even so, because Vivian and I were such good friends, I never held it against you, for her sake.

But after Vivian and I had our falling out, you became even more hostile. Just because she’s in love with my husband, was I supposed to just hand him over? I knew I couldn’t, so I kept quiet.

But you mistook my silence for weakness. The moment you saw me today, you started calling me a vixen, calling me a bitch. What did I do to deserve being called a bitch? What did I do to be called a vixen? Is it just because I didn’t hand Leona over to her? Is that what makes me a vixen?

You claim I’m targeting you, but am I really? I liked this vase. And when you couldn’t outbid me, you said I was trying to humiliate you, that I was just trying to drive up the price on you, and that I was just flaunting my husband’s power.

You said it was your family’s heirloom. I had no idea beforehand, but the moment I found out, I conceded, didn’t I? What more do you want from me?

Just because you couldn’t afford it, that makes me a scheming bitch? Your money is money, but ours isn’t? What’s worse, not only did you slap me, but now you’ve broken the vase and are trying to pin the blame on me. Mrs. Yates, don’t you think you’ve gone too far?"

As Annabelle finished her speech, everyone exchanged glances.

’So that was it. Mrs. Yates was targeting Mrs. Grant all along simply because her own daughter hadn’t married Leona Grant.’

’Mrs. Grant is just so kind. So kind and considerate, yet she’s being bullied so horribly.’

’With her current status and how much Leona Grant dotes on her, she doesn’t have to put up with Mrs. Yates at all.’

’But she has the grace and composure not to make a scene, so she kept giving in. And in the end, she gets cursed at, slapped, and even framed.’

Everyone at the auction glared at Mrs. Yates with indignation. ’All those years, and she’s learned nothing. She has less composure than a woman young enough to be her own daughter.’

Actually, most of what Annabelle said was true. That was exactly how things had been in her past life.

Feeling everyone’s glares on her, Mrs. Yates burned with fury and roared, "Annabelle Linton, stop your shameless grandstanding! We both know what really happened! That was our family heirloom. You knew the Yates Family couldn’t compete with the Grant Family’s wealth, yet you kept jacking up the price just to humiliate us, only to put on a show of being generous at the end. Everyone can see you’re just acting!

You knew that no matter how important that heirloom is to us, we couldn’t possibly come up with three hundred million for a vase. If that wasn’t meant to humiliate us, what was? But you’re still keeping up the act! You dare say you didn’t trip me just now?"

"Enough!"

With a dark expression, Leona Grant shouted, pulling Annabelle into his arms. He stared coldly at Mrs. Yates. "Mrs. Yates, out of respect for the friendship you once shared with my mother, I have overlooked your behavior. But has your recent audacity given you the delusion that you can act with impunity?"
