Chapter 655: Chapter 665: So What If I Personally Attack You?

Vivian Yates couldn’t help but laugh, her eyes welling up slightly.

’She had finally found it. At long last.’

’Between Annabelle Linton and Chase Lynch, she was about to be driven insane.’

’After today, once I leave this place, everything will be all right.’

Filled with anticipation, Vivian Yates carefully took out the manila envelope and the recording pen.

Inside the envelope was a silver USB drive.

She turned on the recorder. It was, indeed, Charles King’s testimony.

Vivian Yates secured the two items, then stealthily returned the safe to its original spot. She closed the cabinet and left the door ajar, just as she had found it.

Back in her room, Vivian Yates plugged in the USB drive. Sure enough, it contained the video of her killing Faye Sheffield.

She excitedly secured the items and ran downstairs.

A fire had started in the east wing. She needed to go down and check on it, or else someone might get suspicious.

Just as Vivian Yates ran downstairs, she bumped right into Ashley Grant, who had also just gotten back.

With the fire, and Annabelle Linton and Leona Grant out of town, there was no one to count on. They had to call Ashley Grant to come over and take a look.

It wasn’t that Ashley Grant could actually do much. Her presence was more to act as a witness for the staff. After all, the villa was filled with valuables. If even one item was destroyed in the fire, they couldn’t afford to pay for it in a lifetime of work.

Ashley Grant shoved her hard. "Are you blind?!" she snapped.

Her eyes fell on the other woman’s pajamas, and she demanded, "The house is on fire, and you were just sleeping in your room? Annabelle Ainsworth, do you get it? You’re living in someone else’s house! My sister-in-law was kind enough to let you freeload here, but when something happens, you just sleep through it? I refuse to believe you didn’t hear a commotion as big as a fire!"

A sharp glint flashed in Vivian Yates’s eyes.

’She was the one who’d had someone set the fire. It was all a distraction to steal the evidence. She had changed into her pajamas to create an alibi, explaining why she wasn’t at the scene when it started.’

’She hadn’t figured out how to get away from here, but this was clearly the perfect opportunity.’

Vivian Yates looked at her reproachfully and said in a soft, vulnerable voice, "Miss Grant, could you please not be so harsh? I may be a guest here, but I’m a guest in my cousin’s home, not yours. I don’t understand why you can’t stand me, why you always have to pick on me."

’Oh, that does it! My temper...’

Ashley Grant kicked the nearby coffee table aside. "With an attitude like that, you think you could ever stay at *my* place?" she said with contempt. "Go to hell, why don’t you? So you *do* know I can’t stand the sight of you. Well, if you know, then get the fuck out! Are you just trying to be annoying? One look at you and it’s obvious you’re some bastard your mother had with a random tramp. You think you’re even worthy of speaking to me?"

Vivian Yates took a deep breath as tears streamed down her face. "Regarding the fire," she said, her voice choked with emotion, "I’m very sorry I wasn’t there in time to help put it out. But I really didn’t mean to."

"My cousin let me stay here, she was willing to take me in, and I’m very grateful to her. I’ve never said otherwise. But Miss Grant, don’t you think you’ve gone too far? It’s fine if you don’t like me, but why do you have to drag my parents into this? Why do you have to resort to personal attacks?"

Ashley Grant lifted her chin, her voice dripping with arrogance. "So what if I’m personally attacking you? Your mother was a whore, wasn’t she? If you weren’t a bastard, why didn’t your father ever come take you home, huh?"

"You—"
