He knew that he had to calm himself down. He knew that the reason that they had come into his office was so that they could show him that despite what he thought they were the ones that were in control and he was mistaken to think that he could stop them.

Zach longed for the day that he would no longer be targeted. For the fay that they would be able to play on an even playing field but he knew that wasn’t going to happen any time soon.

He hated the fact that they continued to target them over and over again and without mercy.

He wished that there would come a time when the people that were around him wouldn’t see him as a threat but rather they would treat him as their equal.

But instead for now that wasn’t the case at all they seemed to be looking for an opportunity that they possibly could in order for them to take him down.

He wanted to show them that they were all the same and he was no threat to them but that never seemed to be the case. Instead they found ways to target him at every chance they got as though they were intimidated by him.

They didn’t seem him as their equal but rather it seemed as though they saw him as their threat, they saw him as someone that they had to take down.

He didn’t like that fact as he only wanted them to live in peace but no matter how hard he tried that didn’t seem to work out.

As he sat in his office he tried to think of a way for him to get himself out of this. He didn’t understand how he had been able to get himself in such a situation in the first place.

He let out a sigh form his lips as he shook his head to clear his thoughts.

He knew that he would just have to find a way for him to be able to deal with all of the drama until he was able to find a permanent way out.

He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard the sound of a loud knock on his door.

He cleared his throat before gesturing for the person to step into the room.

He was disgruntled at first by them. He gulped widening his eyes when he saw that it was Carol.

"What are you doing here." He asked her and he watched as she let out a sigh from her lips before shrugging her shoulders at him and making her way over. Despite his protest she made her way over to the seat opposite him and sat down.

"I just wanted to make sure that you were okay." She said to him honestly.

She watched as he relaxed his shoulders before letting out a sigh form his lips and running a hand through his hair.

"I am fine. I am better than ever in fact. there is nothing wrong with me. why would you even begin to think otherwise." he Said to her in a hurry however he wasn’t entirely sure who it was that he was trying to convince whether it was her or himself.

She knew that he was lying and she decided to read his mind instead and she let out a sigh as she realized what was bothering him. "I know that you aren’t okay and there is something that is on your mind so how about you just say it." She said to him in a harsh tone.

She watched as he gulped briefly letting out a sigh from his lips before speeding up.

"It is just that this inspection was unnecessary. I know that I checked the fire escape only a few days ago." He said to her and she hummed at him in agreement.

"Well I know that but what is the problem why is all of this bothering you all of a sudden." She asked him in confusion.

She watched as he let out a sigh from his lips. "I don’t want them thinking that they can. Come into my house any time and any way that they please. Why would they comer in unannounced and I know that the reason that they were doing it is so that they can show me that they are in charge." he said to her and he couldn’t hold back his irritation as he raised his tone towards the end.

He watched as she let out a sigh form her lips before she shrugged her shoulders at him in response. However she didn’t seem all that shocked or fazed by the revelation.

"Well what did you expect. Don’t you know why all of this is happening now." She said to him.

She watched as he looked towards her in confusion as though he were unable to understand it at all. that was the whole reason why he had come here so that he could try to make sense of it all.

"I don’t. I don’t understand why they are doing any of this." He said to her.

He watched as she let out a sigh before she ran a hand through her hair and after a moment she turned back to him with a shrug of her shoulders.

"That is the thing. Think about it. Why do you think that they would come after you now. what had changed over the last few days that would cause people to try and get in your space and try to intimidate you." She asked him.

He thought over it for a moment as he tried to make sense of it. however the only thing that could come to his mind was.

"Princess Candice." He said to her and he watched as she nodded her head at him in response.

"that is right. You got into the business battle with princess Candice and that is the reason why it feels as though the whole city now is coming after you." She said to him.

"but what does that have to do with anything. I wasn’t fighting with them. It had nothing to do with them and it wase all about her." He said to her.

She shrugged her shoulders at him before answering. "Well I don’t know for certain but think about It and think about how you would feel if you were the one who was in their position. I don’t think that you would be too happy or content with the fact that there was someone who was upstaging you and taking over the control that you had on the land." She said to him.

"Well that may be true but I have proven myself to be a good leader and a protector of the interests of the people. they should know that I am not a threat and I am not out here trying to cause any sort of harm to anyone." He said to her.

"Well they may know that but they don’t care. The reason that they had steered away from Candice was because of the fact that she was a royal and she was the one who was in charge. .they knew that they could never try to do as something that would go against her. But for you. You are just easy bait. You can be someone that they can mess around with for now until they grow bored." She said to him.

Zach thought about her words for a moment and he couldn’t deny the fact that she was right. Because princess Candice was gone he was now one do the most powerful people in the city and it meant that all of the government officials wound turn their gazes towards him.

He was about to understand or at least learn more about the intricate workings of the city and the fact that it wasn’t what it seemed to be on the surface.

"So what do you think that they want." He .said to her.

"Well I am guessing that what they want to get from you is a bribe." She said to him casually.

He was shocked by her words as he hadn’t expected her to say that. "Bribe? Are you seriously. Why would I give them bribes, they know that bribes aren’t allowed and that giving them out or collecting them is wrong and it will get you locked up." He said to her.

She shook her head at him as she let out a light chuckle from her lips. "Well you know that but it seems that you are the only one who seems to believe that. It is clear that all of the others never followed that scheme and I am sure the princess wads feeding into that and she was using the bribes in order for her to keep their mouth shut on certain matters so that they would give her as free pass of certain things."

Zach was quiet for a moment as he listened to her words and he couldn’t help but hum as he nodded his head at her when her realized that she was right.

It explained why princess Candice was able to do things without any backfires and it seemed as though she was able to get away with anything and everything.

"But why are they coming after me. I am not the only person that is running a business." He asked her with slight frustration in his tone.

He watched as she let out a sigh form her lips before she finally decided to answer him after a moment.
