Chapter 1591 -57: Meilodi’s Secret

A muffled bang sounded after a minute, and several large rocks flew up. Su Xiao crawled out from the pile of stones, his gaze scanning the surroundings. The witch hunters were no longer in sight.

Carmen, Drunkard, and Witch’s Grave were excavating on the rock pile, while the faint roar of Blood Bear could be heard from below.

Not long after, A Mu rushed out from the rocks, carrying Blood Bear.

The witches had been repelled, and as the ambushers, they fled after suffering over 60% casualties. How they would explain to others upon their return was unknown.

Carmen, Drunkard, and Witch’s Grave only sustained minor injuries, while Blood Bear was gravely wounded. Surprisingly, Meilodi was not dead; she transformed into an eagle at a critical moment to escape this ordeal.

With One-Line Sky nearly filled with rocks, Su Xiao furrowed his brows. In this battle, he had killed many witches and gained 8.2% of the Source of Exploration. As for the treasure chest, choosing its reward would mean blowing up the rock pile, several meters thick, to retrieve the chest.

After pondering for a while, Su Xiao decided to choose Curse Resistance. There was no time to clear these rocks, and choosing Curse Resistance would make the treasure chest disappear. Though he would lose some treasure chests, there was no better choice.

[Curse Resistance chosen, gaining a total of 8.9% Curse Resistance. Current Curse Resistance: 73.9%.]

Upon seeing the Paradise prompt, Su Xiao was visibly astonished. He had anticipated that the higher the Curse Resistance, the harder it would be to improve, but he hadn’t expected it to be this difficult.

Although Curse Resistance only works in the Dark Raven World, it will convert to Abnormal Attribute Resistance upon return to Reincarnation Paradise, becoming a permanent gain. Abnormal Attribute Resistance’s effect in actual combat is not lower than treasure chest rewards, influencing elements like the Five Elements, poison, and negative effects.

Though the witches from the Gate of Dawn were repelled, no joy was seen on anyone’s faces, as the white witch with prophecy ability posed a significant threat.

The group crossed One-Line Sky, now preparing to act separately.

“I seem to… can’t hold on.” Blood Bear’s face turned pale, covered with red markings.

“You used…”

“Ah, yes, I did, and I’ve reached the limit.” Blood Bear pointed at his temple, where the red markings had spiraled to.

“Do you want me to help or handle it yourself?” Carmen gripped his staff tightly, veins bulging on his hand.

“Many deaths always come with retribution. Sorry, this is as far as I go.” Blood Bear chuckled, as Meilodi stared at him in bewilderment. At that moment, Blood Bear aimed the shotgun at his own chin.

Bang!

A spray of diamonds blasted out the back of Blood Bear’s head, and he fell heavily to the ground.

Meilodi tilted her head, closing her eyes, instinctively brushing off the warm blood on her face, then looking at Blood Bear on the ground.

“Farewell.” Drunkard poured a bag of white powder over Blood Bear’s corpse, igniting a blaze with a whoosh.

“Are you out of your minds?” Meilodi was evidently disturbed, prompting Carmen to glance at her and shake his head.

“What do you think Witch Hunters represent?” Carmen stepped onto the plain ahead, as Witch’s Grave planted a crossbow arrow next to Blood Bear’s burning body.

Soon, Carmen and the others walked far away, with their destination being the Mud Altar.

“Let’s go.” Su Xiao glanced at the map in his hand. The path ahead formed a V-shape, with the Gate of Dawn as the starting point, the bottom of the V.

Meilodi looked at Blood Bear’s corpse for a while, and after her initial shock subsided, she felt admiration for the old man. Few could face death so freely.

After crossing the plains, Su Xiao entered a forest where the unique trees had trunks, branches, and leaves all in white. Being here meant the Mist Castle wasn’t far.

The Mist Castle was situated within the White Forest, but the forest spanned a vast area, devoid of beasts. All creatures here must be exterminated, as they were synthetic beasts bred by the witches.

Synthetic beasts had far superior abilities to ordinary wild beasts, especially in terms of intelligence. Most synthetic beasts weren’t cultivated for combat but served as watchdogs for the witches.

Su Xiao, Bubu Wang, A Mu, and Meilodi traversed the White Forest, barren and forebodingly cold.

“Stop.” Su Xiao suddenly halted, hiding behind a thick tree, as Bubu Wang melded into the environment, Meilodi transformed into a rabbit, and A Mu sought to conceal itself behind a tree trunk the size of a thigh.

A Mu indeed couldn’t see any enemies, but over 80% of its body remained exposed, easily visible to anyone with sight.

Poof.

Amidst the unique sound of the D·Assassin, a bipedal synthetic beast in the distance was headshot.

“Actually… I’ve always had a question?” After dealing with the synthetic beast, Meilodi returned to her original form.

“Speak.”

“Uh~ you know my combat prowess isn’t much. Bringing me to the dangerous southern part isn’t just for my knowledge of the area, right? You could easily find Mist Castle with a map.”

Meilodi voiced her doubt, aware that entering Mist Castle alongside Su Xiao could only lead to death.

“I thought you’d rather die than speak up. Seems that thing is nearby.” Su Xiao’s words made Meilodi’s heart skip.

“What do you want to know? Just speak. I truly fear you.”

“Where’s Moris’s heirloom?”

“I told you, I lost it, and it’s likely now in the hands of Mo Yi·Nora.”

“Oh?”

Su Xiao looked at Meilodi with interest; Meilodi stood proudly, showing no fear.

10 seconds, a minute, two minutes passed as Su Xiao stared at Meilodi, whose expression grew increasingly unnatural.

“You…”

Meilodi clenched her fist, and after a while, stomped her foot angrily.

“I did lose it, but…”

Meilodi reached between her ample bosom, pulling out a metal pendant.

“I chipped off a piece to carry with me.”

With reluctance, Meilodi tossed the pendant, its dark blue gemstone glowing on and off.

“The place you’re looking for within Death Land isn’t directly connected to this, but its other function is cold resistance.”

“Cold resistance?”

“That’s right, when the stone in its dagger form was intact, it had strong cold resistance.”

“…”

Su Xiao suddenly lost interest in the heirloom.

“If you wish to go ‘there’, best to wear the complete heirloom, or you’ll freeze to death. That’s all I’ll say, as I don’t wish to taste Misfortune’s curse a second time.”

“Freeze to death…”

Su Xiao pondered, holding the pendant.

“Since this is warm, it means the heirloom is nearby, very close.”

Just as Meilodi finished, a loud boom was heard from afar.

“I told you it’s close, the possible location is over there. Remember, if you get the heirloom, you need to remove the bomb from my body.”

“Deal.”

Su Xiao sprinted toward the sound source. If this wasn’t about Death Land, he wouldn’t delay. Fortunately, the Sunset Red Squad still had some distance before reaching Mud Altar, where the terrain was much harsher than the White Forest.

Besides, Moris’s heirloom was actually the Mo Yi Family heirloom, so to be cautious, it’s best to secure it. Su Xiao brought Meilodi to the southern part for this purpose.
