Chapter 1390 - 12: Fanatic
Chapter 1390: Chapter 12: Fanatic
In the dimly lit house, Su Xiao grabbed the black-robed man’s hair, the man with both arms severed stared blankly, obviously unable to accept the present situation.
"I, lost?"
The black-robed man’s Blue Steel Shadow energy dissipated inside him, the pain vanished, and his mind cleared somewhat. He first looked at Su Xiao and then at the female spy lying on the ground.
The black-robed man’s name was Spike, a member of the Divine Court in the Sun Kingdom, serving as an Archbishop within the court.
The Divine Court of the Sun Kingdom was essentially the country’s military organization, corresponding to the military of the Geya Alliance.
When resisting foreign invaders, divine authority surpasses royal authority. In peacetime, royal authority surpasses divine authority. Using biology as a metaphor, the two are in a parasitic relationship with each other. During wartime, royal authority is parasitic on divine authority, and when war ceases, divine authority is parasitic on royal authority.
Divine authority is responsible for training, leading, and governing the army, while royal authority handles finance and civil affairs. Choosing to coexist works out delightfully for both; as for one trying to swallow the other, that doesn’t happen — or at least not a second time.
years ago, the Sun Kingdom’s Divine Court attempted to eliminate the royal family and seize total power. Half a month after the royal family was persecuted, the Geya Alliance’s army directly penetrated the Sun Kingdom, with the vanguard even spotting the national flags fluttering above the Sun Kingdom’s capital.
With the sacrifice of nearly 700,000 soldiers dead in combat, the Sun Kingdom repelled the Geya Alliance. The alliance left satisfied, carrying away abundant resources from the Sun Kingdom’s lands.
After such a painful lesson, the Sun Kingdom’s divine and royal authorities went from intolerant to harmonious brothers, never discussing separation again.
The Sun Kingdom’s defeat was inevitable; soldiers were at the front lines, and sudden rear supply cut-offs naturally led to losses. If not for its vast domain, the Sun Kingdom might have been annihilated.
The Divine Court’s military hierarchy can be roughly divided into six levels:
Bishop, Archdeacon is equivalent to the lieutenant level in the Geya Alliance.
Archbishop, Bishop of Morning Light corresponds to the colonel level in the Geya Alliance.
Divine Envoy, Great Envoy - ordinary Divine Envoy has three tiers, corresponding to generals. The Great Envoy is the highest commander in the Divine Court, with hardly any combat prowess, but this generation’s Great Envoy possesses a terrifyingly strategic mind, making them the most feared opponent of the Geya Alliance’s president.
Royal family relations are much more complex, noteworthy is Skardine, the Warden of Cakbeck Prison. His wife is a Sun Kingdom princess.
Don’t find this absurd; the princess was taken by Skardine during war, and when the current Sun Kingdom King learned Skardine married the princess, he nearly died of anger on the spot.
This was a severe issue. The child born from Skardine and the princess belongs to a branch bloodline of the Sun Kingdom. The Sun Kingdom greatly values lineage, so even when Skardine was captured alive on the battlefield, they couldn’t treat him like other enemy soldiers, executing him or using him as laborer. Instead, they had to ’imprison’ him with meals and drinks.
No matter what, Skardine is the son-in-law of the Sun Kingdom royal family. Whether they wish to acknowledge it or not, it’s a fact; refusing to acknowledge it might disrupt the entire royal authority system.
What Skardine did cannot just be described as clever. The Geya Alliance cares not whom he married; his personal achievements are clear, and the princess is both a beautiful wife and a life-saving card at critical moments, provided Skardine doesn’t die directly in a chaotic battlefield.
Spike, captured alive by Su Xiao, was an Archbishop of the Divine Court, equivalent to capturing a major.
As an Archbishop, Spike lacked leadership talent, but he certainly was no weakling. The reason Su Xiao felled him in under a minute was the Dragon Slash’s sharpness. Spike originally believed that Dragon Slash couldn’t break the Power of God’s defense. Alas, after two slashes, he bade farewell to the impressive arms-crossed posture, rendering years of intense martial arts practice meaningless.
When his arms were cut off, Spike used an ability similar to divine possession, preparing to use a big move. Su Xiao, sensing this, used Dragon Shadow Flash to penetrate space, moving behind Spike, delivering a side kick to his tailbone.
If it were a drawn-out frontal battle, Spike might have about a thirty percent chance of beating Su Xiao. Unfortunately, having never seen a ’Geya person’ use a close combat weapon, when Su Xiao drew his long knife, Spike was curious about what Su Xiao intended to do, caring not as long as Su Xiao didn’t draw a gun.
Spike learned a bloody lesson: never be curious about the enemy’s ability; one should unleash their full potential in every battle.
Tick-tock, tick-tock...
Clear water dripped onto the ground, Spike’s face twitched. The 26-year-old man was already in tears, not from fear, but from frustration. In classical terms: bitterly trained for 14 years, all skill was gone in under a minute.
Su Xiao looked at Spike with surprise; he didn’t expect someone of such strength to shed tears.
"Kill me."
Spike gazed directly at Su Xiao. He was crying, yet no fear shone in his eyes — only a yearning to devour Su Xiao alive.
[Note: You are affected by the ’Tears of the Believer’ effect.]
[Blade of Mind ability activated, immune to this spiritual system control ability.]
...
Upon seeing this note, a folding knife appeared in Su Xiao’s hand.
Swoosh~
A cold gleam flashed as darkness enveloped Spike’s vision, yet he wasn’t blinded.
"Hahaha, you bastard."
Spike suddenly started laughing, laugh crazily.
"Fanatic."
Su Xiao finally realized that this Archbishop, Spike, was abnormal. Most likely, he was a fanatic within the Divine Court, not devoted to a specific god, but to the organization itself.
Two types of people are most difficult to deal with: those unafraid of death, and fanatical followers. Spike clearly belonged to the latter.
"God told me there’s light; the Divine Court conveyed this light. I stood atop the Divine Court’s hall, warning the people..."
Spike began muttering, refusing to engage with Su Xiao.
"Ah!!"
Spike screamed in agony briefly, then continued muttering.
Faced with such a character, Su Xiao had a headache. He captured two individuals alive, one a spy, the other a fanatic. Su Xiao would rather interrogate the spy than try extracting intelligence from a fanatic.
Half an hour later, a truck stopped in front of the house, with a canopy over its bed made of dark green fabric, appearing thick and heavy.
A few differently dressed men jumped out from behind the truck’s canopy. They entered the house and soon carried out two long fabric bags.
Bang.
The truck’s passenger door slammed shut, its black exhaust puffing as it moved forward slowly into the night.
