Chapter 1389 - 11: Epic Masterpiece (Fifth Update)
Chapter 1389: Chapter 11: Epic Masterpiece (Fifth Update)
The lights in the theater went out, and a black-and-white film began to play. It was a romance movie. Ten minutes into the opening, the male and female leads started engaging in some risque scenes. Su Xiao originally thought this was a purely romantic movie, but now he realized he got on the wrong train. This was clearly a romance | action film; everything that could be shown was shown, except for explicit content. The beautiful heroine was a feast for the eyes.
Half an hour into the movie, Su Xiao realized he had underestimated it. The heroine, due to a very dramatic reason, started an affair with the male lead’s best friend. During their peak of passion, the male lead made a shiny entrance and caught them in the act. This was followed by a segment that could be called an ’epic masterpiece’ of vendettas and romance. The movie reached the 50-minute mark, and the male lead chose to forgive her...
Su Xiao turned to look at a kid around twelve or thirteen years old, eagerly engrossed in the movie. He now had a new understanding of the open-mindedness of the Geya Alliance citizens. Judging by the kid’s expression, he seemed to be completely unfazed by such a movie.
Just when Su Xiao thought the movie would end with the male and female leads having a happy ending, the heroine actually ended up walking into the halls of marriage with the male lead’s friend, while the male lead was on the battlefield, bravely fighting the enemy. This turned into a war movie this time.
After an inspiring ending theme, the movie ended. Su Xiao glanced over at the traitor, who had already met with a Sun Kingdom spy. Although it lasted only 6 seconds, Su Xiao witnessed the whole thing.
Compared to the traitor, tracking the Sun Kingdom spy was obviously more important. This was the end of the line, the core of the ’mechanism.’
After watching this ’masterpiece’ of romance + action + love triangle + distorted values + war, Su Xiao got up and headed toward the screening room’s exit, following the spy at a moderate distance.
The spy wasn’t the imagined man in a suit, but a housewife. As they walked out of the theater, she was laughing and chatting with her husband, who most likely was just a civilian from the Geya Alliance. Judging from their conversation, it seemed today was their wedding anniversary, so they came to watch a romance movie together; they just accidentally stepped on a landmine and ended up watching a mishmash.
"What kind of crappy movie is this,"
The female spy’s husband was apparently disgusted, unable to understand what the movie was trying to convey. Such a bizarre movie might only find its way to theaters in the early stages of the movie industry.
"Maybe this is life; no matter what happens, life has to go on."
The female spy hooked her arm around her husband’s, and they walked down the street, their expressions natural.
"Then I would rather give up on life."
"Hmm?"
The female spy looked at her husband with a smile, and the man awkwardly smiled back. Their way home was somewhat remote, and the streetlights became increasingly sparse, with no pedestrians in sight for a long time.
"If I were that kind of woman, what would you do?"
The female spy asked a question equivalent to the classic dilemma of one’s mother and wife falling into the water at the same time.
"Of course, I would... choose to forgive you."
Her husband patted his chest, speaking falsely, with his conscience still aching a bit.
"Liar."
The female spy’s expression suddenly turned serious, the dim streetlights elongating her shadow.
"You’re lying to me, aren’t you?"
"Huh?"
The husband was obviously dumbfounded, instinctively assuming his wife’s menopause was acting up.
"Listen to my expla...nation..."
The husband’s mouth slightly opened as he looked down at his own abdomen, where a dagger was stabbed, held by a hand he knew all too well.
A bone-chilling sensation spread from his lower belly, and within two seconds, the man lost all feeling in his body. The dagger was poisoned, specifically with a neurotoxin.
"It won’t hurt at all. I’ll see you soon."
The female spy pulled out the dagger, raised her head to look at the sky, but unfortunately, at night, she couldn’t see the first light of dawn, nor could she feel her deity’s protection.
With a thud, the man fell to the ground, lifeless. The dagger in the female spy’s hand rotated, the blade flashing a glint, and she reversed her grip, aiming the dagger at her throat.
Clang!
A faint blue blade aura slashed in, and the female spy felt a chill on her shoulder before losing sensation in her entire arm.
Detecting the anomaly in her arm, the female spy clenched her teeth.
With a whoosh, a shadow leaped forward.
Crack!
A bone snapped, and the female spy got punched in the jaw. Her head turned uncontrollably, with several of her teeth flying out of her mouth.
Before the female spy could react, a metal flask was stuffed into her mouth, binding her throat.
Until now, the female spy hadn’t seen who attacked her, but she knew one thing: the attacker was terrifying, suppressing her in such a short time that she couldn’t even think of committing suicide.
The female spy attempted to struggle, but a strong impact struck her tailbone, affecting her entire spine and leaving her powerless.
Su Xiao grabbed the female spy’s throat with one hand, forced her to drink a few gulps of water, and then began observing her pupils.
The pupils didn’t show signs of dilation, indicating the female spy hadn’t poisoned herself.
Su Xiao was somewhat perplexed, unable to understand how the female spy detected him. What puzzled him even more was that, when he subdued the female spy, she seemed not to have seen him before.
The female spy first killed her husband, then chose to kill herself. It’s more like she received an order from someone rather than discovering Su Xiao. If she had spotted Su Xiao earlier, she would definitely have taken her own life immediately, instead of first killing her husband in a remote place.
Partners for decades, yet utterly ruthless when they turn on each other. That’s how spies are; their mindset has diverged from normal people, exhibiting a twisted sense of loyalty.
Su Xiao glanced at the male body on the ground. After pondering for a moment, he dragged the captured female spy into a small alley, heading toward the Hot City edge area.
Su Xiao speculated that the female spy hadn’t discovered him. Perhaps this was her final mission: to eliminate all risks around her and convey some form of intel with her corpse.
Transmitting intel didn’t necessarily need words; the location, time, wound position, and depth of the female spy’s suicide could all be used to pass on information, making it harder to crack.
Now that the female spy was captured alive, Su Xiao didn’t think those behind her would do nothing. Since he couldn’t follow the vine to find the melon, he chose to continue fishing. Besides, having captured the female spy, he knew the people under Leizong could pry open a spy’s mouth.
Moving through the night, with Su Xiao’s speed, he reached the edge of the Hot City in less than half an hour. The surrounding buildings became low and dark, in sharp contrast to the brightly lit city center.
Su Xiao arrived at an unattended house, seemingly checking the ’mechanism’ at the door, though this was his first time there.
Opening the door, Su Xiao entered the residence to wait.
A few minutes later, subtle footsteps reached Su Xiao’s ears. He glanced at the unconscious female spy, then slowly walked toward the door.
Su Xiao opened the door, and a man in a black robe and a round hat stood on the street.
"Sir, can I ask you... to die please."
The black-robed man was playing with a metal lighter, which had a symbol of the rising sun; he was from the Sun Kingdom.
Su Xiao drew the long knife at his waist. Seeing the long knife in Su Xiao’s hand, the black-robed man was surprised, then slightly amused.
"A member of the Slaughter Troop, using such a primitive weapon. Don’t you guys often scoff at us Divine Court guys for fighting unarmed?"
Clearly, the newcomer wasn’t a spy. Spies wouldn’t chatter so much nonsense.
Bang!
Dirt exploded under Su Xiao’s feet, and the long knife slashed through the night.
A minute later, the black-robed man, with both arms severed and covered in blood, was thrown into the house, his body twitching involuntarily.
Su Xiao removed an energy needle from his palm, an object entirely formed by the Light Element, with terrifying penetration power.
Su Xiao’s plan failed. He wasn’t able to follow the vine to find the melon in a spy thriller scene. Instead, he hacked the ’melon’ half to death.
Closing the house door tightly, Su Xiao crouched down, grabbing a handful of the black-robed man’s hair.
"You have two choices: one, tell me where your accomplices are, and then I’ll kill you immediately. Two, I hand you over to those in Los Zhi’s Eye. Choose."
PS: (Updating two hours early. Originally planned for six Chapters, but I couldn’t write them all. Given this, I’ll aim for five updates tomorrow, hoping to make up for yesterday’s absence.)
