Chapter 1446: Royal Court Part 6
Chapter 1446: Royal Court Part 6
"You’re taking us for some 3-year-old, Magnus?" A middle-aged man glared at Magnus.
Although the other nobles in the high seats didn’t say anything, their expression alone showed that they were in support of the middle-aged man.
Who didn’t know that Xu Feng’s promotion to a viscount was possible because of Magnus’ recommendation?
Even if someone had war horses to donate, they still needed a proper channel to deliver the news and products.
And Magnus was precisely the one responsible, which instantly caused his status to also rise. Of course, his status was already high due to Star Falls City, but this contribution was on another level.
So, because of Xu Feng’s choice of whom to contribute, Magnus became nearly untouchable.
Yet Magnus claimed to know nothing about Xu Feng.
What kind of joke was that?
"I’m being serious." Magnus clicked his tongue. "If you don’t believe me, then you can discuss it with Emperor Aether."
Emperor Aether was the ruler of the Aetheria Empire and was an entity whom many had to respect. Aside from his strength being near the top, his connection also spanned across every land.
One could say that his ruling had surpassed his predecessors.
Had it not been for his competence, the lands under the Aetheria Empire would have long fallen to the unexpected Colossus invasion. After all, there had already been some lesser empire forces that had fallen due to internal and external trifles in the past decades.
As for those empires that remained strong, they were still struggling.
The Colossuses rarely enter the war, and always use the nearby monsters who submit to them to swarm at their base.
And because of the abundance of monsters in the wilderness, the battle of attrition was always to the Colossuses’ advantage.
While the rest were disgruntled at Magnus’ action of using Emperor Aether’s name, the judges finally beckoned for Xu Feng.
"Silence!" One of the judges who emitted the power of Tier 5 exclaimed.
In the blink of an eye, the crowd shut their mouth, including Xu Feng.
As much as he wanted to be unruly, a Tier 5 powerhouse wasn’t something he could provoke too much.
Moreover, Xu Feng recognized who this Tier 5 Judge was.
’Judge Olivia...’ he thought to himself. Although Olivia was a woman, not a single person in the courtroom dared to underestimate her.
Besides being a powerhouse herself, her beauty and known conduct had garnered her many fans.
Even now, the audience, specifically the young men who followed their families, was barely capable of controlling themselves from admiring Olivia.
It was extremely rare for them to see Olivia because she rarely handled any cases.
And when she does, the courtroom is usually restricted to certain people.
After all, Olivia didn’t want to be glanced at like some piece of art and instead wanted people to focus on the case and evidence being presented.
Therefore, this was an extremely unprecedented incident in which the case she handled was made public due to the severity and concern.
Shortly after the courtroom was silenced, Olivia’s gaze landed on Xu Feng.
"The accused, Viscount Lin Feng. Please step forward to the stand and touch your hand on the orb." Olivia instructed.
"The orb is a special design item that detects any residual or presence of a Colossus. Of course, that is not to say that anyone with the residual is automatically allied with them. It’s just a measurement to see how much contact you have with them." She explained professionally.
Xu Feng nodded and approached the orb. His leisure behavior made others question whether he was truly guilty or not.
Had it been anyone else, even if they were innocent, they would still have had a nervous breakdown.
A few seconds later, he extended his hand and touched the orb. The orb hummed a soft sound before changing color.
From bright green to dark green.
During this process, the spectators held their breath as the color green slowly shifted to that of yellow.
"I knew it!" One noble who couldn’t resist their excitement shouted loudly. "He really colluded with the Colossuses!"
Given that the orb was usually colored green for those who never interacted with Colossuses or dark green for those who had a brief contact, the color yellow spelled a different story.
It meant that they had not only interacted but had also been in close proximity.
Even Judge Olivia furrowed her brows slightly when the bright yellow turned to dark yellow.
If the color continued to shift into bright red, then that was no different than being guilty.
’Did those fencesitters really get it right?’ Olivia was pretty certain that the accused had gained hatred for their rapid promotion from some nobles.
But given the circumstances and sensitivity, she still chose the judge role to make a statement. If the accused was indeed innocent, then she would make sure the accuser faced her wrath.
However, if the accused was indeed guilty, then she would make sure Xu Feng would feel that death was a light sentence.
And currently, the state wasn’t looking good for Xu Feng.
In what seemed like an eternity, the orb hovered between dark yellow and bright red—a little mix of both.
Almost immediately, the courtroom descended into a suffocating enclosed room.
"Hah, I can’t believe he really is a traitor!"
One of Duke Marvin’s people exclaimed loudly and began pointing fingers at him.
Like a chain of dominoes, the entire crowd erupted into chaos, with many pointing their fingers at him.
"Execute the Traitor!"
"This is blasphemy! How dare a traitor like him get promoted to a Viscount?"
"What a scandal!"
Olivia frowned at the escalating situation. Without hesitation, she quickly held the gavel and slammed it a few times on the desk.
"Order order order!" Olivia said it three times.
Although some still wanted to clamor, they didn’t dare when Olivia glared at them directly.
Naturally, it wasn’t physical glare, but her mana presence that threatened anyone who attempted to disobey her.
While the atmosphere turned silent, Xu Feng remained still. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to talk, but he knew that without Olivia’s permission, it would be equivalent to earning a bad rapport.
’Sigh, this is what it’s called being an ant.’ He sighed inwardly, having not expected Olivia to actually be the judge this time.
