Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 1443: Royal Court Part 3

Chapter 1443: Royal Court Part 3

"What is against the protocol?" As the Captain of the Royal Guard, Jace was fairly certain that the secret passage’s lowest criterion was a Viscount.

Besides the noble rank, some individuals with significant influence could also walk through the secret passage.

And for someone of Jessica’s status, she was more than qualified to enter.

After all, Star Falls City’s overall economy was in the top 10 within the Aetheria Empire.

Top 10 was even an understatement considering the massive potential Star Falls City had, especially when it was recently promoted to a Primate City.

"I don’t know what else to tell you." The guard ignored Jace’s exclamation and shrugged.

"Due to the sensitive time, the requirement had been increased. I have no control over it."

He continued, cleverly using the Colossus’ invasion as an excuse for the new changes.

It was such a flawless and logical reason that Jace nearly believed it if it weren’t for the fact that he knew how bullshit it was.

"You—" Just when Jace was about to continue the argument, Jessica suddenly stepped forward.

She had been silent for a while now, but she had finally decided to take over.

"Those words... Can I take it as an interpretation that the Aetheria Empire refuses to acknowledge Star Falls City and its contribution?" Jessica stared at the guard with a calm expression.

Despite the calmness in her tone, the guard quickly regretted acting too hasty.

’Shit, I’ve forgotten about this receptionist.’ The guard cursed inwardly. While he could easily alienate Xu Feng because of his accused status, he couldn’t possibly do the same to Jessica.

Even though she might be just a receptionist, the mere fact that she belonged to the Adventure Guild and represented Star Falls City was not something he could touch.

The Adventure Guild was a neutral power, but everyone knew better than to offend a receptionist there, especially when one was very reputable and influential.

The guard gritted his teeth and decided to throw away all pride and shame. "You can naturally enter, Lady Jessica. But not him!"

As long as he permitted Jessica, there would be no problem.

’This sly guard...’ Jace was also rendered speechless by the guard’s quick thinking feet.

Jessica also frowned and was about to lash out. However, before she got the chance to do so, Xu Feng lightly patted her shoulder.

She turned around, only to see him winking at her, almost as if he was telling her to let him handle it.

Without a choice, Jessica decided to take a step back.

’I’ve never won against him in a verbal fight. This guard is probably nothing to him.’ She thought to herself.

Shortly after Jessica gave the stage to Xu Feng, the latter smirked at the guard.

"You’re saying the secret passage is only accessible to those in the Count rank and above, or those with significant influence. Is that correct?" He asked the guard.

"That is correct!" The guard nodded with a resolute expression.

"Haha!" Almost immediately, Xu Feng started laughing loudly. His laughter reverberated in the area and lasted for quite a few seconds before he snapped.

"Since you confirmed my question, why hadn’t you let me pass?"

"Huh? But you’re just a Viscount, not a Count!"

"I know that. I’m not saying I have access from the nobility rank, but rather from the significant influence I have."

"W-what?" The guard was quickly startled by Xu Feng’s words. He was about to debunk his so-called influence, but was a little bit too late.

"Have you not seen the crowd outside?" Xu Feng questioned coldly.

The guard trembled at the sudden chillness in the atmosphere.

However, Xu Feng gave no qualms and continued to deliver a series of speeches.

"And have you not seen the type of people sitting inside right now? They’re all waiting for me to show up. If that’s not having a significant influence, then who else has? It can’t be your mother who decided to carry you for 9 months before giving birth to you, right? Although your mother should be commended for being a noble Teresa, you are a disgrace on the other hand, being a lapdog for another person."

At this moment, the guard’s face had twisted into an ugly expression.

Other than the fact that he was directly insulted for being a lapdog, he couldn’t refute his other harsh words.

While it was impressive how Xu Feng silenced the haughty guard, Jessica couldn’t contemplate his motive.

Was there really a need to have such a long debate with the guard?

’What is he up to?’ She found it hard to believe Xu Feng would be wasting his time on a lowly guard dog for the secret passage.

Sometime later, the guard was basically gobsmacked by Xu Feng’s argument that he fell on his butt.

He couldn’t resort to violence either because Xu Feng was ultimately still a Viscount. Moreover, he hadn’t been handed the guilty verdict, which meant he was still innocent until proven guilty.

"Just go..." The guard relented. He feared that his life would chip away if he continued to argue with him. In fact, he wanted him gone already.

If anything, he could just shove all the blame on Captain Jace, who led them here through the secret passage.

"Hmm, didn’t you say I’m not qualified?" Contrary to the guard’s expectation, Xu Feng didn’t walk away and calmly asked about the criteria.

"You—!" Unable to handle the humiliation, the guard began to foam and fainted on the spot.

"Huh?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow. "He really fainted?? How weak is his mentality?"

The guard’s reaction was completely out of his expectations.

"Just what were you trying to achieve?" Jessica approached him with a baffled look. "It can’t be that you really got offended by this guard’s action, right?"

"Of course, not." Xu Feng chuckled softly.

"I’ve merely wanted to use this guard as a debate practice tool for the upcoming court." He explained.

After all, the court hearing was never about evidence, but whose verbal argument was more convincing.
