Chapter 1422: Sunrise Inner City Part 39
In the wide open field, Xu Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly as he watched his members collapsing on the floor.
They were all in a deep slumber.
The music that emitted from all corners was affecting everyone, including him.
Luckily, he had the Origin Power active to ward off the music from penetrating him too deeply, enabling him to break free of the illusions.
It was just a pity that his members weren’t that lucky and were immediately ensnared by the music.
"Hopefully, my voice could reach through them." He took a deep breath and sighed.
At that moment, another member suddenly twitched violently, their health points rapidly falling from 100 to 0.
"Another one has fallen." Xu Feng shook his head and wielded his staff.
Soon, the body began to burn under his spell.
This wasn’t being cruel.
If he didn’t burn them, then the music illusion would take over the body and attack him alongside the other slumber members.
Only through burning could the magic illusion be killed and the original body returned to normal.
This was already the fifth one to fail the illusion test.
Xu Feng didn’t plan to revive them right away because the music had yet to stop. Even if he did revive them, the music would once again impact them to fall into an illusion.
Such a situation would become a never-ending cycle.
And he wasn’t foolish enough to allow that to happen.
Moreover, this illusion test was also a good probing test for him to see who had a higher mental concentration to not be fooled by the illusion.
Of course, he also gave them a little help by giving some advice in hopes they would break through.
After all, he did play a bit dirty by not informing them of the second stage.
But trust, it was all for their own good.
Whoever could break out by themselves would receive extra GMP as a reward because they were worthy of being nurtured further.
Although Xu Feng emphasized fairness, when some people with extremely high talent were found, they deserve some tiny bit of benefits over others.
’Talented people require fewer resources to nurture. I sure know how to calculate.’ He felt proud of himself.
People often have such a bad misconception that the more talented the people are, the more resources they should pour into them.
But seriously?
If they were truly talented, then the bare minimum resources should be enough for them to rise. Otherwise, all that talk of being talented here and talented there was nonsensical.
Amidst his sneaky thoughts, someone finally awakened.
"Guild Leader?" Carmen rubbed her forehead slightly, her eyes somewhat hazy.
Xu Feng waved his hand and was about to say hi until he detected killing intent.
’Hmm?’ Startled, he quickly realized Carmen must have still thought she was in an illusion.
Just when he was about to put up a barrier, Carmen already appeared behind.
"Damn!" Xu Feng hissed and wanted to counterattack.
But she pulled off a very unexpected move. She wrapped her arms around his waist and squeezed him tightly.
He was nearly squeezed dry of oxygen when Carmen dropped a bomb on him.
"Do you still think I’ll fall for the same illusion tricks like the previous time?" She clicked her tongue and asked coldly. It wasn’t her first time being hit with an illusion, and it certainly wasn’t the first time she had mistaken him for an enemy.
"Hah, so you were playing me." Xu Feng smiled awkwardly. He came to a realization that she wanted to see how much trust he had in her.
And clearly, he had failed miserably by trying to react counteractively.
"Who told you to keep underestimating me?" She pouted and finally released her grip.
"Hmm, why are there burned bodies?"
It was at this moment that Carmen’s nose was affected by the burn smell, and she noticed there were two different sets of bodies.
"The burned bodies are those who failed to pass the illusion and needed to have their corpse burned to avoid being possessed." He calmly explained, his eyes shifting to another body that began twitching violently.
Without hesitation, he cast wind spells to push them toward the burned pile and do the same to it.
Carmen watched the scenes with wide-open eyes.
"I-If Veronica fails as well, are you going to burn her up, too?" She asked in a dismayed tone.
Out of everyone in the slumber party, she was only concerned about her bestie.
Upon hearing that, Xu Feng hurriedly shook his head.
"Of course, not!" He cleared his throat and clarified. The only reason he burned the bodies was that it was the most efficient and fastest method.
’If Veronica learned that I burned her up, then wouldn’t she just dump all the paperwork on me?’ He had escaped the paperwork task.
Xu Feng refused to bring himself to do that kind of work again. Hence, he must cherish Veronica dearly.
Nodding in agreement, Carmen sat on a tough voidling and began to relax.
"I’ll take a rest then." She said gently.
Through the illusion, she had actually gained some insight and was now trying to compress the information.
In the meantime, Xu Feng continued to separate the failure and success players.
Thankfully, the success rate seemed to have taken a turn for the better.
The one who failed first was probably the lowest tier among their group, as opposed to those who were still fighting in their illusion.
Just like that, a little bit over 10 minutes had gone by, and all those who passed held smiles on their faces. Needless to say, passing the illusion really does grant them benefits.
Xu Feng also revived the burned bodies and told them not to worry too much.
Just because they failed once didn’t nullify their achievement or strength.
Instead, they simply had to work harder on their mental concentration.
"I reckon it won’t be long before you all will have high mental concentration." He consoled everyone and informed them that this was just a mini test.
The real boss was still up ahead: the main source of the instrument.
