Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 1071: Upgraded Scale

Chapter 1071: Upgraded Scale

As Xu Feng collected all the requests, he promptly returned to Arthur’s side.

He noticed Arthur was staying by Burpe’s side and surrounded the latter with numerous protective runes. It was clear that Arthur still wasn’t reassured of Burpe’s safety and added more security measures.

"Oh, you’ve returned already?" Arthur sounded a bit surprised to see his return so quickly.

"Uh, yes, I’ve returned." Xu Feng smiled awkwardly and scratched his head.

He then explained his reason for returning. "There were many places that the Phantasm Fish required me to travel to, so I was wondering if I could use the warship to assist me."

The truth was that Xu Feng was wary of the sea monsters and felt safer with the warship by his side.

After all, he would be a fool to not utilize all the available tools to make his life easier.

Why should he try to swim alone when there were many sea monsters waiting for him outside?

They were all high-level, and not one of them was easy to kill unless he got the hydro cannons with him.

"I see..." Upon hearing the explanation, Arthur understood his intention.

Unfortunately, he had no choice but to reject his desire. "It’s not that I want to forbid you from using the warship, but the Beacon Shrine wouldn’t recognize your effort if you used external tools except for the acceptable items."

"Acceptance items?" Startled, Xu Feng didn’t expect there to be more hidden rules.

"Mhmm, the scales of our species are unique and inherently special. They offer many effects, but since you have just accepted their missions. The scales remain veiled and could not be utilized." Arthur calmly explained the circumstances.

In summary, the process was similar to his scale, which required unveiling to reveal its true functions.

And for the unveiling process to commence, the condition was that Xu Feng must satisfy the Phantasm Fish’s request.

Because Arthur’s request was to only learn about Burpe’s story, Xu Feng was able to complete it on the spot.

However, all of the other Phantasm Fish’s requests required him to venture outside to complete.

"But how am I supposed to face those sea monsters?" Xu Feng flashed a bittersweet smile. Without the hydro cannons, he was quite helpless if he were to encounter even one of them.

"Ah, right. You are indeed quite under level for the prophesied Sea Traveler." Arthur commented.

He didn’t intend to speak about the matter to avoid dampening the Sea Traveler’s emotions, but after some conversation. Arthur realized the Sea Traveler’s mentality was not to be taken lightly.

"Yeah, I haven’t been able to receive many opportunities to improve myself."

"That’s alright. Even I get occupied sometimes and can’t help my fellow mates out."

After some more conversation, Arthur asked for his unveiled scale back.

"Here’s the scale, Sir Arthur." Xu Feng readily retrieved it from his inventory and handed it over to him.

Soon, Arthur opened his mouth and released some bubbles.

Seeing the bubbles appearing, Xu Feng subconsciously took a few steps back.

Having witnessed these harmless bubbles dealing an insane amount of damage, it was best to be cautious.

"There’s no need to be worried, Sea Traveler."

Arthur was amused by Xu Feng’s cautiousness and explained, "Our bubbles don’t do damage to you. Its effect is only to purify the impurities of the sea monsters. The sea monsters are all corrupted and polluted by the abyssal tide, which is why they were eliminated rapidly upon encountering our purification water."

"You mean the sea monsters were corrupted beings?" Alarmed, Xu Feng didn’t expect to receive some critical information out of the blue.

"Mhmm, those sea monsters were originally Phantasm Species. Unfortunately, the changes in the Phantasm Sea and the war for the Sea Heart polluted the sea. Those incapable of resisting or failing to retreat in time became corrupted." As Arthur continued to explain their origin, his tone was filled with sorrow and bitterness.

It was clear that he had personally witnessed many of his kind turning into unrecognizable beings.

Meanwhile, Xu Feng calmly absorbed this knowledge and kept it in mind.

None of the words Arthur uttered were unintentional or casual. Instead, it was the system’s way of relaying information to him once he triggered a specific point.

’The sea monsters were corrupted by the abyssal tide, but this beacon shrine is labeled an abyssal tide beacon. This can’t be a mere coincidence.’ The more Xu Feng pondered it, the greater his curiosity and concern.

This Sea Traveler role appeared to be more of an errand runner rather than a savior.

A few minutes later, Arthur finished modifying his scale once again.

"Alright, the scale can help conceal your presence as long as you don’t make any offensive moves." Arthur returned the scale to Xu Feng and warned solemnly.

"But keep in mind that your presence might be concealed; it’s not protected. This means that if the sea monsters happen to attack you while you are in concealment, you will be exposed. It’s best to remain cautious and vigilant at all times."

"I will." Xu Feng grasped the scale and placed it back in his inventory. The scale itself was in effect as long as he was in possession of it, whether it was in the open or not.

"I’ve said enough already. I shall give you a lift."

In the next instance, Arthur blew at Xu Feng. It was a soft blow, but Xu Feng was instantly propelled away.

Given the sea depth level of their current spot, Arthur figured it would take a while for him to swim away, so he decided to give him a hand.

Xu Feng felt his head turning somewhat light from the turbulence.

Nevertheless, he quickly composed himself and spotted a few sea monsters camping right by the entrance of the Phantasm Fish’s habitat.

’Geez, do these monsters have nowhere else to go but become a camper?’ Xu Feng rolled his eyes and carefully swam past them. At first, he was hesitant about Arthur’s Scale being ineffective, but the hesitance was wiped out when the sea monsters didn’t even turn in his direction.
