Chapter 1977: New Special Items
Chapter 1977: New Special Items
—–
“W-Wait, you can’t eat them all! You’ve been just fine without souls…!” I tried to stop Red as he approached with his many bodies.
“Calm down, Sylphy, it’s okay,” Alice said. “You don’t need to worry. They shouldn’t grow into monstrous forms if they eat these Soul Orbs. They aren’t complete souls, at least not fully.”
“R-Really? Well, okay, you can have a couple,” I offered Red two Soul Orbs. His main body devoured them, while the other bodies licked their jaws as if they had tasted them too.
Then Red gained a glowing aura of soul essence and seemed incredibly happy. He jumped around like crazy. Honestly, he made me chuckle a little—he was the cutest true demon.
With seven left, I wondered whether to absorb them or save them. “I wonder if I should just absorb them or… can I use them for something else?”
Alice analyzed the Soul Orbs in silence for a couple of seconds. “I’m fairly sure they’re also materials. You’ll have to balance between saving some and consuming some. But honestly, you should absorb all of these right now. Boss Soul Orbs are much more valuable, and you shouldn’t waste them on anything other than yourself. After all, your soul and body are the priority.”
“You think so? Well, alright,” I nodded and quickly began absorbing each Soul Orb one after another. “Ooh! Ahh…! Woah!” Every time I absorbed one, a surge of pulsing power coursed through my body and soul as my soul grew larger and expanded further around me. “T-This is amazing…! It feels so nice.”
After consuming all the Soul Orbs, I felt my soul growing so strong that it expanded around my body as an aura for a moment before I slowly reabsorbed it. “Huh, nice! Now… Oh?!”
And then it happened.
FLUOSH!
My Psyche within my Soul grew stronger, overflowing with elemental and soul energy. I felt more refreshed, and my soul felt capable of withstanding much greater pressure, meaning I could sustain more Mana continuously.
[You [Psyche]: [Tier 5: Rank 1: God Devouring Infernal Abyssal Thunder Demon Soul Psyche] has Ranked Up to Tier 5: Rank 2]
[Your Soul Vitality, Strength, Fortitude, Endurance, and Regeneration have grown considerably.]
“Nice! Not bad. Little by little we’re getting stronger!” I said happily. “Alright, now the elephant in the room… the big treasure chest I got… what is this?”
I opened my inventory and took it out, examining the treasure chest in silence before touching it. The chest trembled and then slowly opened, revealing its contents.
[You have opened the [Boss Monster Treasure Chest (S Grade)]!]
[You have received the following contents]:
[Frozen Forest Spiritual Heart Crystal (S Grade)]
[Permafrost Forest Ruler’s Spirit Armor (S Grade)]
[Shapeshifting Cursed Spirit Frost Weapon (A Grade)]
[Lesser Soul Orbs (C Grade)] x10
[Spirit Orbs (C Grade)] x10
“Huh, this is interesting…” I said, inspecting the items. “More Soul Orbs, but these are as small as grapes. And Spirit Orbs? I assume they do the same but for Spiritual Energy. But what about the rest?”
I quickly touched the armor. It was a full-body set made of powerful spiritual energy. When I made contact, I felt a spiritual connection, and it suddenly transformed into dozens of pieces that covered my entire body.
“Oh!”
I was surprised that, from one moment to the next, I was clad in tight, lean, slender, and beautiful frost armor decorated with rose- and vine-shaped carvings. “It’s beautiful! And it exudes the spiritual power of the Dryad Boss.”
“Indeed, it’s quite a nice piece of armor,” Alice nodded. “Are you going to keep it?”
“I don’t know. I already have my own armor, but it seems I can equip this on top,” I said. “Maybe it could help me take hits better, because that Dryad was beating my ass…”
“Hah! An armor made of ice?! It’s not even compatible with you! Perhaps it would suit Aquarina better. I can tell she would resonate with it more,” Armageddon said. “You will ultimately destroy it by melting it. Your flames are incompatible with it—spiritual armor or not, it can still break.”
“Ah, that’s not good though…” I nodded. “And yeah, it’s really cold. This icy energy contradicts my fire and weakens it… Guess it’s not for me. I’ll save it for Aquarina.”
I unequipped the armor and stored it away. Afterward, I examined the weapon. At first glance, it was a single beautiful frozen rose with a long, spiked stem—that was it. “Huh, this one’s quite interesting. So it’s shapeshifting? Let’s see…”
By infusing it with Mana and Spiritual Energy, the rose suddenly transformed, growing vines, spikes, and flowers everywhere until it took the shape of a long sword made of corrupted purple ice.
“Oh, a sword form! Wait, it’s a shapeshifting weapon so…”
I tried transforming it again. It could become an axe, a hammer, a spear, and even a knife. I was quite amazed by everything it could create. The weapon was a Spirit Weapon, so it was fairly strong and interesting… maybe I could use it as a material for Scarlet? I hadn’t considered it before, but the armor might work for Sapphire. Yeah.
“It’s nice, but I guess it’s not as strong as Scarlet, and it might break with overuse,” I said. “Scarlet, what do you think about using it as a material for your evolution?”
“That sounds good. It’s a strong weapon,” she said. “I also want that…” She pointed at the large, watermelon-sized spiritual heart of azure, blue, and purple hues. “I think I can grow stronger with it!”
“Oh, the Spiritual Heart…” I nodded. “Did the corpse drop something similar?”
“No, it was destroyed,” Alice said. “There are just ice fragments of the boss left—nothing really valuable…”
“Ah, so there’s just one,” I said.
“Scarlet, you’ve always been more fire-themed. Why not let me use that heart instead?!” Sapphire argued. “You always get the best materials!”
“Hah?! Well, I’m the sword here! I do all the work! You just sit down and take hits while I and Sylphy are actively battling!” Scarlet retorted. “So naturally, I deserve all the great materials!”
“Y-You’re so greedy!” Sapphire said. “I’m going to beat you!”
“Come at me!” Scarlet roared back.
Then sword and shield—both floating—started fighting each other. The shield defended while the sword struck… Yeah, I’m quite used to these girls fighting for my attention all the time.
I averted my eyes from them and looked at the Spiritual Heart, feeling its power when I touched it. “Huh? Wait, what?”
And then I felt it—it seemed I could absorb it… just like the Spirit Orbs or Soul Orbs. This Spiritual Heart could be completely absorbed, probably fusing with my existing one.
“I wonder if that’s even a good idea though? My sword and shield evolving are also a top priority…” I said, rubbing my chin. “And these materials are so rare, while I can just continue cultivating my spiritual heart without it anyway—by absorbing lots of Spirit Orbs.”
After thinking it over, I decided to save it for either Scarlet or Sapphire—I hadn’t decided which yet. Though I did decide to feed the shapeshifting weapon to Scarlet and the spirit armor to Sapphire. I wonder if they could inherit some of the power of these spiritual artifacts. That would be cool, but I won’t get my hopes too high.
“Alright, what’s next? Oh right… this.”
I looked at the crimson, fiery spirit standing next to me—Strength—who was playing around with Furoh and Ignatius.
