Chapter 1797: A New Ally
Chapter 1797: A New Ally
—–
Amidst the tenebrous Soulscape of Shade, the ant’s corpse and soul merged with Shade’s miasma and phantasmal flames, reborn swiftly as a Spectral Spirit Egg.
This was how Shade employed his Necromancy. It was less potent than Gray’s and required time to prepare, which explained why he carefully selected which beings to transform into his Spirits.
Now, Shade welcomed a new member to his Familiars. The egg cracked open slowly. With its level of power, it didn’t take long before Vulcan emerged amidst the cold flames of phantasmal and soul energies.
“T-This is…? I am not dead?”
Vulcan was shocked, gazing at the endless black abyss of Shade’s Soulscape.
“It has been many ages since another one was chosen…”
“He is rather strange.”
“A new one, huh?”
Vulcan was greeted not only by the darkness but also by voices, which gradually materialized into enormous ghostly figures. Their leader was a being of pure Death, unlike anything else, a King of Darkness and the End of All Life.
“Welcome to the Hall of Specters.”
Vulcan looked around, bewildered. He didn’t understand what had happened. Perhaps this was the afterlife, and he had truly perished.
Or…
“You’re one of Master’s new familiars, Vulcan. You amused him enough for him to let you live… past your expiration date. Most likely, he was captivated by your Warrior Heart, which surpassed even your loyalty toward your tyrannical mother.”
“…Shade did this?”
“Indeed.”
Vulcan, who had been ready to die, realized he now had a new opportunity at life, to fight alongside this incredible person, this remarkable warrior, this master of assassination.
“Thank you…”
Vulcan manifested through Shade’s Aura as the Hero of Shadows reverted to his original form. He surveyed the scene, noting that Nepheline had fought so fiercely she was now far away. His daughter was still battling her foe but nearing victory, while the kids were barely managing against the other ant.
“Vulcan, tell me now, who is that Saintess?”
“I have little knowledge myself, unfortunately. I only know she is my sister and a Saintess, Master.”
“Will you help me kill her?”
“If it is needed… I cannot really reject your decision.”
“The others are not like you. This is why I have given you another chance. Her power increases with each of you that dies. It seems your mother’s plot was for all of you to perish anyway.”
“…I see, it seems I was not wrong in abandoning my loyalty toward my mother, then.”
“There’s little time to waste. Your mother’s presence grows stronger continuously. Whatever she’s doing, we would be better off stopping her entirely.”
Shade began walking toward the Saintess, his Aura intensifying, taking the form of a spectral shadow of Vulcan.
“Pathetic… To think you would become a slave even after death… You truly believe you can do anything against me? You’re nothing but a pawn, one that has already fulfilled his purpose.”
The Saintess spoke with a ruthless voice. She viewed Vulcan as a mere pawn. In fact, she saw all her siblings as pawns. Her crimson eyes shone brightly, turning gold, as her aura strengthened. The barrier she possessed grew more robust as additional layers enveloped it.
Shade advanced toward her, his aura shifting and expanding as he merged it with Vulcan, his newest Undead Familiar, whose strength reached peak Tier 9 or perhaps Quasi-Tier 10.
“You really don’t have a good relationship with your siblings, do you?” Shade wondered.
“It’s complicated… but I suppose we don’t. We were born only a week ago. We hardly had time to interact with each other. Mother forced us to train, fight, and develop our power as quickly as possible based on our Divine Blessings. Since my birth, I was fascinated by the weapons of humans, forging them into my very soul… And now, Master Shade, I shall grant my knowledge and power to you.”
FLUOSH!
Shade’s spectral shadow aura intensified, as Vulcan’s form solidified, with all eight of his arms wielding powerful shadow and phantasmal weapons overflowing with death, darkness, shadow, phantom, and divine spirit flame elements.
Indeed, he retained the same power his mother had blessed him with, preserved even after his “reincarnation” as a Spectral Shadow Spirit.
“Very well, Vulcan, show me that my choice was not in vain. Let’s break her barrier first.”
“Yes, Master!”
Shade leaped forward, summoning two Divine Soul Weapons in both hands and striking the Saintess’ barrier. He used Dimensional Slash, one of his strongest techniques for cutting through barriers, domains, and similar obstacles, combined with his assassination arts.
The reason he avoided his Mastered Abyssal Embodiment form was clear. It consumed a tremendous amount of Mana to sustain, and Shade preferred to conserve his energy, as the Saintess was not the final challenge. The mother who created them promised to be a formidable adversary worth his full strength.
“{Abyssal Assassination Arts}: {Dimension-Cutting Abyssal Slash Barrage}”
With precise movements of his arms and his powerful daggers, augmented by Vulcan’s Spiritual Soul Weapons within his Guardian Spirit Aura, Shade unleashed a devastating barrage of shadow slashes, aiming to pierce the barrier and even space itself.
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
The Blazing Ant Saintess stared at the scene as her barriers began to give way rapidly, one after another. Not even a second had passed since Shade charged, and he was already shattering several layers at once, each layer breaking into glass-like fragments.
“Hmph, I won’t let you get any closer, lowly human.”
Her eyes shone with brilliant gold, as dozens of magic circles manifested around, above, and below Shade. All the magic circles glowed with runes of golden light, activating a potent advanced spell.
“{Divine Holy Golden Flame Spirit Formation Arts}: {Purifying Sacred Flame Inferno}!”
FLUOOOSH!
Golden flames emerged in that split surged, swirling through the empty air and forming something akin to a giant tornado of flames.
Shade’s eyes widened, as these golden flames engulfed him completely from every direction, north, south, west, and east, concentrating and compacting around his body while releasing a massive explosion he couldn’t escape from.
“What…?!”
BOOOMMM!!!
