Chapter 1774: Quetzal’s Quest 1

(A Few Minutes Ago…)

“I can sense it… Around there! Come, Agua.”

“Y-Yes!”

Quetzal flew through the skies with his powerful wings, encompassed by an endlessly swirling aura of emerald winds. He was able to move faster than when he was a giant monster, thanks to his consciousness returning.

The combination of his intelligence, mastery over his abilities, and finally returning to his true form allowed Quetzal to become not only stronger than when he was turned into a monster but also much faster.

As he fought and flew, he rapidly understood his abilities. Thanks to Khepri, he was even able to gain insight into how to use his newly discovered divine spiritual powers dwelling within his soul.

This way, he resembled a green blur as he moved through the vast Crater Oasis and its gigantic, mountain-like cliffs.

Agua’s Spirit Form could clearly not keep up with his speed, but he had thankfully grabbed her, and using her little tentacles, she wrapped them around his arm easily.

FLUOSH!

Resembling a tornado of winds, Quetzal moved through the cliffs, reaching his destination in less than a minute. It wasn’t too far from where he was previously anyway.

“It should be around here… Yes.”

His senses couldn’t betray him. What Khepri had awakened within him was now pulsating, constantly guiding him to find his “missing pieces.”

Although he wasn’t the spirit itself, something had caused the Great Spirit of the Cliff Winds to merge with him or his soul, making him both the spirit and still himself.

The spirit’s memories were now fragments, information, and images of a life he had not lived, but its senses, thoughts, and even this feeling of “hollowness” for lacking the ornaments were present.

“I wonder why the Great Spirit didn’t come to find these pieces before. He could have regained his memories and become even stronger… Maybe he would have stopped being so cruel to us too,” Quetzal sighed, walking through a cave he found, which was beautifully decorated with green crystals overflowing with Wind Spirit Energy. “Perhaps he was like the Great Oasis Spirit and simply lost his memories…” Agua said. “After all, remember that without Khepri, you wouldn’t have been able to feel where these pieces are. Maybe some key memories were needed or something?”

As she spoke, her voice was much cuter than before, and because she had the form of a little spirit, Quetzal couldn’t help but gently pat her little head.

“Yeah, you’re probably right… Well, I shouldn’t overthink it, right?” Quetzal wondered. “We’re here now… I simply need to grab these missing pieces, get stronger, and then go back with everyone to stop this calamity. It’s the least I could do to make up for the… the atrocities I must have committed in that form…”

“Quetzal…”

Agua looked at Quetzal with worried eyes. It would take a while for him to process his tremendous grief and guilt. Although he had already made progress, as before they found him, he had wished to die the moment he regained consciousness.

However, the immediate company of Agua and everyone else upon his awakening, their warm words, and the atmosphere of a family had comforted Quetzal’s heart, enough for him to no longer desire his own death… perhaps.

“I want to tell you that I’m here for you… A-And if you ever need to talk about something, I’ll listen…”

“…Thanks, Agua, it… it means a lot.”

“Hm!”

Agua nodded as she extended her little water tentacles and patted Quetzal’s head. She was so adorable that Quetzal resisted the urge to hug her and squeeze her little slime-like body.

“But this place… There are no winds here, but it’s full of green crystals…” Quetzal said, looking around curiously. “Agua, do you know what these are?”

“You don’t know? These are known as Wind Spirit Crystals… or Stones. They’re large crystallizations of Wind Attribute Spirit Energy,” Agua explained, touching one. “They’re rich and high quality too! Amazing… You could say they’re High Wind Spirit Crystals. Their value is incredible. To think there was such a large deposit of them here…”

“Could it be because of that ’missing piece’?” Quetzal wondered.

“Most likely… It probably exudes a lot of wind spirit energy naturally…” Agua said. “But… Hmmm… I can detect many large lifeforms here. This cavern is likely not without its inhabitants! No living being would miss out on all this spirit energy. Many living beings consume these crystals, after all.”

“Yeah, I can feel them nearby as well…” Quetzal nodded, walking through the long corridor of the caves, which opened into a large, open cavern, several hundred meters wide, dimly illuminated by the crystals and some glowing mushrooms.

“Can you feel where the missing piece is?” Agua asked him.

“Yes… over there,” Quetzal pointed into the distance. “It should be inside that… is that a cube?”

“Huh?” Agua looked into the distance, noticing the giant metallic cube sitting there. “Eh? There’s really a huge cube made of metal…?”

To their surprise, a massive cube, about ten meters tall, sat in the middle of the cave, surrounded by a crater-like formation. There was also a hole in the ceiling, though it was filled with crystals.

“Perhaps it once fell here, but the crystals eventually closed the hole completely…” Quetzal said. “Let’s go before these monsters find us.”

“Yeah!” Agua nodded.

The two rushed toward the metallic cube, feeling some sort of energy leaking from it.

As Quetzal drew closer, green light glowed through the cube, shaped like circuits.

FLASH!

“It’s reacting to you, Quetzal!”

“I know…!”

Quetzal extended his hands, about to touch the cube and find out what it was…

But…

“SHYAAAAGGH!”

FLUOSH!

A powerful gust of wind hit him directly, sending him flying in the opposite direction with Agua by his side.

CRASH!

“Ugh…!”

Quetzal collapsed into a pile of crystals, shattering them into pieces. Slowly, he stood up, finding himself surrounded by a group of strange-looking creatures.

“I suppose I won’t be able to get to it without a fight…”
