Chapter 1750: The World’s Defense Mechanisms

“W-What do you mean?” Aquarina grew worried.

She looked at Undine, whose face seemed very concerned about the future that awaited these two girls. What Sylphy might have done could have looked simply and just inconsequential to most normal people, but it was much more than she imagined.

“Sylphy has pretty much announced her existence as a Goddess to the world. Most normal people won’t notice anything, perhaps not even your parents. But Spirits… and other Gods, they all know now,” Undine sighed. “And you know what happens with Gods that aren’t part of their Pantheons, right?”

“T-The Evil Gods?” Aquarina asked.

“Yes, they’re usually chased down, hunted, and so on, so they go to hide… What’s worse, now every Evil God in the world probably knows about her too, and might, at some point, attempt to take her divinities,” Undine said.

“W-What?!” Aquarina gasped. “As if it wasn’t bad before… Fuck…”

“It’s… maybe not as worse as I am imagining,” sighed Undine. “Her presence is very small compared to others; most might just not care. Nowadays the Gods are much more inactive, they don’t go hunt or chase after the Evil gods as much as they did in the past. Perhaps they think it’s simply no longer worth the effort or trouble anymore.”

“Sylphy…” Aquarina sighed. “E-Even then, there’s a chance that they might come after her?!”

“Well, weren’t they already kind of doing that? She told you about her dungeon’s invasion and all, the Evil God of Dungeons is already intent on killing her… and all of you,” Undine said. “Perhaps this won’t change much at all… after all, he leads most other Evil Gods.”

“R-Right…” Aquarina muttered, gripping her fists tightly. “As her Saint, I have to get protect her… I have to get stronger.”

“Well said,” Pyuku nodded. “Falling into despair is pointless at this point. For now, I think you should give these two some names, don’t you think?”

Pyuku pointed at the kitten and the wyrm egg, which were chasing each other playfully…

The Wyrm Egg was supposed to be just a monster egg, but thanks to Sylphy it had evolved into something completely different now.

And that kitten-like spirit was also incredibly unique, born from Sylphy’s divine blessing, it was pretty much the embodiment of their bond.

“One thing is for certain,” Undine said. “The Gods and the Evil Gods can’t just walk towards Sylphy and you and beat you two or something. If it was so easy for them to do that, they would’ve already done whatever they wanted with this planet’s lifeforms, right?”

“A-Ah, yeah…” Aquarina nodded. “So they can’t just go and do it?”

“Of course not, there are limitations to these beings, due to their existences being so potent, the world itself rejects them. Also, because of their great power, they need to remain within areas of equal levels of power, so they don’t weaken over time. Hence why the Gods are usually contained within their Divine Realm. Choosing not to interfere isn’t just a choice, it’s a necessity.” Undine explained. “Evil Gods are freer though, in exchange for no longer being supported by the Pantheons and their many resources, they wander the world seeking to accumulate Faith through Fear, sometimes picking corrupted, evil people as their apostles, to spread more fear and offer sacrifices, often souls, to them.”

“Huh…” Aquarina nodded. “So that means… that Gods aren’t that strong then?”

“They are… Never underestimate a god,” said Undine. “They could go after you or Sylphy, descend and… kill you. But that would immediately weaken them and then bring the wrath of the other Gods watching, and perhaps even the planet’s self-defense mechanism. This is why they prefer vessels to do their bidding.”

“Self-defense mechanism?” Aquarina asked. “W-What’s that?”

“Why do you think the Gods were never able to completely conquer this world?” Undine sighed. “This planet, Terrarium, is alive. It has many self-defense mechanisms, among them, the Original Demon King was one of them. If the gods decide to go on a large-scale invasion once more, you can expect all the Spirit Gods, Yggdrasil, the Dragons, and the Demons to ally together to fight them, and perhaps even a new Demon King similar to the Original One could be born.”

“Wow…” Aquarina muttered. “So despite everything… this world is in a very… unstable balance, huh?”

“In a way, yes… but I want to believe the Gods aren’t stupid enough to do that,” Undine said. “Nonetheless, the damage they’ve provoked over time with their Heroes and Saints is noticeable. They’re manipulators, they prefer to influence rather than to nasty their hands themselves.”

“Yeah, they’re pretty nasty bastards…” Aquarina sighed, crossing her arms. “Anyway… That’s enough for today. I don’t want to hear about those damn Gods for a while! I’m going to focus on what’s in front of me for now… let’s see, the kitten and the wyrm egg, which names could fit them?”

“Meow!”

“Graawr…”

As she watched the two plays, Aquarina nodded.

“Alright. I’ve decided… Come here.”

She grabbed the floating egg, who struggled, trying to get away from her hands.

“Your name will be Drakon!”

“Grawr?!”

FLASH!

As she said the name, the little egg glowed brightly, receiving a name and strengthening its powers and foundations.

“And the kitten, come here!”

She grabbed the kitten, feeling the firer and thunder in her hands, she reinforced herself with her Aura and was able to touch him much more easily.

“So are you a boy or a girl?”

She tried to check on the kitten, finding… nothing that could give her a clue. It was hard to identify what a kitten was at birth because both had it well hidden.

“Well, Leon should fit either way, right?”

FLASH!

And then, another flash of light encompassed the kitten, as he or she… or whatever the kitten was, received their name.

The two familiars gained more spiritual power, this was more noticeable on the Wyrm, Drakon, who suddenly gained a more ethereal aura.

CRACK!

And out of nowhere, two tiny legs popped from beneath the egg’s shell, they were black and red scaled in color, and tiny, with sharp golden claws.

“Oh cute! It got legs now! Hahaha!” Aquarina giggled.

“Graawrr!” The Wyrm groaned cutely, as it began shaking its tiny legs and flying away.

“Hahaha, it’s so cute…” Aquarina giggled, as she seemed to have calmed down a little bite more. “Ah, I wish I could give them system seeds though.”

“It could be done later once you reunite with Sylphy,” Undine explained. “I think it won’t be too long until then, right?”

“Yeah, I suppose so…” Nodded Aquarina. “Hm?”

Ding!

[You have granted true names to two of your Contracted Familiars.]
