Chapter 1728: Undine’s Talk
Chapter 1728: Undine’s Talk
—–
After the long conversation came to an end, Aquarina finally got to eat some of the red meat. The Stone Rhinoceros, a Tier 8 monster, had an incredibly delicious meat. Although as hard as stone. It was tenderized nicely by her father and her mother before being cooked, or minced into burgers and meatballs, which were just as juicy and delicious.
With that feast finally satiating her, Aquarina felt relieved and slightly sleepy. But at the same time, as she thought about everything that happened today, her mind couldn’t really feel calm at all. After chatting a bit with her friends, everyone just went to sleep, they needed to prepare for what was coming tomorrow, a big day.
“A Divine Spirit, huh? If this is really true, then that’s ought to be a really hard fight… Isn’t it?”
As she rested over her bed, her Spirits appeared by her side, trying to comfort her even though it seemed a bit hard with the current situation at hand.
“Aquarina, are you nervous?”
Undine appeared by her side, sitting right next to her, she seemed worried about the mental state of her master, something any spirit would be worried about.
“Raarr?”
Even little Leviathan rushed down towards her and remained by her side. He couldn’t talk and wasn’t as smart as Undine, but he wanted to show Aquarina he was there for her as well.
“Hahah… Maybe a bit? It’s unlike me, is it?” Aquarina wondered. “I just… Well, I’m worried about a bunch of things honestly. If Agua will be able to complete her trial now that we’re going with mom and dad, if that thing will be weak enough that we can take care of it… I’m worried it might be too strong, even more with all the giant army of ants it has…”
“But your parents are very strong, right? I am sure they could be able to defeat it,” Undine said.
“Undine you don’t even know how strong that thing is, right? But if its truly like a God, like the Great Oasis Spirit but with a divine body and even more faith and worshippers to gain even more power… Wouldn’t it be super dangerous?” Aquarina wondered. “Back then when we confronted Lolth, all our parents had to combine their strength to defeat that monster… And even then, we also had to help out a little.”
“…” Undine fell silent for a moment. “I suppose the power of Gods cannot be easily overcome even by the heroes. However, unlike Lolth, this being originated as an artificial Divine Spirit, right? And if it doesn’t have its ornaments either, it shouldn’t be too strong.”
“But…” Aquarina muttered, growing worried. “Are we enough to defeat that thing? Even with mom and dad I’m worried… I’m kind… I’m kind of scared…”
Aquarina, who was usually a reckless, brave girl, had developed a lot lately… And at the same time, as she developed and learned a greater sense of responsibility, she started to become more grounded, and less… well, delusional about everything, her childishness was mostly gone by now, and she saw things through a very mature viewpoint.
“Being scared after realizing just how terrifying these beings could be was only natural, someone that wasn’t scared about such a thing would be a fool, and I’m glad you feel that way to an extent, Aquarina.” Undine said. “It means you’ve grown a lot as a person… You understand the weight of things, and everything else.”
“Y-You’re happy I’m scared?!” Aquarina asked, getting slightly angered. “Ugh, Undine…”
“Hahah, I wasn’t trying to be mean or something, please don’t take it that way,” Undine giggled nervously. “I was just saying that… fear is something natural, Aquarina. You’ve also felt it before too, right? A few times at least.”
“I mean yeah… Back then when Sylphy and I were trapped inside of that Space with the Skeleton guy… I was so scared, and I felt so powerless…” Aquarina sighed. “I wanted to be strong since then, stronger than anybody so I could protect myself… and Sylphy, and everyone I loved… because I realized things could be taken away from us so easily… But at some point I got so strong I became kind of reckless, and… well, a bit stupid. I was also too mean sometimes… It’s funny, how I had to walk away from everyone just to realize how I’ve been kind of a bad friend…”
“Y-You’re not a bad friend, Aquarina! What are you talking about? Everyone loves you…” Undine sighed, patting her head and kissing her forehead. “Don’t say such things… I understand you must feel a little conflicted with your own past actions, you may regret some but… you never truly went overboard. And you’ve improved and become so much better over time. You were a good friend before, but you’ll become even better now.”
“Hmm…” Aquarina sighed. “But what’s the point if we all die tomorrow then?”
“Come on now! Your parents… they’ve continued growing stronger, you know? I am surprised you’re looking down on them to this extent! Didn’t you admire them before?” Undine asked.
“I-I love them and admire them so much! But… it just when I remember that battle against Lolth, how everyone struggled so much…” Aquarina sighed. “If it wasn’t for Sylphy’s Endless Mana helping everyone refuel, it might have gone even worse…”
“But your parents are different from back then! Hasn’t it been like two or three years since that time?” Undine wondered. “Calm down Aquarina, your parents have not slacked off, they realized that this world… wouldn’t let them rest even if they wanted.”
“Eeh? But they’ve been taking a break and they’re in a vacation, they’ve been relaxing all this time, no?” Aquarina wondered. “I mean, there’s nothing wrong with that but…”
“You’re mistaken. Perhaps you have not realized it because it is not easy to tell… Your parents, every day, are constantly Cultivating their Souls, Bodies, and Magic Circles, alongside their Divinity Sparks,” explained Undine. “They’ve reached a point where physical exercise isn’t enough though, they are constantly stepping into the forbidden realm of the divine. And that requires great meditation. To you they might seem like they’re lazing around, but they’re meditating and growing stronger, constantly, they don’t even sleep completely.”
“E-Eh? What?”
