Chapter 1708: A Volcano? No! An Anthill!
Chapter 1708: A Volcano? No! An Anthill!
—–
Once they reached the Giant Fire Ant nest, they found out there was a “mini volcano” constantly pouring lava into the surroundings. The stone slowly melted, creating large rivers of lava and even lakes.
Which poured down and slowly hardened into stones, which with the strong winds of the cliff, probably sent these stones flying down, making it an even more dangerous place to climb than before.
This entire area was the Giant Fire Ant nest “terraformed landscape”, or some could even call it a Natural Domain, the monsters have poured their fire and manipulated their surroundings, completely turning them into a world fitting for their day to day lives.
This was one of the reasons these creatures, the Giant Fire Ants, were such a threat to the oasis and its jungles and nature, as to live, they had to tear apart everything and create a literal inferno.
The reason why they settled down here and not in any other place was also because of the oasis itself and its resources.
Meaning that these monsters cannot truly exist in a place away from other living beings, the crater oasis is full of giant beasts they can hunt, of spirit stones they can eat to nurture themselves and their queen, and of wood to burn and create more ashes for their nest.
Therefore, they were well known as destroyers of ecosystems and invaded other places that lived in peace just to create their own nest by destroying and burning everything around them!
And they were quite amazing at creating nests, as Aquarina and her friends just saw, the “artificial volcano” was completely made out from scratch.
But somehow they were able to heat it enough that it can even produce lava and magma now, and if it continues to grow, it might become a real volcano and burn the entire crater until not even the water remains!
“So this is where those damn falling rocks come from…” Silvia said, as she saw the whole process with her bare eyes. How the slow rivers of magma or lava poured down, then cooled down, turned into a bunch of black, hot stones, and fell due to the winds “Once we take these ants down that should be resolved with!”
“I sure hope so, this place seems more than troublesome,” Justicio sighed. “Well I’m glad we made it here in time now… It has yet to get darker.”
“Even if it were to get darker the volcano itself might illuminate the entire place either way,” Aquarina shrugged. “So don’t worry too much about this stuff, Justicio. Or don’t tell me you’re afraid of the dark now?”
“I-I’ve never been afraid of the dark…!” Justicio complained. “I’m just saying, okay? don’t get the wrong idea. I know what we’re doing here… I just want to get home quickly. I’m starting to miss my parents.”
“Aw, well, I guess we should hurry a bit then, now the issue is how do we take them down…” Silvia said. “Is it possible for Aquarina and Agua to cool down that artificial volcano with their magic?”
“It should be possible, I think,” said Aquarina. “I got a lot of magic power on me… To be honest if you let me I could just go there and blow everything up… But we would risk the debris falling into the oasis, we have to be careful where we direct all the debris.”
“Yeah…” Agua nodded. “Aquarina, can you calculate how many monsters are there? Like you usually do?”
“I can, let me do that…” Aquarina nodded, as she began concentrating.
She placed her two palms over the floor, and closed her eyes, feeling the sensations of the ground.
Then, she activated the special spell that allowed her to see through it all.
The “Eyes of the Earth” Spell, although it had many names.
FLAAASH!
Her eyes remained closed, but her sense of vision expanded going down through the stone and passing through the underground lava.
As she did this, she also scanned the entire place, realizing just how big the ants dug, even going far into the steppes underground area.
“W-What the hell? This place’s huge!”
As she opened her eyes again, her face was filled with disbelief, and her friends glanced at her with slightly worried expressions.
“How big?” Justicio asked.
“I couldn’t map the entire thing it went for over a kilometer…” Aquarina said. “There’s a whole underground area, like a series of volcanic caves. There’s hundreds of eggs on giant clutches, being taken care by thousands of ants.”
“T-Thousands?!” Asked Agua. “Wait, isn’t this too much? Have we reached a mega nest?”
“Mega Nest? I guess that’s how you could call it…” Aquarina said. “I think this place might be two nests combined together… Remember how the Oasis Spirit said there were four nests we had to destroy? We took one before her request, I remember that. Then two more yesterday. And now we were going for the third, which Agua knew the location, but what about the fourth? Or fifth? Agua has no idea where it is, and not even the rest of her tribe who always run around the jungle.”
“So you’re suggesting there are two nests combined in here?!” Asked Silvia. “Isn’t that way too crazy? Can we take them all down in time? It would be way too much…!”
“Yeah I agree…” Justicio nodded. “That also means we’ll fight two Ant Queens, right?”
“I couldn’t sense a single one though, but we can try sensing them again,” sighed Aquarina. “Share with my your Auras so I can further expand and enhance my senses.”
Aquarina’s friends expanded their Auras, wrapping her with them. Justicio, Silvia, Agua, and Pyuku were the ones doing this, while Quetz was rather clueless about these special Aura Techniques.
“…”
He only glanced in silence as Aquarina combined their Auras with her, and their senses became one, much enhanced and stronger than before.
FLAAASH
And then she expanded her Aura through the entire mountain-like cliff, reaching much deeper than before.
As she did, she scanned everything she could see…
Until suddenly.
TRUUUM!
