Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 815 - 815: Guardian of Causality

“Causality has nothing against the Great Lightning Spirit: Kayla, so switching her back would solve your problems.”

Artemisia stepped forward, exercising her Authority as a god Queen.

The moment her foot touched the ground, the surging energy coming from the hotspot around them was forced back into the planet and when she touched Evan’s shoulder, she shut off his Hero Authority to prevent it from being consumed for anything.

“Keep that for the Demonic Hand.”

She then walked up to Kayla and stood before the Spirit, regarding her with a calm gaze as she spoke.

“I warned you, didn’t I?”

[…]

Kayla looked away, unable to meet Artemisia’s gaze and the goddess only sighed before raising her hands. Then, she spoke in her True Voice.

|Royal Evolution Authority. |

Divinity radiated from Artemisia, unleashing a pressure so immense that everything in Zanclike below Level 500 fell unconscious instantly.

She quickly contained the power into her palm and conjured something.

That was the best word Evan could use to describe it, as it looked like she was just pressing her hand in the air and circuits were manifesting before him.

Moulding the mass of power and law energy into an orb, she turned to Evan, holding it out.

“Take it. You’re her Contractor, and the Key for her seal. You’re the one who holds the right.”

“…”

Evan glanced at her hand, then took a deep breath before reaching out. Casually, Artemisia turned her palm over and let the orb of dense energy fall into his palm.

‘This…energy so dense it’s skipped liquifying and straight up solidified.’

He made a surface-level analysis as he walked forward. His eyes moved to the chains restraining Kayla’s limbs, and Artemisia waved her hand, destroying them with her divinity.

With them out of the way, Evan turned his eyes to Kayla and silently pressed the orb of power in his hands into her chest.

It felt as if he was fitting a gear into place, and the energy permeated into her body seamlessly. Before his eyes, the absurd amount of magic power she emanated rapidly diminished and the pressure she gave off receded in an instant.

Those strings of notifications appeared before Evan’s eyes and he quickly appraised Kayla to be sure that everything was fine.

He saw a lot of numbers, and a fair number of question marks too, but besides that, everything looked alright.

“Can’t you change this thing?”

[…I tried…the time to change seals is more than enough to causality to get a hold on me.]

Kayla replied to Artemisia’s question and the goddess’ lips curled downwards lightly. Just as she was about to suggest asking him for help, her eyes widened ever so slightly and she looked to the sky.

“Hmm? Someone noticed.”

Artemisia turned towards Evan; her expression calm as usual as she spoke.

“You’re on your for now. Don’t call me unless you’ve reached Faulin.”

With those words, Artemisia vanished to avoid being noticed by any other deities, since she officially wasn’t supposed to be in the galaxy.

The other chains of causality that Evan had tangled earlier broke free from his skill’s hold and they snaked around in the air, as if ‘looking for something’.

When they ‘saw’ that ‘Kaylatheurge’ wasn’t present, they silently retreated into the spatial cracks they came from and the fabric of space repaired itself.

As for Kayla’ her body shrunk a fair bit, but she didn’t regress back to her early-teen looks. Now, she looked more like Evan’s age, only a bit shorter than he was.

Evan looked at the mess around them, and it was then that his eyes caught sight of something.

“huh?”

All the spatial tears where the chains of causality came from had disappeared as the planet’s fabric of space fixed itself…all except the metre-long one behind Kayla.

The moment Evan looked at it, the crack suddenly widened and a giant eyeball appeared. It looked around, as if searching for something, and then locked onto him.

“?!”

[Hmm…?! Mast-!]

Kayla’s voice abruptly cut off and Evan’s vision blanked out.

When light entered his eyes again, he found himself standing on a small planetoid floating in a starry void.

*THUM!

He heard a loud noise and turned his gaze in the direction it came from, coming face to face with a man seated atop a small rock.

The man was dressed in regal robes, had a triangular-shaped hat on his head and wielded a long staff which he hit on the stone floor to draw Evan’s attention.

“Hero of Aidos Prime, do you know why you are here?”

“…I only recall being whisked over here without a word, so no. I don’t.”

Evan responded after a short pause, getting to his feet and dusting the sand off his trousers. The man before him emanated the energy of a very irritating law, so Evan had a guess, but he wanted to hear the man’s words first.

“I am the Chief Enforcer of this Orithyia Galactic Sector. Servant of the Eternals and Guardian of Causality.”

“…”

‘Thought so…’

Ever since Evan found out that one could comprehend World Laws, he always had a feeling that the law of Causality wasn’t as autonomous as everyone believed.

Sure, it may be autonomous for the most part, but couldn’t the people who comprehended it bend it to their will?

“We Guardians of Causality exist to ensure the law of Causality remains completely autonomous and fight those who seek to bend it to their will for their benefit.

Regardless of if their intentions are ‘Good’ or ‘Evil’.”

Basically, they didn’t care if you were trying to twist the law to save billions. If you messed up too much, these Guardians would come after you.

“You…Hero of Aidos Prime, have helped breach the rules of cause and effect.

However, causality would not go after you…because you are an Irregular, a Singularity.

A ‘Bug’ in the Universe that bends balancing laws around you, making them avoid you and allowing you to avoid repercussions for interfering with Great Fate and Destiny.”

The man pointed his staff to the starry sky around them as he continued.

“The Star of Lightning’s transformation into the black hole which would serve as the spare core of the Orithyia Galaxy is an ‘Effect’ set in stone in the Galaxy’s Fate.

However, it cannot come to pass, unless its ‘Cause’…the “Star of Lightning’s” consciousness is present within it.

Without its consciousness, the Star of Lightning is like a body without a soul. It becomes unstable.

An unstable star is a recipe for disaster, so the star is kept in a state of suspended animation to prevent any chaos.

This suspended animation consumes energy which the Universe should be using to birth thousands of planets elsewhere.

You have no idea how long this has gone on for.”

Evan silently pondered the man’s words after he spoke. Truly, he had no idea how long it had been since Kayla broke free of the fate of being a Celestial Body’s consciousness.

“I wonder…why doesn’t the ‘Universe’ just create another consciousness to replace the missing one?”

“That is not how things work, Hero.”

“Oh really? Sounds like a very plausible solution to me. One that’d cost a lot less energy too.”

The boy nonchalantly shrugged as he spoke. He felt that if there was enough energy to keep a giant Star in suspended animation for who knows how long, then wasn’t it better to just put a new consciousness in it?

“The working process of the Universe is not something you can comprehend.”

“So why did you explain all that to me, then?”

“…”

The man went silent for a moment after Evan spoke, but that short second of silence was enough for Evan to confirm his conjecture.

“You can’t go after her because of her Multifaceted nature…

Lemme take a guess, if you act against Kayla as she is now, the same Causality you guard would turn against you, that’s why to brought me here…because I’m the ‘Key’ to the seal that’s locking away the ‘Facet’ you want.”

Evan had been using Time Difference and wracking his brain for why this guy had called him and not Kayla, and from the man’s reaction, he guessed his theory was correct.

The man also didn’t bother to deny it, fully confident that he’d get what he wanted, regardless of whatever Evan said or did.

Evan remembered the man’s earlier words and quickly understood that trying to convince him to drop the matter was absolutely pointless.

He looked down at the system interface in front of him and saw that its connection to Artemisia was being interfered with.

‘Artemisia said ‘Someone Noticed’ before she left. Must’ve been this guy. And he’s interfering with the system because he doesn’t want Artemisia here.’

This left Evan with pretty much only one option left.

“It’s not even 6 am yet, and I’m already gambling 3 times in one day. But considering the first two turned out well, I guess my luck’s pretty good.”

“?”

The Enforcer looked at Evan in confusion, wondering what the boy was talking about but Evan offered no explanation and silently activated Blessing of Destruction.

“Hmm? Destruction Essence? Do you perhaps…want to fight me?”

The man’s expression changed to one of pure disbelief as he spoke.

“You do not bring the power of a law, but a mere imitation created with magic. And you want to fight me with that? How impudent of you.”

Hearing his words, it was now Evan’s turn to have a change in expression.

“Fight you? Dude, do you think I’m suicidal or something? You’re a Higher Existence…why the fuck would I wanna buy a fight with you?”

Evan had an incredulous expression on his face, completely confused as to where the man got the idea of fighting him from.

But this then brought the question of why Evan had activated BoD.

“Hey, you said you were a ‘Servant of the Eternals’, didn’t you?”

The Enforcer narrowed his eyes at Evan when the boy asked this. Sure, he was a Servant of the Eternals, but what did that have to do with the current situation?

“What are you getting a-!?”

His expression suddenly contorted and seeing it, Evan smiled and spoke.

“Damn, my luck stat must be infinite. Looks like my gamble paid off, you really do know whenever I use this skill.”

At Evan’s words, a terrifying pressure descended upon them. The energy of the law of destruction covered the starry sky with its crimson light and feeling ‘it’, Evan nodded and thought to himself.

‘No wonder the Indirect Messaging system exists. I wouldn’t want to deal with this every time.’

In the same moment he had that thought, the pressure around them disappeared and all the energy they felt was converted into a single line of text by the Devour Class System of the Universe.

[The ‘Eternal of Time and Destruction’ coldly gazes in your direction.]

The Enforcer’s expression was a sight to behold.

‘That…he has the Blessing of Destruction!’

The Eternals were beings who governed different Major Concepts and kept these volatile masses of power from running amok.

They numbered less than 15, and they had a Hierarchy amongst themselves.

But regardless of rank, they had a consensus: you don’t piss off the guy governing ‘Destruction’.

Now, if a servant of theirs were to slight EOTD, would they defend that servant when even they themselves didn’t want to piss the guy off?

Normally, they would try.

But what if it concerned someone whom EOTD had given his ‘Blessing of Destruction’?

Then that Servant was on their own.

This Enforcer understood this, and that was why he understood exactly what he needed to do to save his skin.

Drop Kayla’s matter.

EOTD didn’t need to say a word.

The pressure on him disappeared as fast as it appeared, and when the Enforcer raised his gaze, Evan had vanished.
