“I suffered in the Cavern of Trials to break past Level 500, there’s no way I’d let you escape your share of the suffering.”

When David said this, there was a blank look in his eyes and seeing it only gave Laurene chills.

During his time in the Cavern of Trials, David had been given a very basic Trial as his final Trial.

He was to use his ‘Counter Spell’ to Counter ten spells of his opponent and make sure the countered spells all hit the Opponent.

Sounded easy, didn’t it?

That’s what he thought until the ‘Opponent’ he was given was a Replica of the Demon King who was capable of using Light and Spatial Magic.

Countering Spells moving at light speed made the list of the top 3 most difficult things he had ever done.

For reference, number 1 was getting the countered spells to hit the Demon King’s Replica before it teleported or simply elementalized and turned into light itself.

Laurene had been laughing at him when that happened, but now it was her turn, she was scared of whatever Trial she was going to meet.

She wanted to escape but clearly, that had not turned out well.

Evan brought out his walkie-talkie and confirmed the success rates of the attacks on other bases, before calling for their ride home.

An hour later, Gavin arrived at the beach and was about to comment on the destroyed island when he saw Laurene seated on the floor with her hands bound by Magic Sealing cuffs and Evan’s Everlasting chains binding her feet.

The Grand Magus looked at them incredulously and asked.

“I’m sorry, but, what the heck?”

“Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

Evan’s reply had Gavin nearly retorting about how this could be called ‘small stuff’, but he held himself back for the sake of his mental health.

“Take us to Dungeon City Vuegan please.”

And like so, through Gavin’s multiple teleportations and the use of a few Teleportation Waypoints, they arrived in Vuegan and headed straight for the Cavern of Trials.

After seeing the two boys drag the unwilling Laurene into the dungeon, Gavin silently pulled out his walkie-talkie and spoke into it after a few seconds.

“Derrick…I think your granddaughter just stepped into her execution grounds.”

[She just did WHAT?!]

Evan and David sat in the Hall of Karma waiting an hour for Laurene to finish with her trials. When she came out of the Trial Grounds, the girl’s head was hung low and there was a depressed air around her.

“Oh, she’s done! What Trial did you get? A Replica Trial?”

“No, I’m sure she got a ‘Specialised Trial’ like mine!”

“…”

Laurene remained silent as she walked up to the two of them, before raising her head to reveal the widest grin on her face and putting her middle fingers up.

“I got a ‘Trial of Wits’ you fuckers!”

“BUT WHY?!”

Once again, David lamented the injustice of the World while Laurene laughed her ass off at his obvious disappointment.

She was very happy that what she got was a Trail which required her to use her intelligence, something she was very confident in.

Leaving aside the banter of the three Heroes, Laurene had now succeeded in joining them in the Epic Level.

It was also obvious how happy she was that David’s wish for her to go through a difficult Trial had NOT been fulfilled.

Anyway, another skill had been added to her list of skills just now, as a reward for clearing the Tenth Trial.

Still on her skills, her Mental Block had evolved and revealed its true nature as Mindshield.

When they exited the dungeon, they were met with Laurene’s grandfather who had rushed over after hearing Gavin’s message.

David was picked up by Dandeyr, with Laurene and Evan not forgetting to remind him to inform Wechil’s government about the situation, much to his chagrin.

As for Evan, he returned to his house in the GWE’s capital of Gerfast, the Oak Avenue Manor.

Upon walking in through the main entrance, there was a group of servants who were present to welcome him.

A maid moved to help him get his overcoat off while the butler made reports to him.

“Lady Pride returned earlier today. She entered the Library not too long after and hasn’t left since.”

“Oh, and her brother?”

“He has not come around.”

Evan guessed Nadarus was probably busy scamming people in a casino somewhere.

Maybe he was in his own Casino which he had acquired sometime last year.

Shifting the focus of his question, he asked.

“Where’s Liz?”

“Lady Eliza is in the Master Bedroom. She had your Dinner brought up there as well.”

“Okay, you’re dismissed.”

After saying that, the boy took a step forward and activated blink, and with a few teleportations, he arrived at the Bedroom doors and pushed them open.

“Hmm? Welcome back.”

Seated on the bed was his beloved girlfriend, her blonde hair neatly braided and cascading over her left shoulder. She was dressed in a blue negligee that matched the hue of her eyes while holding the remote for the large TV across from them.

Evan silently joined her on the bed, snaking his arms around her waist and planting a kiss on her neck.

“Wait, Evan, you still smell like the oc-mmph!”

Her sentence was interrupted as his kiss found its way to her lips, capturing her tongue in a passionate embrace.

Though her body desired to let him push her down right there, she caught sight of what was being displayed on the TV from the corner of her eyes and fought against her desires, pushing Evan back before saying.

“Go take a shower, you smell like the ocean.”

“I did take a dip when the island exploded, so makes sense.”

Eliza refrained from asking why said island had even exploded and just pointed to the table beside the bed and continued.

“Your dinner is waiting for you. Now shoo, I have a film to watch.”

“Oh wow, I lost to a film.”

Evan spoke with a dejected tone as he got off the bed, but Eliza didn’t even give him a second glance and went on to increase the volume of the TV.

The boy took a shower and returned to the bedroom, picking up the tray of food and moving it to the bed as he sat beside her and asked about the film she was watching.

“A Romance novel I read some years ago got adapted, I’ve been curious since.”

“Oh, give me a summary.”

Like that, the boy joined her in viewing the movie while eating, finishing it an hour later.

As the credits rolled, Eliza tossed the remote to the side and spoke.

“Not everything was as I wanted, but it surpassed my expectations. I’d give it a 7.”

“Seven?! Just what were you expecting?”

“A 3 or 4.”

Evan was dumbfounded by Eliza’s low expectations for the film and she cited that not every film adaptation turned out well so she always kept her expectations low.

“So, how did things on your side go?”

“Perfect. Laurene got to Level 499 so we tossed her into the Cavern of Trials. Unluckily, she got Trial of Wits.”

Eliza was genuinely curious why that was considered ‘unlucky’ and Evan explained David’s horrible experience and his desire to have someone suffer a worse fate than him.

“Poor David…”

As they talked, Evan laid his head in Eliza’s lap and she silently caressed his hair, playing around with the strands.

“He also ended up being the one to deal with the aftermath on our side. Tomorrow, I’d be hosting a Projection Conference Call to get a clearer report on how things went so I’d know if I’d have to leave the planet for a bit.”

“Leave the planet? To where and Why?”

“To the Regal Void Expanse; so, the First Finger who would be absolutely LIVID when he hears of this wouldn’t be able to find me.

The man came to Gerfast to try to kill me after the Dullahan Attack, he might just try to do so this time so I’d need to be off the grid for a while.”

Evan muttered something about either just taking her along with him or leveraging his connections to get Legendries and Sovereigns to do something.

However, when she wanted to ask him what that something was, she saw that the boy had dozed off in her lap.

It didn’t take her long to realise that it was her rubbing his hair that had lulled him to sleep off and while she knew it’d be easy to wake him up, she refrained from doing so.

“The Cavern of Trials, huh?”

Evan mentioning the Cavern of Trials and talking about Laurene’s Trial, reminded her of their own experience in the Cavern of Trials a Year Ago.

It reminded her of what transpired after Evan had defeated Gabrielle’s Replica.
