Chapter 764 - 764: Two Evans?!
As the battle continued, Evan informed David about the hidden Level 620 existence who was the head of this Demonic Hand Brigade, and when David questioned why he hadn’t shown up yet despite the fact that the trio had nearly wiped everyone here, Evan’s reply was simple.
“He’s aiming to catch us off guard and take us out, even if it means sacrificing everyone here.”
“Damn, that’s cold.”
David almost pitied the Demonic Hand grunts here when he heard that.
Laurene who was slowly making her way towards them was scanning the area with her Mystic Eyes, and for a millisecond, her brow twitched when she gazed in a certain direction.
However, she continued looking around like she hadn’t noticed a thing while using her Telepathy skill to send messages to Evan and David.
‘Evan, I think I just saw that guy you talked about.’
Her Mystic Eyes could see Evan even when he was using Lethe, one of the most powerful concealment skills around, so it stood to reason that she’d be able to see through anything weaker than that.
And she was still Stage 3!
When Laurene had first seen Evan using Lethe, she hadn’t even realised he was using a concealment skill. She had spoken to the boy casually and everyone else present had looked at her wondering who she was speaking to since they could not sense Evan until he revealed himself.
“That so…”
Evan muttered under his breath when he heard this, before turning in David’s direction and shouting out.
“Smoke and Mirrors!”
Hearing this, David nodded silently before shouting back.
“This is the last batch! Let’s round them up.”
At that moment, a target marker appeared in his field of vision and he didn’t even need to glance at Laurene to know she was responsible.
The Hero of Truth continued her spell casting, chaining spell after spell and ending the lives of everything in sight.
As for Evan, the boy turned around and dashed in the opposite direction of the two, towards the massive crack in the Dimensional Realm barrier.
“I found some trying to run away!”
With Evan heading towards the South, David being towards the East, Laurene was the only one left in the central area of the Dimensional Realm.
Evan, with BoD active, moved faster than any eyes present could perceive, so it only took a few seconds before he was out of sight.
**KAABOOMM!!!
A massive explosion suddenly rang out from the direction the boy went and Laurene turned to look at it for a moment, before redirecting her gaze to the last of the Senior Members around her.
‘Evan has started his part.’
Laurene moved her hand, rousing her magic power and casting five buff spells on her magic catalyst, Venus.
She then shifted it to her right side, about a metre away from her while she continued mopping up the grunts with lasers.
With her back turned to it, she did not see how the Magic Catalyst had suddenly shifted as if it had been nudged by something, but she sensed her buffs had been transferred from it.
At that moment, she used Earth Magic and the ground beneath her feet crumbled to pieces, she then turned to David and sent a message via Telepathy.
‘Dave. Let’s start controlling the battle.’
[On it.]
David nodded and started heading towards the Northern side of the Dimensional Realm, while Laurene slowly inched towards him.
‘Evan’ came back from wiping out the junior members who tried to run away, and silently headed to the west to keep fighting the Senior Members there.
Laurene saw this and nodded before holding her palms together and beginning a spell chant.
“From the depths of chaos, I summon the power of creation’s end…”
It was the same chant that a Demonic Hand member had tried to use at the beginning, and going by Evan’s words, if Laurene started chanting, then her opponent was insanely fucked.
The Demonic Hand members who had seen her throw out Tier 3 Spells without a word couldn’t help but feel shivers run down their spines when they saw her beginning a chant.
It went without saying that they combined all their remaining power and attacked her midway to break her chant.
Their combined demonic energy attack surged forward, piercing through the condensing magic power and shattering her protective divinity shield.
The sheer force of their attack sent her hurtling through the air, her body thrown over 400 meters before she ‘managed’ to regain her bearings, landing on one knee with a thud.
“Fucking bastards!”
Laurene spat out ‘blood’ as she ‘struggled’ to her feet, and it was at that moment that a sword materialized out of thin air to her right, piercing straight towards her head with pitch-black demonic energy swirling around it.
The girl’s eyes darted in the direction of the blade, but there was not a single trace of fear behind them, something the owner of that sword instantly realised.
“Got you.”
“?!”
Those two words were enough for him to know that Laurene had anticipated his attack, but faster than he could do anything, he heard another voice from behind.
“Prismatic Destruction Vortex.”
“?!”
A swirling mass of destructive energy and multi-coloured flames bashed into his back, tearing through his skin and flesh with ease and rending his bones.
“GAAAHHHHKK!?!”
The man’s cry echoed through the air as he was overwhelmed by the onslaught of prismatic flames.
Simultaneously, Laurene turned around and continued the chant from earlier which was supposed to have been broken when the Demonic Hand members had attacked her.
“…Atomic flames, converge and converge, in a cataclysmic dance of annihilation.”
Nuclear Magic: Atomic Annihilation!
Her magic power was channelled into a concentrated beam which launched towards the man with immense speed and force. Upon impact, it detonated in a spectacular explosion, unleashing a devastating wave of nuclear energy that consumed both the hidden attacker and every other thing or person in the Vicinity besides her fellow heroes.
Even so, her Nuclear Magic was not enough to kill her target.
That’s where David came in and delivered the third attack using his Blessing of Earth skill.
“Terra Drill!!”
A giant earthen drill, gleaming with a metallic sheen hurled through the air while spinning at breakneck speeds, hitting the man in the side and drilling a hole straight through his torso.
Blood sputtered in the air as a shockwave blew away all the clouds of smoke, dust and dirt, revealing the figure of the Sixth Division Senior Member down on his knees with 5th-degree burns all over his body and a gaping hole in his stomach.
There was no skin left on his body, his vertebrae were cracked, and all the flesh at his back had been shredded apart, revealing his fractured bones.
All that was left of his left arm was his palm which was slowly being turned to ashes by the prismatic flames that burned it.
If it wasn’t for his SSS+ Health Stat and ‘Last Stand’ skill, then he would have been dead already.
Even those couldn’t do much as he’d be dead in less than a minute anyway.
With the little extra time his skill provided him, he wondered.
‘…how?’
He recognized the Prismatic Flames that burned him first. The attack which hit him from behind a second before Laurene’s Nuclear Magic.
It belonged to Evan.
But Evan was supposed to be in the West, he had double-checked and confirmed the boy was engaged with opponents there.
So how had Evan suddenly appeared behind him and attacked him?
The Blink Skill didn’t have that much range.
What baffled him the most, was that in his dimming vision, he could see two ‘Evans’ standing before him.
“…t-two? ho…w?”
“And what makes you think we’re gonna explain that to you.”
Laurene replied to his last words before using a beam of condensed Divinity to blast his brains out, a second before her vision was filled with ‘Level Up’ notifications.
Seeing this, the two Evans nodded in satisfaction.
One of them raised his fist and the other responded in kind, with them fist bumping as they acknowledged the success of their plan with a simple phrase:
“”Good job.””
David removed his gauntlets and cracked his fists as he looked at the both of them before shaking his head.
“If I saw you from afar, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.”
Laurene, on the other hand, did not have the same problem he did.
“Huh? The one on the right is obviously the real one.”
The Beast Prince deadpanned her and pointed to her eyes, citing the obvious reason why she could tell them apart, however, she shook her head in response.
“I’m not using them.
The magic power fluctuations and the amount of energy possessed are enough to tell me that the one on the left is the fake.”
“”Damn, being called a fake hit hard…””
The two Evans spoke at the same time and hearing the double voices, Laurene frowned and spoke.
“Stop that. One of you is already bad enough for my mental health.”
“”Ouch, that’s harsh…””
The two spoke in synchrony once more before the one on the left suddenly shattered into fragments of light which were absorbed into the one on the right—the real Evan.
When Evan had shouted ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ earlier, he had been talking about this strategy where they lured their opponent into attacking one of them who looked unguarded, while another who was in hiding dealt a blow to the opponent from behind.
One of the Evans had been in the Western side of the Dimensional Realm, fooling the deceased Demonic Hand Member into thinking there wasn’t anyone close to Laurene, while the other—the real one—had used the smoke of the explosion that rang out at the Barrier crack as a cover to activate ‘Lethe’.
He took buffs from Laurene when she moved Venus away from herself, and her using Earth Magic at that moment was to conceal the fact that Evan kicking off the ground and dashing forward had pulverized the earth beneath his feet.
Next, Laurene allowed herself to be hit and made a show of her barrier being destroyed and her getting injured. What’s more, her spell casting had seemingly been broken, so the Hidden Level 620 had assumed she was in a Spell Backlash state and could not cast anything for a few seconds.
The man had considered this an opportunity to strike and take her out, only for Evan to appear behind him and hit him with a Vortex.
