Reincarnated as an Energy with a System

Chapter 1871: The Question

Chapter 1871: The Question

The screen came alive, showing a black and white picture of a camera angled down at a road next to the river. At the edge of the screen, two figures blurred into the frame, and in the next moment, a massive explosion rocked the cars and windows nearby.

For a second, there was even a bright light, as if an explosion had been used.

The video changed to a different angle, showing a bit more of the event. Then another. And another.

Five clips played in total, each showing the same scene.

Many of the journalists there had been very aware of that event and had even tried to find answers on what had happened. So finding out that the one responsible for it had been a new hero had been very surprising.

They began wondering what else he could do.

“Sadly, that is all I am able to reveal in regards to my power. I’m sure more will be revealed over time.”

Many hands rose right away.

Ning chose another person.

“You killed someone before you had a hero license. Were the authorities notified?”

“Yes, they were. I’m sure more news will come of that matter soon.”

Ning chose another person.

“Why did you choose the Star Hero Agency?”

Ning smiled. “What can I say? It’s one of the better agencies out there. As soon as I found out my rank, I knew what hero agency I wanted to choose.”

“What do you think about Waveshot and his current ongoing criminal proceedings?”

Ning was aware they were going to ask him this. “All men hit a low point sometimes, make mistakes. We cannot judge them based on that mistake, but rather what they do afterward. I will wait and see before I make any judgment on a broken man.”

More hands rose and more questions were asked.

The public relations team had been expecting these questions and had prepared him to answer them. So, when a question came that he had not expected, Ning took a pause.

“Sorry, could you repeat that?”

The short gnome in a blue coat spoke again. “I asked, have you had any offers from any other groups?”

Ning paused for a moment, slowly realizing what the man was speaking about.

“Other group?” he spoke. “Do you mean other agencies?”

“No, I do not,” the man said. “You found the text file. You know what the offer is. Do you accept it?”

The room fell into murmurs as everyone tried to figure out what was going on.

Ning looked at the gnome, trying to figure out if he was hypnotized or not. He could hardly tell from just a look.

Ning leaned into the microphone and gave his answer. “No. Send whoever you want to make your offer. Number One through Number Six. My answer will always be no.”

The gnome sat back down, no change in his expression. Ning wondered if this gnome was Number 5, but the lack of expressions made him believe that the man didn’t even know what he was talking about.

More questions came. Some about the Hero Conference and whether he would go there. Some asking about the upcoming global summit and whether he would be willing to go should he be called.

Those were questions Ning was waiting for. The press conference ended a short while after, and Ning said his farewell to the crowd of people before leaving through the side.

The moment he was out the door, he pulled out his phone and called Mira.

“Sir Valen? How are you call— oh, there must be a delay.”

Ning raised his eyebrows. “You’re watching the conference?”

“Yes! Me and Jack.”

“What am I being asked?”

“Oh, the red-haired satyr just asked you about the origin of your name,” Mira said. “Why did you lie? You said it was something chosen by the Star Hero Agency. You clearly knew it was us.”

“I can’t have them finding out that I work there and going through my personal life,” Ning said. “That doesn’t matter. In a bit, you will see a gnome in a blue suit. Find everything about him for me, please. Call me once you find something.”

“Okay…” Mira said in a confused tone before ending the call.

Ning put his phone aside and walked out to leave. The PR head sat in the limo they drove, talking about how except for a hiccup in the middle, it mostly went as they had expected.

Blake sat to the side, showing the internet’s response. The clips of him killing Talia, blurry as it was, had gone viral on the internet, now having been seen by many, many people.

The limo took them straight to the hotel where Ning and Blake got off. Ning walked out without his suit and in a normal dress, and went straight to his room.

Ning slumped on his bed, feeling tired. “When does my home deal finalize? I can’t wait to move.”

“It was actually completed today, but they need your signature. We can head over tomorrow morning to sign and then it’s just a matter of moving your items into the house.”

“I don’t have anything to move,” Ning said.

“What about those things we saved in the storage container?”

“I’ll go through them tomorrow. See what I will keep. I will still be throwing most of it out, I think.”

“That’s fine. Would you like me to contact some designers to fill your house? There are people that will do everything for you.”

“That would be great. I need something cozy and home-like.”

Blake nodded. “Then I shall see you tomorrow.”

Ning sat around for a while, watching his own conference on the TV played as highlights throughout. Everything had been a success, which made him quite happy.

Then, the phone rang and he picked it up.

“Sir Valen? This is Mira. I searched the gnome, but I can’t find anything useful at all.”

“No random money in his account?” Ning asked.

“Nope. Nothing out of the ordinary at all.”

“Oh! That’s surprising,” Ning said, getting up. “Can you tell me where I can find him?”
