Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 411 - 407: You Can Get Lost Now
The reason Wesley Yates did this, of course, wasn’t out of any great love for his brother. It was because they still had a mother in her sixties. If both of them ended up in prison, the old woman likely wouldn’t be able to bear it.
"The police may not know what you’ve done, but someone does!"
Cecilia spoke calmly, but her words carried a hidden barb.
Tony Yates’s expression faltered. He first looked at Zelda Warner, then at Duane and the others.
After a moment, he shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh? And who’s that?"
He was so brazen because he knew it was impossible for Duane and the others to know his business.
As for Zelda Warner, his brother had gone to great pains to keep him out of this. Knowing his sister-in-law, she would never let her husband’s efforts be in vain. So even if she knew something, she would never say a word.
He was Wesley Yates’s own brother, after all; he certainly wasn’t an idiot.
"Don’t bother looking at them. I know exactly what you’re thinking." But Cecilia saw right through his scheme. "Your sister-in-law is kind-hearted; she’d never turn you in. But that’s contingent on you acting like an actual human being."
"If Jeb knew that the brother he worked so hard to protect started coveting his property the moment he was locked up... well, that would be one thing. But to then openly harass his pregnant sister-in-law? Do you think, with his temper, he’d still give you a chance?"
"You’re his own brother. You should know his temper better than any of us."
Tony Yates just sneered at her words. "I was wondering who you were talking about. My brother? He’s like a clay idol crossing a river—he can’t even save himself right now. All visits are forbidden before his sentencing. You can’t threaten me with him."
In the face of Tony Yates’s arrogance, Cecilia just sneered back. "Is that right? So you think I can’t get a few words in to him?"
The smile on Tony Yates’s face froze.
Cecilia’s smile widened in response.
"If I wanted, what you did today could reach your brother’s ears by tomorrow. And if he gets angry and exposes all your dirty laundry, you could be ’reunited’ with him in there as soon as the day after."
As Cecilia spoke, her tone took on a threatening edge. "Once you’re inside, do you think you’ll have an easy time of it?"
"Worst-case scenario, just for what you’re doing right now—trespassing, vandalizing, trying to rob the place—do you think one phone call from me isn’t enough to get you locked up for fifteen days?"
A flash of panic crossed Tony Yates’s eyes, and his gaze involuntarily darted from side to side.
Cecilia’s threat was simply too potent. Although he didn’t know what she was capable of, he didn’t dare to call her bluff.
Because if Cecilia’s words came true, he would be going to jail, one hundred percent.
’And we’re in the middle of a major crime crackdown right now!’
A cold smile played on Cecilia’s lips. ’To deal with someone this single-minded, you have to grab them by their weak spot.’
’Just look at how arrogant he was a moment ago. The one person he fears is locked up, which is why he’s acting so brazenly, thinking no one can touch him.’
’Well, I have to make him understand that even though his brother is in jail, the aftershocks remain. If he doesn’t behave, getting him packed up and thrown in there too would take a matter of minutes.’
After a long pause, Tony Yates looked at Cecilia and nodded slowly. "Fine. You’ve got some nerve, pretty girl. This might be the first time we’ve met, but I’ll remember you."
Hearing this, Cecilia raised a hand and casually brushed a stray strand of hair from her forehead. "I’m this beautiful, it’d be hard *not* to remember me. And since you’ll remember, you can all get the hell out now!"
Cecilia’s brazen arrogance made Tony Yates’s cheek twitch involuntarily. He struggled to suppress his anger, gritting his teeth so hard they could have shattered.
"Sister-in-law, I’ll come see you another day. Let’s go!"
His goal unachieved, Tony Yates left the villa in a cloud of frustration and rage. As he brushed past Cecilia, he didn’t forget to shoot her a vicious glare.
Cecilia glanced at him sideways with disdain. Compared to his initial lecherous stare, she much preferred his current, purely unadulterated hatred.
Once they were gone, the air in the villa seemed to freshen instantly.
"Cecilia, thank you. It’s a good thing you arrived when you did." Zelda Warner gently squeezed Cecilia’s hand, her voice full of gratitude.
Cecilia’s intense aura subsided, and she shook her head gently. "I should have come earlier. Then they wouldn’t have been able to make such a mess of your and Jeb’s house."
Her gaze swept over the house again as she spoke, and she reassured Zelda, "But it’s fine. I was coming to pick you and Alex up today anyway. After you move out, I’ll have someone come fix this place up. I’ll do my best to restore it for you."
"Thank you."
Cecilia turned to Mrs. Lynn. "Mrs. Lynn, could you please help my sister-in-law pack up her daily necessities, as well as Alex’s things and your own? You’re all moving to my place today."
"Sister-in-law, see if there are any large items you want to take. Duane and the guys brought a small truck, so they can transport everything for you."
Zelda Warner nodded and began directing Duane and the others to move things.
There weren’t really any large items to take, as Cecilia’s vacant villa was fully furnished. The largest things Zelda Warner took were a few large, framed wedding photos of her and Wesley Yates that had been hanging on the wall.
After everything was packed, Cecilia settled Zelda Warner, her son, and the nanny, Mrs. Lynn, into another villa in Hearthstone Villas. It wasn’t right next door, but it was relatively close—less than a ten-minute walk away.
Cecilia first gave Zelda a quick tour of the villa. "I bought two places here back then. This one has always been empty; I’ve never spent a single night in it."
"Sister-in-law, you might not be used to it at first. It’ll take some time to adjust."
The new house’s decor was completely different from the previous villa. Cecilia’s place was a blend of modern garden and neo-Chinese styles, exuding a serene and profound aura that helped calm the mind of anyone who stayed there.
"I quite like it. Thank you, Cecilia," Zelda Warner said, thanking her yet again.
Cecilia feigned annoyance. "You’ve said ’thank you’ to me a million times today. If you keep being so formal with me, I might actually get mad, you know?"
Zelda Warner laughed at her words. "I’m not just being polite. I really do want to thank you."
At this, she bit her lip, a little embarrassed, and lowered her voice to a whisper. "You know, when I first found out that Jeb had taken on such a beautiful girl as his sworn sister, I was actually pretty jealous for a while."
Cecilia looked horrified. "Sister-in-law, you..."
"I know!" Zelda Warner said with a gentle smile. "I know the bond between you two, which is why I have to thank you even more. Cecilia, there’s still a long road ahead. I’ll be raising two children, and there are all the things your brother entrusted to you... I’ll have to rely on you to look after us."
Feeling the depth of Zelda Warner’s trust in her at that moment, Cecilia’s expression softened. She squeezed her hand back and said reassuringly, "Don’t worry, Sister-in-law. I’m here. Everything will be all right."
