Chapter 910 Capture of Naruto and Fū
“Nagato, you can’t continue doing this… please stop this madness… innocent people are suffering, those who have nothing to do with war… they are dying for no reason,” Jiraiya pleaded, attempting to persuade Nagato to halt his destructive path.
Nagato came to a halt, though he didn’t turn to face Jiraiya. He responded, “Jiraiya-sensei… isn’t this the same suffering that the other nations have inflicted upon us through their wars? Now that you are experiencing the consequences firsthand, do you wish for us to stop? Why?”
Jiraiya sighed deeply, his voice carrying the weight of his words, “Exactly… that’s the problem, Nagato. What you’re doing now is repeating the same mistakes we made in the past. This won’t bring true peace; it will only bring more war, more destruction, and more pain.”
Nagato’s tone remained indifferent, “You’re lying defeated on the ground, Jiraiya-Sensei. What right do you have to advise me?”
“I know, I understand that I’ve failed many times,” Jiraiya admitted, his voice determined. “But even so, I can’t give up. If there’s even the slightest chance to change your path, I have to do everything I can to try. Nagato, you were born with the Rinnegan for a reason. There must be a purpose behind that Dojutsu. While ‘The Child of the Prophecy’ might have lost its meaning, I still believe that you have the potential to bring peace to the Shinobi World. Please, put an end to this cycle of war and suffering.”
Nagato’s voice grew colder, “The Child of the Prophecy, huh?” He mused and continued, “If such a being ever existed, it was Yahiko. He would have fulfilled your ideals if he had lived. But sadly, Konoha shinobi killed Yahiko. The legacy he left behind was pain—a legacy that I’ve taken upon myself. I will ensure that all nations and all shinobi feel this pain until they are too terrified to wage war ever again.”
“Nagato… I… We…” Jiraiya struggled to find the right words to express himself. In the aftermath of Danzō’s defection, his actions were brought to light, including his involvement in colluding with Hanzō to eliminate the former leader of the Akatsuki Organization, Yahiko. This fact couldn’t be ignored, and the Konoha shinobi’s role in Yahiko’s death was undeniable.
“The shinobi of Konoha killed the Child of Prophecy who could have brought peace to this Shinobi World…” Nagato’s voice carried a mix of sorrow and anger.
Jiraiya’s expression mirrored his regret as he spoke, “It’s my responsibility… If only I had stayed with you…” He continued with a heavy heart, “But… Nagato, consider this… Would Yahiko truly support the path you’re on now?”
Nagato’s response was firm, “Yes…” He continued, “Your difficulty in accepting this is because it doesn’t align with the interests of the powerful nations. However, that’s not my concern. In time, you’ll realize that this path is the only way to bring peace to this cursed Shinobi World… a world that can only find peace through pain…” With those words, he turned away from Jiraiya and resumed his journey toward Naruto and Fū.Although he had noticed the change in Sasuke’s eyes, he dismissed it. A three-tomoe Sharingan didn’t hold his attention compared to his larger goal.
“Then why don’t you kill me?!” shouted Jiraiya.
“Because I want you to see with your own eyes that I was right the whole time!” answered Nagato without stopping in his tracks.
The only reason Nagato chose to decisively kill Jiraiya in the canon was that he wasn’t as strong as he is right now. He did not have the Hashirama Cells implanted in his body; therefore, he could not partake in too many battles.
Nagato knew that if Jiraiya was left alive, he would oppose him. Moreover, Jiraiya had also figured out the secret of the Six Paths of Pain. Therefore, it became necessary to kill him, but that is no longer necessary.
In this world, Nagato is strong enough to defeat everyone, and the only person worth his attention is Yama. Therefore, even if Jiraiya opposes his path, Nagato doesn’t care enough to take his life.
In Sasuke’s unwilling eyes and Jiraiya’s helpless gaze, Nagato arrived next to Naruto and Fū. He used Reverse Summoning Jutsu to take them away from Mount Myōboku.
Poof!
As Nagato disappeared along with Naruto and Fū, Sasuke finally collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath. He smashed his fist on the ground with an unwilling expression, “Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!”
He was ashamed of his weakness.
Despite being the most talented and revered trainee in Konoha, he was nothing more than an ant in front of the truly strong!
He was a failure as a shinobi and a coward!
He realized this truth when faced with death, realizing he didn’t even have the courage to interfere. He couldn’t forgive himself for being such a coward, and he couldn’t forgive himself for letting Nagato capture Naruto and Fū!
At that moment, Jiraiya spoke, “Sasuke… now is not the time to curse ourselves for our weakness. We have to find a way to bring back Naruto and Fū.”
Sasuke froze, “But… Jiraiya-sensei…”
Before Sasuke could finish, Jiraiya interrupted him and said, “Sasuke… It’s not wrong to be afraid. Being weak is not a crime either. These things are what make us human. However, we must have the guts to accept our weaknesses and then work hard to overcome them. Tell me, Sasuke, do you have the courage to accept your weakness and overcome it?”
Tears streamed down Sasuke’s eyes as he nodded, “Yes!”
Jiraiya smiled, “Good,” then continued, “Now that that’s settled, we need to find a way to rescue Naruto and Fū.”
Sasuke clenched his fists and questioned, “But how are we going to rescue them?”
Jiraiya said, “First, help me take out these black rods. Only then can we devise a plan.”
“Oh… yes, right on it!” nodded Sasuke as he ran over to Jiraiya’s side and helped him remove the Black rods that restricted his movements. It wasn’t easy; the Black Rods disrupted his Chakra as soon as he touched them. However, he managed to take them out.
“Phew… that feels better,” muttered Jiraiya as he recovered.
Meanwhile, Sasuke also removed the black rods that trapped Elder Fukasaku and Shima. With everyone freed, Sasuke returned to Jiraiya and asked, “Now, Jiraiya-sensei, how are we going to save Naruto and Fū?”
Jiraiya scratched the back of his head and answered, “This kind of thing is not something a child has to worry about or intervene in. Leave the next steps to me. I will see what I can do. Meanwhile, you will stay here.”
“What?!” taken aback, Sasuke hurriedly retorted, “No… I want to help too… if I can’t even help Naruto, then what go–?”
Chop!
Suddenly, a chop landed on the back of his neck, and Sasuke lost consciousness. “Jiraiya-sense… what are yo–?”
Looking at the unconscious Sasuke, Jiraiya apologized, “I am sorry, Sasuke. It was my negligence as a teacher that led you to such a situation. You are the only one left I can count on for redemption. I will not allow you to take such a risk.”
Then, he said a few words and requested Elder Toad Fukasaku and Shima to take care of the boy before leaving Mount Myōboku.
…
Konohagakure
At the same time, Tsunade-hime led the Sealing Squad and followed Kuroto in order to seal Satori.
“Such a thing happened at that place?” muttered Elder Hiruzen in shock.
“Yes,” nodded Jiraiya with a solemn expression. He continued, “Sensei… no matter what, we can’t leave Naruto and Fū in Nagato’s hands…!”
Elder Hiruzen nodded and, without hesitation, ordered an Anbu beside him, “Go and find Kakashi. Tell him to entrust the Uchiha matter to someone else’s hands and come here immediately.”
The Jinchuriki of Seven Tails and Nine Tails were captured simultaneously. No matter what, Elder Hiruzen could not ignore such an event. If Akatsuki were to obtain all the tailed beasts, it could mean the end of the Shinobi World. Thus, this matter is more critical than the Uchiha Coup and requires immediate attention.
Therefore, without hesitation, Elder Hiruzen summoned Kakashi, who was responsible for handling the Uchiha Clan should they leave the Uchiha district tonight, immediately.
Whoosh! With a silver flash, Kakashi arrived beside Elder Hiruzen and Jiraiya. They swiftly explained the entire situation to him. “We don’t know where Nagato has taken Naruto and Fū. Kakashi, now only you are capable of finding and rescuing them.”
“I understand,” nodded Kakashi, comprehending the severity of the situation. Even if he couldn’t save both of them, he had to ensure he brought back Naruto. To Kakashi, Naruto was not only the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails but also the son of his Sensei.
As Kakashi prepared to leave, Jiraiya instructed, “Be careful… Nagato seems to have become stronger than he was before. You will only have one chance to use the element of surprise. Do not let it go to waste!”
“Yes, I will be careful,” smiled Kakashi as he disappeared in a silver flash.
