Reborn in the Apocalypse: Rising Beyond the Ruins (unedited)
Chapter 59: Ripples in the Heart
The ground buckled as Shane’s magma wall slammed into the center platform, detonating in a geyser of white-hot liquid stone. The blast sent the First Devourer staggering sideways, its massive obsidian limbs clawing frantically at the air as the heat scorched through its black temporal tethers.
"Now!" Mei barked.
She blurred forward, a streak of shadow and cold steel. Beside her, Joshua charged with his shield locked, his boots carving deep furrows into the crystal bridge. As Aelia raised a hand to unleash a volley of white mana rings, Joshua hurled himself into the line of fire, taking the brunt of the searing light against his pristine energy barrier.
"I've got the ring system locked down!" Joshua roared over the deafening crackle of colliding energies. "Take her!"
Mei didn't waste a breath. She used Joshua’s shoulder as a launching pad, vaulting high into the cavernous air above Aelia. Down below, the memory of Ethan and Fei’s cruel, calculating smiles flashed across her mind one last time before being completely burned away by the sheer heat of Team Blaze's fierce, unyielding loyalty.
*I am done dying alone.*
Mid-air, Mei inverted her grip on Fang. Black, unstable aura spilled from the blade, matching the void humming inside the Heart of the Vault.
Aelia looked up, her unblemished face twisting into a hideous sneer of pure administrative contempt. "Corrupted thread! You dare defy the Architect's code?!"
"I *am* the code now," Mei cold-voiced.
She brought Fang down in a devastating, vertical arc. The black blade collided with Aelia's remaining mana rings, shattering them like cheap glass. The force of the strike drove Aelia down onto her knees, cracking the ancient crystal bridge beneath her feet. Crimson—real, human blood—spurted from the Administrator's lips, dripping onto her pristine white robes.
Behind them, the Devourer let out a agonized screech as Lucien shadow-stepped onto its massive head, plunging both daggers straight into its central eye socket. The creature thrashed violently, its writhing body collapsing into the chasm below, dragging its corrupted dark tethers down into the void.
Aelia clutched her bleeding chest, her golden eyes wide with frantic horror as she looked from Mei to the floating, golden core of the Heart behind them. "If you destroy me... the timelines... everything collapses..."
"Then we'll rebuild it," Mei said, her blade hovering a millimeter from Aelia's throat. "Without your script."
Elias rushed forward from the perimeter, his ledger glowing with blue glyphs as he synced his magic to the core. "Mei! The override sequence is ready! The moment you strike her down, tap Fang into the Heart!"
Mei looked back at Team Blaze—Joshua standing firm, Shane breathing heavy over his hammer, Lucien dropping silently back into position, and Elias holding the portal open.
She turned back to Aelia, her eyes ice cold.
"End of the line."
