The sound didn't travel through the air. It hit the bedrock first, vibrating straight up through their boots and into their jawbones.

The Void Gate wasn't clearing. It was collapsing inward.

Kael didn't yell. He dropped to one knee, driving a glowing violet hex array straight into the stone. Arcane glyphs flared along the cavern walls, mapping the dungeon's structural collapse in real-time. He didn't say a word. He didn't need to. Mei watched the ancient symbols ignite across his arms, reading the geometric shift in three milliseconds.

That wasn't a boss room. The Alpha was just the lock. They had just turned the key.

The floor split open down the center, spewing a wave of heat that tasted like hot copper and scorched iron. Out of the rift stepped a humanoid shape armored in dull obsidian plate. Its broadsword bled static black lightning.

A Void Warden. Grade-S.

"Single target," Mei snapped, her voice dead-cold. "High speed. Pure lethality."

In Team Shadow, Ethan would have used this moment to sacrifice a vanguard, treating his teammates like disposable assets to gauge the monster's attack pattern. But Team Blaze didn't operate on liquidation math.

Shane stepped in front of her, tower shield locked, kinetic aura humming. "Plan?"

Mei's eyes tracked the Warden's back leg. Weight back, sword low. It wasn't building a defensive guard. It was charging a blink-strike.

She threw her old assassin survival rules into the abyss. In Shadow, trusting a teammate's call meant getting a knife in the spine. Here, it meant survival.

"Shane, don't block straight on. Take it on your right shoulder, angled forty-five. Force the overcommit."

"Done," Shane grunted, locking his boots without hesitation.

Lucien Vale stepped forward beside her, the cold sheen of his twin crescent blades reflecting the dark lightning. Known across Team Blaze for his pragmatic, sharp wits, he unslung his weapons with calculated ease. In past encounters, he had already challenged Mei's deep-seated cynicism—proving to her that not every teammate came with a hidden agenda or a price tag for their loyalty.

"Lucien, light-element bind on the back foot the second it blinks," Mei ordered. "It feeds on dark mana."

Lucien's thin, razor-sharp smile flashed in the dark as golden light began to swirl around his crescent steel. "Consider it done."

"Joshua," Mei's gaze snapped to his. "It's targeting you first. Don't parry. Draw it in."

Joshua didn't blink. He trusted her judgment implicitly. "Take the throat."

Mei turned back toward the rift. Kael was still silent, but the violet runes burning along his knuckles suddenly shifted to a harsh, pulsating crimson over the Warden's left flank.

The window. Kael had found the structural flaw in its armor rotation. He didn't waste breath announcing it; he painted the target.

"Execute!" Mei barked.

The Warden vanished. Air cracked like thunder.

It materialized directly in front of Joshua, the broadsword swinging in a lethal horizontal arc. Joshua didn't pull back. He stepped straight into the strike, catching the flat of the giant blade against his hilt. Kinetic force shattered his shoulder plate, blood spraying from his lip, but he held the line, anchoring the Warden in place.

Shane charged from the flank, driving his shoulder into the Warden's guard, tilting its center of gravity by a fraction of an inch.

Lucien swept his twin crescent blades in a precise arc. Golden strands of light-element magic snapped outward, wrapping around the creature's trailing heel and anchoring it to the bedrock.

The red hex Kael planted on the Warden's left rib flared violently, marking the exact microsecond the armor plating parted.

Mei didn't think. In her past life, she walked the dark alone because relying on others meant dying. Now, she trusted the four points of the perimeter to hold.

She blurred forward, slipping inside the creature's reach. Black lightning singed her face, but her movement was fluid, lethal, exact. Guided by Kael's glowing target, she drove both daggers through the gap beneath the obsidian plate, tearing upward into the core.

The Warden froze. Black light detonated outward in a blinding flash.

When the dust settled, the Warden dissolved into ash, leaving a glowing Gate Key hovering over the crater.

Mei stood panting, steel dripping dark blood.

Shane exhaled a rough laugh, leaning on his shield. Lucien smoothly sheathed his twin crescent blades, adjusting his coat cuffs with effortless composure. Kael brushed the violet dust from his sleeves, giving her a quiet, knowing look.

Joshua stepped up beside her, holding out a hand to steady her on the crumbling stone.

Mei looked at his hand. Team Shadow had left her to perish in the dark, but Team Blaze stood shoulder-to-shoulder with her in the fire. In her past life, taking a hand meant giving up control.

She took it.

"Good hit," Joshua murmured.

Mei pulled herself upright, sheathing her blades with a crisp click.

"Let me know when the next one opens," she said, a razor-thin smile touching her lips. "We're just getting started."
