Shen Nian tightened her grip on Gu Zifan’s hand. When Gu Zifan noticed and looked up at her, Shen Nian looked down and gave him a reassuring smile.

Seeing Shen Nian’s smile and feeling the warmth of her hand holding his, Gu Zifan suddenly felt his nervousness fade away.

’It was as if he had nothing to fear as long as his big sister was with him.’

Seeing a smile return to Gu Zifan’s face, Shen Nian relaxed and led him upstairs, following Gu Yaohui and Gu Hengzhi.

Shen Nian had mentally prepared herself to face any kind of situation with Gong Shiya, but she never expected to find her already asleep.

Shen Nian looked at Gong Shiya, who was lying asleep in bed. The years of being bedridden had left her looking gaunt, but even so, there was no denying that Gong Shiya had a beautiful and elegant face.

While asleep, she showed none of the aggression Gu Hengzhi had warned her about. In fact, she looked completely gentle.

Because Gong Shiya was asleep, everyone moved much more quietly, afraid of disturbing her rare, peaceful rest.

It wasn’t until they had stepped into the adjacent sitting room that someone spoke.

"Xiao Nian, your Aunt Gu is asleep. Will that affect your treatment?"

Gu Yaohui asked Shen Nian with a hint of worry. He was, of course, much more comfortable with Gong Shiya being asleep; at least this way, he wouldn’t have to worry about any incidents.

"I trust Mr. Chu’s recommendation. And since Hengzhi trusts you, I’m certainly willing to trust you as well."

What Gu Yaohui didn’t say was that he had also felt a sense of familiarity with Shen Nian the moment he met her. He could completely understand the theory Gu Hengzhi had.

But even so, it didn’t change his positive first impression of her.

Gu Zifan, in particular, stared at Gong Shiya on the bed with his eyes wide open, as if he wanted to take this chance to get a good, long look at his mother.
