Chu Lingxiu waited until Chu Yunze and Shen Nian finished talking before she spoke.

If this had been before, the knowledge that her family was hosting a banquet for Shen Nian would have made her furious. But not anymore. Really, not anymore.

"Lingxiu, you’ve really grown up. That sets my mind at ease."

"Don’t worry, Brother, I won’t let you down!"

"Good. I believe you. Oh, right, these are some pastries Sister Zhang made. Mom asked me to bring them for you."

"Wow, that’s great! I haven’t had Sister Zhang’s pastries in so long."

Her face lit up with surprise as Chu Lingxiu took the two bags of pastries from Chu Yunze. He had originally intended to give one bag to her and one to Shen Nian, but since they were together, there was no need to hand them out separately.

"It’s a relief to see you two like this. You should head on up. I’ll come back to get you on Friday."

"Okay, goodbye, Brother Yunze."

"Goodbye, Brother."

Although Qi Yunzhi and Wang Chunhua had come down with them, they stood by quietly and didn’t interrupt while Shen Nian and Chu Lingxiu were talking to Chu Yunze.

Even so, what they had just overheard filled them with questions.

As soon as Chu Yunze left, the two of them couldn’t help but ask.

"Xiao Nian, Lingxiu, what’s going on? Why did Lingxiu’s brother come looking for Xiao Nian? And what was that you just said about a banquet?"

Chu Lingxiu and Shen Nian exchanged a smile before turning to Qi Yunzhi and Wang Chunhua.

"Well, because my big brother and Xiao Nian’s husband are best friends! Plus, my grandfather has taken Xiao Nian’s husband in as an adopted grandson. The banquet is being held for them."

It wasn’t a secret, so Chu Lingxiu and Shen Nian didn’t hide anything from their two roommates.

"I see."

Qi Yunzhi nodded. ’No wonder,’ she thought. ’I always felt there was more to Shen Nian and Chu Lingxiu’s relationship than met the eye.’

"What? Xiao Nian, you’re married?"

Wang Chunhua stared at Shen Nian, completely stunned.

Watching Wang Chunhua’s reaction, Shen Nian suddenly realized something. Chu Lingxiu knew about her relationship with Lu Cheng, and Qi Yunzhi had met Lu Cheng on the first day of school. Since Shen Nian hadn’t mentioned being married after that, it was no wonder Wang Chunhua still didn’t know.

"Yeah, I’m married."

Shen Nian smiled and gave Wang Chunhua a brief explanation. Though surprised, Wang Chunhua accepted it quickly. She was, however, still extremely curious about Shen Nian’s husband.

Back in their dorm room, Chu Lingxiu took out the pastries Chu Yunze had delivered and the four of them shared them. As they were eating, Chu Lingxiu suddenly remembered the first time she’d met Shen Nian at the Chu Family’s home, and how she had turned her nose up at the pastries Shen Nian had made.

She couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt.

"Xiao Nian, I’m sorry. I was so dismissive about the pastries you made before. Please don’t hold it against me. I really wasn’t in my right mind back then."

Seeing Chu Lingxiu’s sincere apology, Shen Nian smiled.

"Don’t worry about it. After all, I’m not the one who lost out."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Chu Lingxiu gave Shen Nian a puzzled look, not understanding what she meant.

"Because my pastries are delicious! You didn’t get to eat them that day, so weren’t you the one who lost out?"
