Because of Zhai Mingzhu’s sudden appearance, Meng Yunhan’s attitude toward the Zhao family turned one hundred and eighty degrees. The Zhao family elders could not understand what was going on, but Han Ruochen and Han Yichen understood at once. Their faces turned as dark as the bottom of a pot. Especially Han Ruochen’s. She was furious when she thought about how her mother was planning on pushing a bastard onto the head of Zhao Mingzhu.

Sure enough, her mother was really a scheming woman. It was bad enough that she had pushed the responsibility for Han Ziyan onto her father; now she wanted to do the same with Zhao Mingzhu.

She had been sharing the same pot with Meng Yunhan for two lifetimes. Would she not know what Meng Yunhan was planning?

Han Ruochen glanced at Zhao Mingzhu. The man looked honest and upright; what was more, she heard from his parents that he was going to become the company commander. There were more than sixty per cent chances that he would soon become battalion commander. A man like him deserved someone a thousand times better than Han Ziyan. How could she allow him to be scammed by Meng Yunhan?

Han Yichen also knew what was going on in the mind of his wife. He immediately glared at her and, with his eyes, warned her not to make a fuss. But how could Meng Yunhan be willing to listen to him? Her daughter was already carrying an evil spawn. That was big enough punishment for her, but if she was married off to that bastard, Meng Yunhan was worried that she would not be able to sleep.

"Ziyan, what are you doing standing there in a daze? Come here and serve uncle and aunt a cup of tea." At the thought of the battalion commander position, Meng Yunhan’s eyes lit up. She pulled Han Ziyan closer to Zhao Mingzhu in the hope that the latter would pay more attention to her. "Zhao Mingzhu, you must not have seen my youngest daughter. She is Han Ziyan, and she is working in the warehouse. You might not know this, but she earns more than thirty yuan a month."

".."

"...."

"..."

"..."

"...."

As soon as she finished speaking, aside from Han Ziyan, the rest of the people who were present could not help having the same reaction. In the imaginary speech bubbles above their heads was a row of black lines, and in their heart they had nothing but countless ellipses.

Han Ruochen was used to the shamelessness of Meng Yunhan and Han Ziyan; after all, she was armed with the experience of her past life. She was well trained to experience such a thing.

However, Han Yichen was not used to such a thing. He might be a grown-up man, but his face still turned reddish-black in colour when he heard the good things that his wife was saying. He was so embarrassed that he wished the earth would gobble him whole. It was really embarrassing. To think that his wife had been paying attention to Zhao Mingzhu from the start. In the past, he used to think that Meng Yunhan was listening to him, but it turned out that she was ignoring him!

The Zhao family felt extremely awkward. Meng Yunhan was obvious in making her stand. It was impossible that the Zhao family of three would not be able to understand her intentions after she had made them clear in such a manner.

Han Ziyan turned red in embarrassment as well. However, when she peeked at Zhao Mingzhu, she had to admit that what her mother was saying was indeed correct. As long as she could please Zhao Mingzhu, she would be able to get rid of Yang Jianming.

She picked up the teacup from the cabinet that was beside the hospital bed and handed it to Zhao Mingzhu. Batting her eyelashes at him, she said to him, "Brother Zhao, I apologise for the lack of hospitality. But since both of our fathers are patients, we don’t have much tea at the hospital. So please make do with warm water."

Meng Yunhan was quite pleased by Han Ziyan’s sensible attitude. She thought that her daughter was really thoughtful. On the other hand, the Zhao couple could not help but grimace. They clearly had nothing good to say about Han Ziyan, and seeing her act so sensibly, they only rolled their eyes at her.

"Uncle Han is quite blessed. Your children are quite filial to you." Zhao Mingzhu heard from his mother that the children of the Han family were not only polite but also filial. He glanced at the woman standing beside Han Yichen’s bed, hoping that the woman would be pleased by what he had said, but to his surprise, Han Ruochen looked like she was about to lose her temper.

Zhao Mingzhu: "...."

"Hah...haha..." Han Yichen let out a weak laugh.

Old Madam Zhao could not listen anymore. She stood up from the stool on which she was sitting and walked over to where her son was standing. She immediately pulled him behind and pushed him onto the stool before saying to him, "You have just arrived. It must be quite tiring for you. Why don’t you sit down? Don’t worry about Mom; Mom has been sitting for a while now. You can have my seat." Silly son! He was such a fool. He was usually so quick-witted when he was in army; the proudest thing for the Zhao couple was that their youngest son was in the army and was about to become the battalion commander.

Who would have thought that he would become such a fool when it came to the matter of the heart?

Afraid that Zhao Mingzhu would offend Han Ruochen by saying unnecessary things, she took a deep breath and forced a smile. She said, "Your adopted daughter’s memory is really good. She actually remembered what her sister said weeks ago. No wonder she was able to get a job at the warehouse so easily. Not many could do it."
