Chapter 493: The Sensible Daughter

Meng Yunhan had worked overtime for a few days to make up for the absence that she had taken in the past few days due to Han Ziyan’s unexpected pregnancy news. Who would have thought that just because she was busy for a few days, things would suddenly start to change in Han Yichen’s room? She looked at the young man standing beside Han Yichen’s bed, and her eyes flashed when she saw him. Without even thinking, she pulled Han Ziyan inside the ward.

"Ziyan, come inside. What are you doing standing outside?" Meng Yunhan smiled and spoke, and suddenly she no longer looked antisocial.

Han Ziyan glared at her mother subtly. This woman! She really didn’t think twice before doing anything. The two of them had discussed that Meng Yunhan was going to first tell Han Yichen about her frail health and make some excuses for Han Ziyan’s absence for the past few days, and only then would Han Ziyan come to see her adoptive father, lest he think that she was deliberately ignoring him.

Who would have thought that after seeing the young man, her mother would forget everything and drag her inside the ward? What would her father think of her now?

However, her mother had already pulled her inside, and there was nothing she could do other than smile at Han Yichen.

"Hello, auntie." Zhao Mingzhu was unaware of the dynamics of the Han family. When he saw Meng Yunhan, he deduced that she was Han Ruochen’s mother. After all, the two of them had the same eyes. However, when his mother saw how enthusiastic Zhao Mingzhou was being, she immediately reached out and tugged at his sleeves. Her son was such a fool. Despite being a soldier, he was so poor at judging people.

He should have assessed the situation first before making a move. To think he thought of flattering the wrong person.

Han Ziyan and Han Ruochen were supposed to go back home whenever Meng Yunhan came to take care of Han Yichen. But after staying at the hospital with her husband, Old Madam Zhao realised that there was something amiss about Meng Yunhan. If it were just Han Ruochen, she would have thought that it was Han Ruochen and Meng Yunhan being estranged from one another.

However, it was not just Han Ruochen. The rest of her siblings weren’t close to Meng Yunhan either. Whenever Meng Yunhan was at the ward, Han Ruochen’s elder brother and sister would avoid her. The two of them were quite polite when they were talking with them, so why were they so distant from their own mother? Old Madam Zhao had a feeling that there was something wrong with Meng Yunhan’s character.

And sure enough. She soon found out about the terrible character of Meng Yunhan; not only was the woman unreliable, but she also had a cold attitude toward her own children. Instead, she doted on her adopted daughter way too much.

Old Madam Zhao used to think that ’Parents always have their own good reasons,’ but after meeting with Meng Yunhan, she realised that a woman as impolite and unreasonable as her could never be loved by her children. The only reason she was still willing to associate with Meng Yunhan was that she was Han Ruochen’s mother. Han Ruochen had been quite polite toward her husband, so how could she show a cold attitude toward Meng Yunhan?

But in her heart, she did not like Meng Yunhan after finding out what good things she had done for her children. How could there be a mother like her? She actually borrowed money from her husband’s colleagues, and that too for her adopted daughter.

And when she found out that during Han Yichen’s first night at the hospital, Meng Yunhan had actually slapped Han Ruochen so hard that the latter started bleeding from her mouth, she understood that Han Ruochen was actually very sensible, and it was Meng Yunhan who had an unreasonable attitude toward her children.

Her man had an accident, and yet Meng Yunhan only stood behind. She cried and wailed that she had no money and was penniless. In the end, her youngest daughter had to come up with a way to pay for the surgery as well as the money that she had borrowed from others.

If not for the fact that the entire Han family was reasonable and polite, with Han Ruochen being an excellent young woman, she would have never wanted to be in-laws with someone like Meng Yunhan.

Meng Yunhan had no idea that she was being looked down on. The second she saw Zhao Mingzhu’s uniform, her eyes brightened, and her smile turned a degree higher. "Brother Zhao, your son is actually in the army!" Her tone was unprecedentedly good, but that only made Old Master Zhao and his wife pull long faces.

The two of them looked at one another and did not know what Meng Yunhan was even thinking. On usual days, she did not even bother to greet them. Her face was always black as a pot whenever they talked with Han Yichen. She even looked at them as if they owed her money. So how come the woman was acting all nice and kind toward them? She was so sweet-tongued that goosebumps were rising all over their arms.

"Yes, he is in the army." Old Master Zhao felt extremely uneasy, and he was unwilling to speak to the woman in front of him. He also hinted at his wife with his eyes to deal with Meng Yunhan, as he was unwilling to deal with her. What was up with this woman?

"Judging from the look, he seems to be doing well in the army. How old is the child?" Meng Yunhan’s eyes were very sharp. At one glance, she knew that Zhao Mingzhu’s position was not low.

Upon seeing that Meng Yunhan was eyeing Zhao Mingzhu’s uniform, Old Madam Zhao glared at her son. How tactless; why did he not announce that he was going to be a company commander? What was the need to wear his uniform to the hospital?
