It took two days for Qiao Tingyan to arrive at the fishing village. By the time he arrived at the tiny village, he was exhausted to his bones. All he wanted was to lie down and wash himself with some hot water.

"That damned Xuehan! She doesn’t even understand her own weight. It is all her fault, and yet she dares to throw a tantrum at me. Who does she think she is?" Qiao Tingyan wiped the sweat off his face and spat on the ground. In his heart, he blamed Han Xuehan for all his sufferings. If not for her, then he wouldn’t have bothered to make such a long journey. Did she really think that she was that precious?

Qiao Tingyan was rather angry. However, he knew that he couldn’t show his true face in front of others. In his village, he was used to acting honest and simple in front of others and because of this very reason, no one in the village doubted him. Even when they saw the wounds and injuries on Han Xuehan’s body, they believed that it must be due to her carelessness and not him beating her up!

As a man who was used to being flattered as an honest person, how could he slip up? He immediately put on a cheerful smile and walked toward the beach. "Hello? Do you know where Han Xuehan and her family live?" It had been more than three years since he last came to this small fishing village and had long forgotten where the Han family’s courtyard was.

Aunt Li heard his voice and straightened up with a frown. She assessed the man from the top in front of her and questioned, "Who are you?"

"Ah, Auntie, good afternoon. I am Qiao Tingyan. I am Han Xuehan’s husband." Qiao Tingyan smiled at Aunt Li politely and introduced himself.

When Aunt Li heard Qiao Tingyan’s introduction, she could not help but frown. She said, "How is that possible? If you are the Han family’s son-in-law, then you should know where they live, don’t you?" She knew that Han Xuehan was married but she had never seen Qiao Tingyan visit his in-laws. Even when it was the new year or dragon boat festival, Han Xuehan never returned to her natal home with her husband, it was as if the eldest daughter of the Han family had seized to exist the very day she was married off.

Qiao Tingyan was slightly embarrassed when he heard Aunt Li’s question. He cleared his throat and immediately said, "Auntie, our family lives too far off and we are not well off, so I cannot afford tickets for such a long journey, if not for Xuehan being childish and refusing to come back home, I wouldn’t have come looking for her."

As he spoke, he could not help but sigh helplessly. "I mean, we are husband and wife, even if there is something she is upset with, there is no need for her to throw a tantrum such as this one. She is not even a least bit understanding of my situation. I am a poor farmer and I only owe a few mus of land, with her acting up like this, I had to use more than half of my monthly savings."

This was what his mother taught him to do; he first needed to look for an elderly woman who looked like she loved gossiping and then tell her all about the sufferings that he had to go through as Han Xuehan’s husband. The more he presented himself as a helpless and honest husband, the more the villagers would help him speak up. With the villagers backing him up, was there anything he needed to worry about?

Not only could he make the people incline toward him, he could also ruin Han Xuehan’s reputation. He wanted to see how that woman would be able to stay here after gaining the reputation of a woman who did not serve her in-laws well.

"What, Xuehan did such a thing?" Aunt Li was really startled. She could not believe that the ever-silent Han Xuehan was actually a woman with such issues. She patted her chest and then said to Qiao Tingyan hurriedly, "Come with me; I will take you to her. Really, how can our village have such a woman? A good wife is supposed to take care of her husband and in-laws; how can she do such a thing? How will the girls of our village find a groom if the matter ends up being disclosed to other villages?"

Even though a reform was happening, the elderly still had the former ideals.

Thus, Aunt Li believed that Han Xuehan’s actions were simply too atrocious. She immediately brought Qiao Tingyan with her to the old Han house. Because her back was turned on Qiao Tingyan, she did not even see the smug smile that was playing on his lips.

The two of them soon arrived at the Old Han family’s house. Since she had taken the task of acting as the good samaritan, Aunt Li even went ahead and knocked on the door. "Old Han, Old Han, come out. Look who is here."

When Old Madam Han heard Aunt Li’s voice, she could not help but frown, what was going on? Why was the village’s loud mouth looking for her? Even though she had some doubts, she still threw the clams that she was washing and then walked toward the door. However, as soon as she opened the gates, she wanted to shut them on the face of Aunt Li.

This woman actually brought such a despicable person to her house!

Was she trying to ruin her mood?

When Aunt Li saw that Old Madam Han was standing like a statue, she could not help but chuckle. "Old Han, what are you doing? Your grandson-in-law is looking for you. Why don’t you invite him in?"

Old Madam Han glanced at the woman in front of her and smiled before sarcastically saying, "Old Li, since you are so worried about him, why don’t you take him to your house?"
