Mrs. Fu’s eyes were also red by this point.

After all, after spending the past year together, she had genuinely been raising these two children as her own grandchildren.

The feelings that had developed from being together day and night for a year ran very, very deep.

What’s more, they had hardly been apart for a single day over the past year.

If she wasn’t afraid of the hassle it would cause the children, she really would have just taken both of them with her.

"Grandma will be back before you know it."

Just then, Fu Mingxue came over. Seeing the heart-wrenching sight of the old woman and two children parting ways, she couldn’t help but chime in:

"What are you crying for? I’m still here, aren’t I? While she’s gone, if Mom gets off work early, I’ll come and see you."

Hearing this, Mrs. Qin immediately interjected, "Mingxue, how about this? Why don’t you just stay at our place for this period? That way you can eat a hot meal, and you won’t have to come home to a cold house."

When Mrs. Fu was here before, she was the one who kept the fire going!

With her gone, who would light it?

Of course, if her daughter-in-law wasn’t willing to stay at the Qin family home, then she would come over after dinner to light the fire for her.

It was only a ten-minute trip back and forth, anyway.

Fortunately, Fu Mingxue was quick to agree. "Okay, I’ll stay at the family home for the next few days, then. It’ll be a perfect opportunity to taste Aunt Li’s and Mom’s cooking every day."

Mrs. Qin was delighted at her words.

"Then it’s settled. Come over after you finish work today."

Fu Mingxue nodded. "Alright, but don’t wait up for me for dinner. I might not get back until late some nights."

"Okay. We’ll leave the door unlocked, you can just come right in."

Mrs. Qin was, of course, delighted to have her younger daughter-in-law staying over.

She wasn’t the only one who would be happy;

The two elders at home would probably be thrilled as well.

Oh, and the children too.

The brother-sister pair, Qin Yue and Qiaoqiao, really liked their aunt.

They’d probably go wild with joy if they knew their aunt was coming to stay.

Fu Mingxue nodded. "Alright, I understand."

"I’ll get going then. Your father has to take the two kids to school soon."

Mrs. Qin got into the car with the twins.

The tears the two children had just managed to hold back began to stream down their faces again.

It broke Mrs. Fu’s heart to see it.

Thankfully, the car drove off.

"Sigh... I really can’t bear to part with them," Mrs. Fu said, her eyes still red.

People are sentimental beings, after all.

After you’ve raised them for so long, it makes no difference whether they’re your own flesh and blood—the feeling is just the same.

Fu Mingxue spoke up, shattering the somber moment.

"Come on now, you’re acting as if you’re never coming back. Don’t you have a train to catch at nine? Have you finished packing everything?"

Mrs. Fu shot her an irritated look. "I finished packing a long time ago."

"Alright then, I’m going to eat. I won’t be able to see you off when you leave, so make sure you stick close to Qin Wenshu, and don’t get off before your stop. Also, if some people come to you acting pitiful, don’t you go getting soft-hearted."

"I only have one mom, so don’t you get into any trouble—"

"Pah! Don’t say such unlucky things! How could anything happen to me? Now, go eat your breakfast."

’What a mouth on her. She just can’t say a single nice thing.’

Fu Mingxue: ...?

’Didn’t I only say all that because I saw how upset she was, with her eyes all red?’

’Fine. I’ll just go eat breakfast!’

When she got to the dining table, there was a generous spread for breakfast laid out.

Then, something occurred to her. "Mom, did you boil eggs for your trip?"

"I did. I’ve got more than twenty of them with me, to eat on the train."

Eggs were one of those things you could eat even when they were cold,

and they’d last for three days without a problem.

What’s more, she had also steamed some buns and cooked some flatbreads the previous night.

That was more than enough to eat on the train.

In truth, if she were traveling back alone, she definitely wouldn’t have packed so much food.

But with Qin Wenshu going along, there was no way she could let him go hungry.
