Mrs. Qin had brought more than just the large jar of chicken soup that morning.

She had also brought meat-filled buns that Aunt Li had made fresh that morning.

The buns were still warm when they arrived.

After washing up, Fu Mingxue went to the dining table and sat down.

Mrs. Fu had already ladled a bowl of chicken soup for her and placed the rest of the breakfast items on the table.

Fu Mingxue looked at the large basket of meat-filled buns and took a whiff—the aroma was irresistible.

"Wow, this smells amazing. I’m starving."

Mrs. Fu chided, "You didn’t even eat dinner last night, just those dozen or so dumplings. How could you not be hungry? Go on, eat. This chicken soup isn’t greasy at all. Your mother-in-law brought these meat buns, too—they were made fresh this morning."

"Aunt Li is the best! I love her meat-filled buns." Fu Mingxue took a huge bite of a bun. ’It tastes amazing.’

The chicken soup was the same—there wasn’t a speck of oil floating on top.

The two little ones were also big fans of the meat-filled buns.

And Mrs. Fu had also made wontons today.

So the two little ones had wontons and meat-filled buns—and they ate with gusto.

After breakfast was over, Fu Mingxue finally asked, "Mom, have the photos you all took the other day been developed yet?"

Mrs. Qin immediately replied, "Qin Wenshu is handling the photos. That kid hasn’t sent them over yet, but they should be here in the next few days."

"That’s good. It’s a shame I couldn’t join you all," Fu Mingxue said, feeling a bit wistful.

’It was such a rare day off. Who would have thought someone would come looking for me?’

Mrs. Qin said, "Your work comes first. It’s not that far away, anyway. We can always go together when you have time in the future."

Fu Mingxue figured that going on a leisurely outing together probably wouldn’t be happening in the next couple of years.

"By the way, did that grandmother and grandchild from Xiangjiang find their way over here yesterday?"

Fu Mingxue nodded. "Yes. She stayed for a bit. She claimed it was about acknowledging kinship, but I don’t buy it. It is what it is."

Mrs. Qin didn’t feel it was her place to comment further on the matter.

But she knew her daughter-in-law was a sharp woman who knew what she was doing.

"You have to go to school in a bit, so I’ll be heading back."

"How is Sister-in-law doing?" Fu Mingxue asked.

Mrs. Qin sighed. "I’m not really sure. I haven’t been over in a few days."

She might not know the specifics of the situation over there, but her elder son had come to their home several times.

And not once did her elder son have a smile on his face when he came.

’It was clear his life was anything but pleasant. But this was his own choice, the life he deserved. Whatever he was going through, he had brought it on himself.’

In truth, Mrs. Qin didn’t care in the slightest whether he was doing well or not.

’But the infuriating thing was that Qin Wenze actually wanted to take the two children to live with him. Hah! His own life is a complete mess, and he wants to drag my grandson and granddaughter down to suffer with him? He can forget about it.’

Seeing that her mother-in-law didn’t want to discuss it further, Fu Mingxue dropped the subject.

After Mrs. Qin left, Fu Mingxue recalled what Old Mrs. Rong had said the day before.

"Mom, is that Old Mrs. Fu really dead?"

Mrs. Fu wasn’t sure either. "Probably."

"The Fu family won’t send people to the base to find us again, will they?"

At her daughter’s words, Mrs. Fu’s expression changed dramatically. "They’d dare to go again?"

Fu Mingxue pursed her lips. "Is there anything they *wouldn’t* dare to do?"

"And with the Rong Family going over there to investigate this time, who knows what was said."

’If the Rongs expressed a desire to claim kinship, the Fu family’s minds must be spinning with schemes.’

Fu Mingxue actually felt that the two from the Rong Family had been rather presumptuous.

’How could they go to the Fu family to investigate without her consent?’

’And they were probably investigating her, too, which made her extremely uncomfortable.’
