Reborn in the 80s and Remarrying an Officer, Let the Ungrateful Cry!
Chapter 504: Invitation
Mrs. Fu went to make some tea.
She brewed a few cups with the premium tea leaves that her daughter’s mother-in-law had brought over last time.
Then she brought them out.
"Have some tea."
"Top-grade Longjing?" Rong Jun clearly knew his stuff.
After all, some of the elders in the Rong Family loved drinking tea.
He knew a thing or two about tea appreciation.
’It seems this cousin’s family really has some nice things.’
Mrs. Fu wasn’t particularly fond of tea.
So she didn’t know the first thing about Longjing or any other varieties.
However, she still knew that the tea from her daughter’s mother-in-law had to be good.
"I made plenty. If you like it, please, have some more."
Rong Jun: ...?
’What does she mean, she made plenty?’
’Don’t tell me she just threw it all in a big pot and brewed it casually?’
’What a waste. Such an absolute waste.’
At this, Old Mrs. Rong responded with a placid, "Wonderful!"
Fu Mingxue, for her part, didn’t feel strongly about it.
However, she wasn’t drinking tea at the moment. After all, if she had any, she could forget about catching up on sleep that night.
Even though she had taken a Constitution Pill, that didn’t mean she could abuse her body and neglect her health.
When she needed to rest, she still had to rest.
The Rong grandmother and grandson chatted with Fu Mingxue for a while longer.
Old Mrs. Rong did most of the talking.
She asked with concern about Fu Mingxue’s work.
"I hear you’re attending university, which is truly impressive. This boy, Rong Jun, is nothing like you. He was never good with his studies."
Fu Mingxue’s personal information was not so easy to investigate.
Anyone who tried to investigate her would only find the superficial information that was made public.
For example, her status as a student at Beijing University.
Or the fact that she had a job at an automobile factory, meaning she was juggling both university and work.
As for anything else—nothing superfluous would ever appear in her official records.
The information provided to the Rong grandmother and grandson was even more basic—just her status as a student at Beijing University.
Rong Jun protested, dissatisfied, "Grandma, I’m impressive too, you know. I’m a business school graduate, at the very least."
Old Mrs. Rong ignored him.
She simply asked Fu Mingxue, "Mingxue, do you have any plans for after you graduate? Would you be willing to come work in Xiangjiang?"
She all but explicitly said, "Come work for the Rong Company."
Mrs. Fu: ...?
’Are they trying to lure my daughter away to Xiangjiang?’
’Absolutely not.’
Fu Mingxue hadn’t expected the old woman to be so indirect with her recruitment tactics.
"I’m sorry, but I don’t have any plans for that. My family is here, and I only plan on working here in the future. I have no intention of relocating. I quite like my life as it is now."
’Why would I give up my research to run off to Xiangjiang?’
’To build my own business empire?’
Honestly, she much preferred doing research. It gave her a profound sense of accomplishment.
Besides, the research institute needed her, and she felt an immense sense of honor being able to contribute her small part to her beloved country.
She liked money, yes, but compared to her career in scientific research, it was fine to just have enough to get by.
Besides, it wasn’t as if she thought she’d be unable to make money in the future.
If she really wanted to, there were plenty of opportunities to earn a fortune.
Old Mrs. Rong was a little disappointed.
But she knew there was no need to rush things.
There was still plenty of time, after all.
Perhaps this was how Fu Mingxue thought now, but her opinions weren’t necessarily set in stone.
Old Mrs. Rong stayed for another half hour or so before she finally, and reluctantly, took her leave.
Before she left, she said to Fu Mingxue, "Can I come over again tomorrow?"
Fu Mingxue met her expectant gaze and said directly, "I’m sorry, but I’ll be quite busy with school for the next few days, so I generally won’t be home."
It was a tactful refusal.
Of course, that was only out of respect for her age. If her grandson had asked the same thing, Fu Mingxue would have only given him a two-word answer.
A simple "No way."
