The two kids got in the car.

Mr. Qin had offered to give Fu Mingxue a ride as well.

But Fu Mingxue turned him down.

"Dad, you don’t have to. I can just ride my bike. Besides, it’s still early. I’m planning to stop by the hospital first to see my sister-in-law."

"Alright then, you’d better get going! Don’t be late for school."

With that, Mr. Qin got in the car and drove off.

Once the car was gone, Fu Mingxue got ready to leave, too.

"Should I go visit her?" Mrs. Fu asked.

Fu Mingxue shook her head. "You don’t have to."

’Gao Lan is grieving right now. She’s in no mood to see anyone.’

"Alright." In truth, Mrs. Fu also felt it would be inappropriate for her to go right now.

’Besides, she wasn’t sure what the customs were here in Beijing City.’

’Since her daughter said not to, she wouldn’t go.’

"Mom, I’m off. As for groceries, just buy a few things. I’ve already arranged for some fish and meat, but I can only bring it home this afternoon after school."

Mrs. Fu was a little surprised. "Oh, you had someone buy fish and meat? Alright, I understand. You don’t have to do that next time. I can just take the children with me—"

Fu Mingxue didn’t reply.

’After all, the fish and meat she was talking about were rewards from her system.’

’She hadn’t taken any out in a long time, and a huge pile had accumulated in her inventory. She had to find a chance to start using it.’

"Mom, I’m off!" Fu Mingxue wheeled out her bicycle and rode away.

Her first stop was the hospital.

Just as she reached the door of the hospital room, she heard crying from inside—

"Qin Wenze, I can’t have children anymore—"

Gao Lan’s eyes were swollen from crying.

She could accept the miscarriage, but she truly couldn’t accept that she might never be a mother.

’Why did it have to be this way?’

"Gao Lan, I’m sorry—"

Watching her break down in agony, Qin Wenze didn’t know how to comfort her.

’He couldn’t just say that it was okay to not have children.’

’After all, he already had two biological children, while she had none.’

’Anything he said would just sound hollow.’

Gao Lan was extremely distraught.

"Qin Wenze, what good does ’sorry’ do? I’m the one who can’t have children anymore."

Qin Wenze was speechless. After a long moment, he finally said, "Gao Lan, try not to panic. There must be a way. We can see other doctors."

"Hah! The doctors at this hospital are the best. Where else are we supposed to look?" Gao Lan was filled with bitterness.

’To think she could never have a biological child of her own.’

’What was she supposed to do now?’

’Since marrying Qin Wenze, she had been meticulously trying to please every member of the Qin family.’

’She had never even thought of being a wicked stepmother.’

’She had planned on raising those two children as if they were her own.’

’But in the end, the child she had finally managed to conceive was lost because her stepson ran into her—was it really an accident?’

’It was hard for her not to suspect him.’

’Although Qin Yue was only eight, he had always been exceptionally smart and unusually composed.’

’Perhaps ’composed’ was an unfitting word for an eight-year-old.’

’But that was exactly what Qin Yue was like—it brought a certain phrase to mind: old before his time.’

’How could a child like that be so careless?’

When Qin Wenze heard her say "the best," the name of a certain doctor suddenly popped into his head.

He immediately said, "Yes, there is someone! She’s incredible. A genius doctor who returned from abroad, truly brilliant. She saved Wenhao, and she was the one who saved Qiaoqiao last time she was in an accident, too."

"I’ll go find her and ask her to take a look at you."

"R-really?" A glimmer of hope sparked in Gao Lan’s despairing eyes.
