Just as they finished breakfast and were getting ready to leave, there was a knock on the door.

Fu Mingxue went to open it.

She was a little surprised to see it was her father-in-law.

But she quickly figured out why he was here.

"Dad! Come on in!"

"I’m here to take the two kids to school," Mr. Qin said as he stepped into the courtyard.

This was actually Mr. Qin’s second time visiting.

He had to admit, this courtyard home was really nice.

Seeing Fu Mingxue’s mother, he greeted her, "Mrs. Fu! Thank you so much for looking after the two children yesterday!"

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Fu immediately replied, "Oh, it’s no trouble at all. They’re very well-behaved. You’ve come at the perfect time, actually. The two children seem to really like it here, and the twins adore their big brother and sister. So, how about we let them stay here for a while?"

Her words took not only Mr. Qin by surprise.

Even Fu Mingxue was stunned.

’When did Mom decide this? Why didn’t she give me a heads-up?’

Mr. Qin was taken aback for a moment before he spoke. "Well, that would be too much trouble for you—"

"It’s nothing, really. It’s just a matter of cooking a little extra food. Besides, they’re so well-behaved, and they can play with Keke and Hao Hao. Plus, my kang is big enough for them at night. They seem to really enjoy sleeping on it."

Mr. Qin was dumbfounded.

’Of course they like it. We don’t have a kang at home; the two of them must find it fascinating.’

’It would be fine for the children to stay here, of course, but having one person look after four kids... that’s too much of a burden to place on Mrs. Fu.’

Just then, Fu Mingxue spoke up. "Dad, since the two of them want to stay, just let them. As for school, I pass by Qin Yue’s school on my way, so I can drop him off. Someone would just need to pick them up in the afternoon."

Hearing this, Mr. Qin couldn’t help but look at his grandson.

He saw the boy looking at him with an expectant gaze.

’Clearly, this was probably the boy’s idea in the first place.’

After a moment of thought, he said, "All right, then. It’s just... it’ll be a lot of work for Mrs. Fu."

When Qin Yue heard his grandfather agree to let him and his sister stay, his face lit up with visible delight.

Seeing this, Mr. Qin sighed deeply to himself.

"Qin Yue, while you’re staying here, you must listen to your grandmother and your aunt. And you have to help look after your little brother and sister, understand?"

Qin Yue immediately shouted back, "I know, Grandpa! I will!"

Fu Mingxue was taken aback.

’He’s just a big kid himself! Where did he get such a strong sense of responsibility?’

Mr. Qin glanced at him, then said to Fu Mingxue and her mother, "I’ll have Aunt Li pack their clothes and send them over. Also, Qin Wenze will handle dropping them off and picking them up from school every day."

’We’re already troubling my younger daughter-in-law and her mother enough as it is.’

’How could we possibly let my daughter-in-law, who’s already so busy, handle school runs for Qin Yue and his sister?’

’That’s definitely out of the question.’

Fu Mingxue nodded. "Okay!"

Mr. Qin had come to take the two children to school.

"Qin Yue, you and your sister, hurry and get in the car. Grandpa will take you to school now."

Qin Yue took his sister’s hand. After saying goodbye to Mrs. Fu and their aunt, Fu Mingxue, the two of them got in the car and left.

"Sigh, those two children..." You could say they were pitiful, but not really. After all, the Qin family was so well-off.

And they had such reasonable grandparents.

But if you said they weren’t pitiful, well, they were.

Their flighty biological mother left, and they immediately got a stepmother. They hadn’t even had time to get used to each other when one of them accidentally bumped into her and caused her to miscarry.

How were the children and their stepmother supposed to get along after that?

If the stepmother could still have children, perhaps she might have been able to gradually move past it.

But the stepmother’s body had been harmed—with that kind of emotional pain, she would surely never be able to let it go.
