No sooner had Doctor Xie left than Director Xie arrived.

He was carrying a whole bunch of things.

The moment he entered the room, he asked, "How are the kids?"

"The kids are fine. The doctor said we can go home."

Director Xie let out a sigh of relief at Fu Mingxue’s words.

"That’s good to hear! I drove here. Do you want to leave now or in a bit?"

Fu Mingxue said, "Then I’ll have to ask you to wait a moment, Director Xie. I’m going to take care of the discharge paperwork."

Director Xie nodded. "Sure, go ahead."

After Fu Mingxue left, Mrs. Fu pointed at the pile of things Director Xie had brought. "Director Xie, what is all this? You have to take these back with you—"

"This is to help the kids get their strength back. It’s nothing valuable, just a bag of milk powder and some fruit."

He had gone to the supply co-op early that morning to buy the milk powder and the fruit.

Mrs. Fu was too embarrassed to accept.

"We can’t accept this. Please, take it back—"

"Auntie, please don’t be a stranger. Besides, it’s for the kids."

It just wasn’t right to take back a gift one had already brought.

A few moments later, Fu Mingxue returned.

Mrs. Fu immediately told her about the gifts Director Xie had brought.

Fu Mingxue was far more direct than her own mother.

She didn’t tell him to take it back, simply thanking him directly. "In that case, I’ll thank you on behalf of the kids, Uncle."

Director Xie was very pleased to hear that.

Mrs. Fu: ...?

’Shouldn’t you at least put up a little protest?’

But Fu Mingxue had no time for such beating around the bush. "Let’s go home! Mom, you take one of the kids."

Both of the little ones were awake.

They both stared up at Fu Mingxue with pleading eyes. It was obvious—right now, they wanted their mommy to hold them.

Fu Mingxue met her children’s gaze. ’What else could I do?’

’Hold them, of course!’

Luckily, she was strong enough, holding one in each arm.

She wouldn’t even let Mrs. Fu reach out to take one.

The twins, in turn, wrapped their arms tightly around their mother’s neck.

"Sweethearts, loosen your grip a little!"

’Any tighter and they’d choke the life out of me.’

Fortunately, the two kids were obedient and immediately loosened their little hands a bit.

"Let’s go!"

Director Xie had actually wanted to offer to carry one, but the two children seemed too attached to Fu Mingxue.

’Qin Wenhao’s wife sure is strong.’

’To think she can carry both kids so effortlessly.’

The car was parked right at the hospital entrance.

Once they were in the car, Mrs. Fu finally got to hold one of the children.

"Fu Mingxue, I had someone take your bicycle back to your apartment."

"Okay." Fu Mingxue nodded in acknowledgment.

The car drove back to the residential compound.

People in the compound saw Fu Mingxue and her mother getting out of a car—Director Xie’s car, no less—carrying the two children.

Everyone was very curious.

Someone came right out and asked, "Mingxue’s mom, where were you two so early in the morning?"

Mrs. Fu replied, "The kids got a fever again last night, so we took them to the hospital. The doctor said they’re fine now, so we’ve just come back."

Fu Mingxue didn’t talk much with the people in the compound, mainly because she was always busy with work.

She was often working the night shift, so she hardly had the free time to socialize with them.

While her mother was talking to the neighbors, she carried her child, pushed the door open, and went inside.

Naturally, Mrs. Fu couldn’t chat with them for long either.

She was holding her granddaughter, after all.

After the two of them went inside, Director Xie drove off.

Fu Mingxue placed the child she was holding on the bed in her mother’s room.

"Mom, watch the kids. I’m going to make them some formula."

"You watch them, I’ll go," Mrs. Fu said, then walked out.
