"Did something happen to Qiaoqiao?"

Otherwise, why would Qin Wenhao have hit his brother? The thought of what that implied was more than Mrs. Qin could bear.

"What happened to Qiaoqiao?" Qin Wenze also realized the gravity of the situation.

’After all, Qin Wenhao would never have hit him unless Qiaoqiao was in serious trouble.’

"You knew all along what kind of woman she was, so why did you still let her take the child? She and that adulterer of hers are the ones who took her away."

Qin Wenhao’s voice was filled with rage. "They locked her in a basement and starved her for three or four days."

"She’s just a little girl, and they kicked her hard enough to break two of her ribs."

He couldn’t bring himself to say another word.

Hearing this, Mrs. Qin crumpled to the floor.

Mr. Qin rushed over to try and revive her.

Mrs. Qin finally came to, bursting into tears the moment she was conscious.

"Qiaoqiao, my Qiaoqiao—"

Mr. Qin remained relatively composed. "Don’t cry. They’re trying to save her in there. You’ll distract the doctors and disturb everyone else."

Hearing that she might disturb the doctors, Mrs. Qin immediately choked back her wails.

She wept silently.

The rims of Qin Wenze’s eyes turned red.

They say a man doesn’t shed tears lightly, but only because he hasn’t been hurt deeply enough.

When he heard how terribly his little girl had suffered—the tears streamed endlessly down his face.

’It was my fault.’

’I failed as a father. I didn’t fulfill my responsibilities.’

’For the past few days, I still believed that no matter how awful that woman was, she could never bring herself to harm her own daughter.’

’And yet—’

He buried his face in his hands and sobbed without a sound.

Mr. Qin was also in deep anguish.

’If everything Qin Wenhao said was true...’

’Then... Lan Qingman is a monster.’

Just then, the police arrived.

"How is she?"

Qin Wenhao said, "They’re trying to save her life in there. Have you arrested Lan Qingman and Ruan Hongfei?"

"We’ve apprehended them all. We’re interrogating Old Scar now for the whereabouts of the others. By the way, we’ve also brought the rest of the Lan family down to the station for questioning."

"Good. They deserve a thorough interrogation. That heartless monster... that was her own daughter. How could she?"

Mrs. Qin’s eyes were bloodshot, filled with pure hatred.

’She just couldn’t understand—even if Lan Qingman despised the Qin family, Qiaoqiao was her own daughter, her own flesh and blood.’

’How could a mother be so vicious?’

’If her granddaughter’s life weren’t the most important thing right now, she would have stormed over and thrashed that woman.’

Just then, the emergency room doors were pushed open.

Forgetting everything else, the Qin Family rushed forward.

"Doctor, how is my granddaughter?"

The doctor glanced at them. "The patient has two broken ribs. Those will heal well, since she’s still young. The most difficult part is the ruptured spleen. It’s bleeding, so she’ll need surgery."

Hearing this, Mrs. Qin nearly fainted again.

"Doctor, please, save Qiaoqiao. She’s so little."

"Well—" The doctor faltered, clearly at a loss. He didn’t have the skill for such a complex surgery.

At that moment, a voice cut in sharply, "I’ll perform the surgery."

Everyone immediately turned to look. A female doctor in a white coat was walking toward them, accompanied by the hospital director.

"Doctor Xie?" Qin Wenhao was both shocked and surprised. "What are you doing here?"

Doctor Xie’s expression was cool. "Why I am here is not important. What is important is that if the patient’s spleen is ruptured and she requires surgery, I can perform it."
