Chapter 1204: Chapter 916: Little Star Extra (8)

Shang Ou realized he had strayed from the topic, and quickly added, "Hey, seriously, her family conditions should be pretty decent."

You Jingyi shot him a glance, clearly annoyed. Was this something new that should still need mentioning? Just seeing that she was a girl living in an apartment on her own was proof enough. Plus, that apartment was bought by her family.

Also, she likely has relatives here. That day at the cafe, the boy near her often visits her home.

.....

The day after Wang Leqin left, Little Star received a call about the package her mom had mailed. Coincidentally, it was Thursday. She only went to pick it up after finishing her afternoon class with the kids.

She took the bus to get there and back. But the package was so big that she had to take breaks every few steps carrying it alone after getting off the bus.

No idea what her mom sent her. It was such a large box.

Little Star moved slowly for a long time, and just as she was nearing the door, the box somehow opened, and most of the contents spilled out since she didn’t handle it well.

Only then did Little Star see that inside, aside from cellophane noodles, there were various foods and seasonings, as well as a big bag of clothes that should be the autumn and winter outfits prepared by her mom.

Looking at these things, Little Star sighed helplessly. She’s told her mom many times that she already has more than enough clothes here to wear, and the mailing fees aren’t cheap either.

"Need any help?" While Little Star was bending down to pick up the items, a familiar voice came from above her.

Little Star quickly looked up and nodded; she really needed help. There was such a pile of things that she would have to make several trips back and forth otherwise.

You Jingyi ran back and forth with her twice, and finally got everything into the apartment.

Looking at all her stuff, You Jingyi remarked on her family’s thoughtfulness. It was obvious she was very cherished at home, probably a young girl who hadn’t faced hardships.

As You Jingyi watched her tidying up the items, he also wanted to help, so he lowered his head, picked up a packet, and asked, "Where should I put these? Let me help you organize."

Little Star turned her head to see and quickly said not to bother. As she was about to take it from his hand, the inadequacy of her mom’s packaging became apparent — the bag tore at an inopportune moment. The things inside spilled out in a way that instantly made both of their faces flush.

Little Star didn’t know how she managed to send You Jingyi off, nor did he know how he ended up leaving in a fluster. Both were utterly embarrassed.

"Mom, I got the package."

"As long as you received it, make what you want to eat, don’t eat out all the time," Lin Wan instructed her daughter over the phone.

"Yeah, Mom, I know. Don’t worry, I’m mostly cooking at home now. By the way, Mom, why did you send me bras, underwear, from far away when it’s not what we make?"

"We don’t, but we did some work for an underwear brand a few days ago. I thought they’d be perfect for you young girls, and they’re of good quality, so I set aside a few for you. Since I was sending you things, I included a few new designs for this year. Have you tried them on? Do they fit? You’re developing quickly; Mom doesn’t know what size you wear. There are several sizes, give away or discard the ones that don’t fit."

"...Oh, I see, Mom." Little Star didn’t mention the embarrassing incident she had just encountered. She felt that having one person know about it was already shameful enough and didn’t want another person to know.

After that incident, You Jingyi was too embarrassed to see Little Star for several days, not due to his unwillingness to meet, but fearing it would make Little Star uncomfortable.

Yet, the incident left him troubled; when Little Star’s clothes spilled out that day, those cute yet subtly sensual items fell at the top, very obvious. He could clearly see the colors and designs.

That night when he returned, he had an embarrassing dream, and the next morning his pants were wet.

He had to wake up early to wash his clothes and sheets.

The term began in a blink. Grandpa San and Grandma Li, along with Xiao Wu, returned too. This time Grandpa San and Grandma Li were staying there for over a month before leaving, leaving Xiao Wu by himself. Xiao Wu was soon to graduate from college and had no plans for further studies, so after graduation he would head back home and handle the matters in Grandpa San and Grandma Li’s care.

Grandpa San also brought quite a few things this trip. For days, Little Star ate at Grandpa San’s house; as long as they were there, Little Star rarely had to cook.

This put You Jingyi in a bind, as not being able to eat Little Star’s cooking daily made him lose his appetite, and over the course of a month, he lost quite a bit of weight.

Fortunately, Grandpa San and Grandma Li returned home, and fearing Xiao Wu would wander about carelessly, they had him stay on campus, so he rarely came back.

You Jingyi finally ate Little Star’s cooking again. Since that incident, they hadn’t seen each other for two weeks, until Little Star sought him out, due to accumulating confusions she urgently needed to tackle, as there was an assessment they must pass after this round.

"Xiao Yi, Dad and I have arrived in Z City, we’ll likely be here for a few months. You mentioned earlier to Mom that girl’s family name is Han, and her dad’s a soldier. But the team is big, many people have the surname Han. You’ve known her for so long, haven’t you found out anything more?"

Over here, Mrs. You settled down in Z City and called her son.

Since they arrived in Z City, Mr. You has been busy with his own affairs, while Mrs. You started inquiring about the family of a young girl who might become her future daughter-in-law. People say that girls should be careful when choosing their husband’s family, but the same goes for boys. Who wouldn’t want to marry a kind and filial girl?

They only have one son, so they must keep a good eye on his prospects.

"Mom, even after knowing her for so long, she’s never really mentioned her family to me. All I know is that their financial situation isn’t bad, and her mom seems to be in the clothing business; I’ve noticed all her clothes are from one brand."

"All from one brand? Have you asked her about it?"

"No, I haven’t." He was only guessing because those clothes were sent over from home.

"How do you know if you haven’t asked? Maybe the girl just likes wearing that brand."

"I don’t think so. Those clothes are all sent over by her mom from home. If there’s no connection to this, how could she always send clothes from the same brand? Besides, the shipping cost would be enough to buy them here." You Jingyi was very perceptive, and his guess was probably correct.

"This girl is quite cautious. You’ve known each other for a while now and haven’t talked about anything else?"

"Mom, she’s a girl studying abroad alone. It’s good to be cautious; it makes her less likely to be deceived."

Mrs. You heard her son’s tone and felt a bit amused. It sounded like he had started protecting the girl even before he won her over.

"You’re silly! If the girl is too cautious, doesn’t that make it harder for you to court her?"

You Jingyi silently chuckled and said nothing. He felt that Little Star was doing well, especially to be cautious with unfamiliar people, especially men, to better protect herself.

Not getting a response from her son, Mrs. You added, "Son, how is it going? You’ve known her for several months now. Does she have feelings for you? Have you confessed to her?"

"Mom, are you and Dad comfortable over there? As the weather gets colder, remember to wear more. I have something to do here, gotta go."

Mrs. You knew her son wanted to change the topic and didn’t want to discuss it. Still, she didn’t press him. With a father as a soldier, a mom involved in clothing, and a daughter studying abroad in M Country, a little inquiry can yield information.

After hanging up with her son, Mrs. You picked up her bag and drove out to meet friends.

Meanwhile, You Jingyi felt happy inside. After so much time together, he could sense that Xingxing felt differently about him. She was already building up the courage, waiting for the right time, to confess to her.

In the blink of an eye, October came. Xiao Wu had been at Little Star’s place every Sunday recently, disrupting You Jingyi’s plans. He had hoped to invite her to see a movie this Sunday.

The little plans he prepared were probably spoiled too.

Xiao Wu didn’t like the school food, so every time it was a day off, he’d come over to Little Star’s place for a meal.

He wouldn’t cook for himself at his own home either, so he didn’t bother going there and stayed at Little Star’s place instead.

You Jingyi finally waited until the lad went back to school, and he bought a necklace that had recently come out.

You Jingyi carried on explaining lessons to Little Star as usual. When they finished, and Little Star was about to cook, You Jingyi bravely stopped her.

When Little Star was suddenly pulled back, she turned her head in confusion and looked at him, "What’s wrong?"

You Jingyi was gazing at her intently, and Little Star’s heart skipped a beat, feeling like something might happen in the next second.

You Jingyi didn’t hold her hand for too long. When he got up from his seat, he let go and smiled at her, "I ordered some food from outside today; it’ll be delivered soon. Don’t cook today."

Little Star belatedly uttered an "Oh" and said, "Then... then I’ll boil some water to make you a cup of coffee."

Seeing her about to leave again, You Jingyi quickly stepped forward and pulled her back, "No need. Xingxing, I have something to say to you today."

"...Oh." Hearing this, she started feeling uneasy. She noticed something was off since You Jingyi came in.

You Jingyi cleared his throat softly and slowly took out an exquisite box from his pocket, and opened it in front of Little Star, "I accidentally saw this outside today and thought it’d suit you well. Do you like it?"

"It’s beautiful." Little Star glanced at it but didn’t accept it. She just smiled and nodded, then said, "The gift is too expensive, I can’t take it."
