Chapter 808 Qin Mei Complains to Jing Si

Xu Chunyan and Jie Anlin didn’t refute her words. Obviously, neither of them had helped call for a doctor. Xu Chunyan’s goal had been to kill both mother and child; why would she ever expose her true colors by helping to call a doctor?

"The perpetrators will die a horrible death, and those who turn a blind eye deserve to be hacked to pieces." Qin Mei looked at the two of them, her smile somewhat bloodcurdling.

Seeing that her son was about to suffer, Chen Xiuhua gave Jie Anlin a shove. "An Lin, did you really hear and see it with your own eyes and ears?"

"Mom, I..." Jie Anlin was caught between a rock and a hard place.

"Report it to the police," Qin Mei decided on the spot.

"No," Granny objected.

"Why not?" Qin Mei stared at Granny.

"Family scandals shouldn’t be aired in public," Granny repeated her previous stance.

Qin Mei sneered and looked at Mr. Xie. "Dad, what do you say?"

"Jianguo," Granny glared at him, her tone full of warning.

Mr. Xie was in a difficult position. Cold sweat broke out on his back as he hesitated.

"Report it to the police." Mrs. Xie supported reporting it.

"Daughter-in-law!" Granny scolded angrily.

Seeing that his wife also wanted to report it to the police, Mr. Xie no longer struggled. Between his wife and his old mother, he favored his wife. "Report it to the police."

"Jianguo!" Granny roared, looking at her eldest son in disappointment.

"Mom, this matter cannot be resolved privately. It must be handled strictly by the law." Mr. Xie looked serious. If he made his old mother unhappy, he could just coax her afterward. But if he made his wife unhappy and she went back to Xiangjiang in a fit of pique, what would he do? Jing Wu and Jing Qi were in Xiangjiang. If his wife took Jing Si and Qin Mei back to Xiangjiang as well, he would be completely left all alone.

Jie Anlin was scared, and Xu Chunyan panicked.

Jie Jianjun wasn’t stupid. Seeing his son beaming at Xu Chunyan earlier, he wouldn’t believe it if someone said there was nothing fishy going on between them. He didn’t understand. What was An Lin after? It was all Jianguo’s family’s business anyway; why was An Lin getting involved? Was he so bored that he had to stir up trouble?

Mr. Lin and Li Axiu had no objections. It was fine to let the police comrades investigate. It was no longer important who the main culprit was; they just wanted to get justice for their daughter and avenge their unborn grandson.

"What do you mean it must be handled strictly by the law? Jianguo, don’t try to fool me. Behind closed doors, it’s our own family’s business. We’re all one family. We can handle it however we see fit and compensate however we should. There’s no need to take it so seriously and go to court. Mr. Lin, Li Axiu, what do you think?" Granny asked Mr. Lin and Li Axiu.

Li Axiu naturally hoped to bring the main culprit to justice. Old Mrs. Jie was trying to play the peacemaker. Compensation? How could they possibly compensate them? The grandson they had been looking forward to was gone, and their daughter could no longer give birth. Their daughter and son-in-law’s marriage was already on the rocks. Without the bond of a child, they would part ways sooner or later.

"Mr. Lin, Li Axiu, I heard that there’s a quota to return to the city in the village where your son was sent to work," Granny reminded them subtly.

Li Axiu and Mr. Lin were completely subdued by Granny. They had racked their brains to get their daughter to marry into the Jie Family just to use the Jie Family’s connections to get their sent-down son back to the city. After their daughter married Jing Er, they had asked Jie Jianguo for help many times, but he had always brushed them off and never made them any promises. Today, Old Mrs. Jie made them a promise, so they naturally had to seize the opportunity. Old Mrs. Jie didn’t have the ability to get their son back to the city, but she could force Jie Jianguo to find a way.

"There’s no need to report it to the police. We won’t pursue this matter anymore," Li Axiu compromised.

"Right, we won’t pursue it," Mr. Lin also stated his position.

Hearing this, Xu Chunyan felt both relieved and resentful, her face contorting with a sinister look. It was such a pity that she couldn’t crush Qin Mei. However, it wasn’t like she gained nothing; at least she had gotten rid of the bastard in Lin Yaru’s belly.

So much for the unconditional love of parents. Qin Mei lamented the toxic mindset of favoring sons over daughters. Giving up on seeking justice for their daughter for the sake of their son—she had to admit that Granny’s move was an absolute knockout. Whether she could actually pull it off was secondary; the priority was to placate them first.

Qin Mei looked at Mrs. Xie. She was a stepmother and couldn’t make any waves. Qin Mei then looked at Mr. Xie and asked, "Dad, the child in Yaru’s belly was your biological grandson. Now that he’s gone, aren’t you, as his grandfather, going to do something for your pitiful grandson who was robbed of his chance to be born by bad people?"

Mr. Xie was speechless. This fourth daughter-in-law of his really wanted nothing more than to watch the world burn.

"This matter will be resolved privately," Granny finalized the decision.

BANG! A loud noise made everyone jump in fright.

Jie Jingchen returned from grocery shopping. He kicked the courtyard door open, his entire body exuding an icy aura that sent shivers down everyone’s spines.

As soon as Qin Mei saw Jie Jingchen, she was overjoyed. She immediately looked at him with a wronged expression and complained pitifully, "Jie Jingsi, they’re bullying me."
